  1. Quantity over quality for sure. Somehow they seem to be going through something of a revival at the moment. Pacific Daydream was well received and it was nominated for a Grammy (imo its their worst album, and I'm not just using hyperbole there). White did really well too, and the whole Internet was jizzing over that terrible Africa cover. Somehow Weezer are relevant again. Rivers must have made a deal with the devil, its the only explanation.

You can just about tell it's Rivers singing. The backing band could be anyone.

Why cover if you're not going to make it sound like you?

It's approaching 20 years since they last released something that didn't make me think "Urgh, what the hell?". Call it a day.

Exactly my thoughts. They haven't put any of their own stamp on it. It sounds like Rivers singing karaoke over the original backing tracks. The last album was fucking shite as well. I'm not hopeful for Black.

Sorry should have mentioned this, teams of 30 this year with a captain and vice captain. I'll hold the deadline for you since that's my fault.

  4. Only one person had June Whitfield, that was @ca_gere, who scores 8 points; 5 points for her age (93) plus 3 for a Unique Pick bonus. Barring any last minute tap-ins from the Grim Reaper tomorrow, this will probably be your final 2018 table.

Captain: Total score from the above is doubled for that pick

  6. I'm thinking from next year this is going to be Facebook only. Nobody really posts here any more and there's like 1 person in the game who isn't on Facebook. And updating 2 separate places is a pain in the bum. Also considering tweaking the format a bit, adding a few more bonuses, maybe make the teams bigger. Any suggestions throw them my way.

  7. Points update:

George Bush Sr dies at 94, 5 points, no further bonuses apply.

Where does chat about gigs and bands in Aberdeen actually happen now? Is there an Aberdeen Gigs Facebook group? Or is it just pages for individual gigs?

There's a couple of FB groups down here in Brizzle, but I still prefer the forum format. There's an Ab Mus-like forum too, which is as equally dead and riddled with bots.

I still post on Pie & Bovril and its still going strong. A lot of great chat on there if you hide the thousands of football threads.

"But Oliver was left in a state of shock..."

The interview in that is incredible too:

    He nearly died! NEARLY.

Imagine being the kind of person who, instead of going up and asking for more butter and jam, gets in touch with some tabloid rag to publicise his own sense of entitlement. Negative press for a little cafe for an issue that could have been sorted on the spot. Except for the price, but normally you check the menu, and if you don't like the price, you don't pay it...

The only thing missing is a photograph of the customer himself, pointing at the receipt and looking angry.

It seems like a massive overreaction. Also that's not completely beyond reason for Dublin, which is an eye-wateringly expensive city. I paid €8.50 for a pint of Heineken once, that should have made the news. Bewley's is an institution too, its been there forever, and its right on Grafton Street where everything is more expensive. More fool him.

I notice the receipt was torn up and taped back together too, presumably in disgust.

A couple of them are a bit slow going to be honest, but the whole series is well worth a read IMO.  Hah, I had to go through them twice because I had read the whole series, I thought. Then I discovered Song Of Susannah and read them all again to get that one in perspective. I suppose it's hit or miss if they appeal to you or not. I love everything Stephen King writes. Still searching vainly for a copy of The Colorado Kid.

Same, I've read almost all of his books and there are very few I didn't like but I just can't get going with The Dark Tower. I don't like reading fantasy anyway, it's a genre I mostly avoid, but especially when it's so long-winded and so dry.
