  2. No. I just turned up, handed it over to some dodgy Romanian guy with a limp, paid cash the next day. It's astounding really. Part of the agreement was that they were supposed to put it through a pre-NCT exam (the system here is different to the UK. You get the test done in a government run NCT centre as opposed to a garage, and literally all they do is test it, if anything needs fixed they give you a list to go and get it done at a garage and then you bring it back for a re-test when it's done). And then it fails on is the fucking tyres they put on. But.... I got it home and changed one of the offending tyres for the spare, which does match the other side. Off to drive back to the centre and get it re-tested. It's a pain in the arse. The two fails were for unmatching tyres, and on one of the wheels, the wheel nuts were on backwards (which was my fault). The people in the NCT test could have fixed all that in 5 minutes, instead I have to drive all the way home (illegally I might add), fuck around changing tyres in the pouring rain and then drive all the way back. Fuck them. Though the place is right next an to Ikea, so I may soften the blow by going for some meatballs.

could you not have just changed your wheel/swap your nuts in the Ikea car park rather than drive home and do it?? [/unhelpful advice]

  3. Aye, Looking at some build reports. if I use some of the mods they're suggesting and get it in a steel box I should ahve a nice wee number.

do it man! though keep it simple for the first project, something like a big muff PI is quite easy to clone. http://www.geofex.com/ has some great references if you've not found it already.

between maplin and ebay you should get all the bits you need.

Before you know it you'll be building crazy shit, currently I'm building an oscilloscope from a small CRT and shoe-horning it into my amp head. totally pointless but good fun!

  4. I'm here to help, cos I love that pic.

    8104772467_a6dab84e59.jpg

But yeah, that Gibson SG, SUNN, Orange setup is like a perfect squirting geargasm to me. However, I will never be able to afford that shit. So I'll stick to an Epiphone and a cheap Marshall head for now.

BOOM! That is mega! I like how the model T doesn't even have a top carrying handle, its so heavy your not even getting the option to carry it with one hand!

  5. awesomes!

    I'm rocking a Yamaha SG700 through a diy rig;

John Holis Omni Drive circuit housed in a Big Muff PI case > GusMan 18Thoosand head > Peavey 2x15 Bass cab

    P1070327.jpg

    P1070323.jpg

The head is a modded Marshall circuit, pre amp is mostly marshall desigin but running 100Volts hotter, tone stack was coppied from an Orange Bass amp, power section has added Master Volume and uses a 50watt "ebay special" output transformer. It actually sounds great!

  6. I've also made an ampmaker kit, got the PP18 amp, it comes with excellent instructions plus the support is great. Really good place to start out with amp building.

The first pedal I finished was this: http://www.geofex.com/PCB_layouts/Layouts/omnidrv.pdf all the parts are available from maplins, cost about £70 all in with all new parts. I didnt know how to make the curcuit board so redid the layout on perf board which made it even simpler. Its a really good pedal, I still have the layouts if anyone wants a go.

Fixing up leads and guitars is the best way to get into it though, whats the worst that can happen other than burnt fingers and dropping the iron on the guitar

  7. I have 2 Electro~Harmonix branded Eminence 12" Musical Instrument speakers both 8 ohms impedance. They've have had very little use since new, maybe 4/5 years old, I put them in a rather crap home made cab. £60 for the pair, I'll keep the cab and turn it into a rabbit hutch or something.......

  8. Peavey Combo 300 bass amp, fully working and just serviced with all the pots and jacks cleaned up. This is a 300watt 1x15" front ported bass combo, fitted with a Peavey Black Widow speaker. Bit heavy but fitted with some castors to help shift it. Tolex is a bit tatty. Made in USA.

Peavey 2x15" front ported bass cab; wired for 16ohms although can be swapped back to the original 4ohm set up. I love this cab and use it for guitar as well as bass. Replacement grill cloth and missing the Peavey badge. Some white paint on the aluminium at the front and again the tolex is a bit tatty. Fitted with castors and has metal recessed side handles for shifting. Speakers are Celestions. Made in USA.

Peavey 410 TX 4x10" & tweeter, rear ported bass cab. This is a UK made Peavey cab, has carpet finish, plastic side handles and rubber feet. Fully working.

All have been gigged. Selling as I have no longer have use for them. These are some solids pieces of gear, the amp did give me some trouble after an IC came loose in its a holder but the problem is now sorted. None of it is the prettiest but it does the job of providing loud bass when required. Great Stoner rock gear, fuck badges just rock on. Also I'd rate the service-ability of the Peavey over a similar aged solid state Ampeg I'm working on.

Open to offers on the price but say £100 for the 4x10, £70 2x15 and £120 for the combo?? Open for swaps or deals. (Looking for a set of 3 point link lower and drop arms for a 70's international or a set of A/T or mud tyres for a Toyota4x4)

Makes an awesome monilithic bass stack:

    PeavyBassstack.jpg

it looks deceptively clean in that pic, also available upright.

  9. Pet Hate: Bad advice.

Dropped my phone in coffee. So I did what everyone said to do "pop it a bowl of rice for a couple of hours". Then my sister said her friend went in the sea with her phone and when she took it home she let it charge over night and it came on in the morning.

So, this morning, after having it's couple of hours rice time and an overnight charge, it still wouldn't turn on. I go online and find this.

    Fucking fantastic.

christ, why didnt you have your coffee in a cup with a lid!!!

Also never turn your phone on when its been soaked, you really need to dry it out completly before putting power to it otherwise your likely to get a short circuit leading to phone death. leaving it sitting over a radiator over night or heating in an oven at ~30deg would do it. You have to be a bit careful with the oven though if you dont want toasted phone.

  10. Pet Hates: People who do not function in the morning, myself included, when someone says something to you you just you can only give a glaikit look or a "uuuhhh" at best. I had a prime example on the train to work this morning when some lassy on the train inadvertantly threw her phone at me while moving her coat, not only did she not even notice, she still didn't notice when i put it on the table in front of her and asked if she wanted her phone back. Maybe it was my error as I referred to a blackberry as a "phone".

She should have taken a thermos of coffee/gin with her me thinks.

    Also hating today: Punctures.

  11. My original pet hate was folk turning up at the train station with a wee thermos cup of coffee in a kooky 'so mad for coffee I can't wait 20 minute sto get to work' style and this just took a huge detour into hatred of coffee in general. I'm distancing myself after this - said beverage container is not filled with any 'franchise' coffee because there are no 'franchises' in Stanehive and the coffee shops that exist sure aren't open pre-7am. So they must have filled it at home. Let's hope it's not instant coffee and if it's ground coffee let's hope they got the mixture right, eh?

Actually, anyone who gets up that early and takes time to make fresh coffee to take to the train station is even more of a mentalist.

Wait, the whole rant, sidetracked rant and further extention of the rant all extended from an asumption that someone actually has coffee in their mug, is there any proof that said nutters actually have coffee in they're mugs? Who's to say its not tea.

  12. pet hate: Hot chocolate always fills me with disapointment, as a child I must have imagined a cup of hot chocolate would consist of a bar of chocolate melted until it could be drunk, thus everytime I have a cup of real world hot chocolate I get reminded that it is just watery chocolate flavoured powder.

When I'm in charge I'll enforce that change to hot chocolate makes world wide and carry out the most stringent of hot chocolate audits to confirm compliance.

I'll probably still just drink tea though.

  13. It could possibly be another company doing a routine check of an alarm.

yeah I suppose, its quite random timing though and its an a massively loud wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

just like that, not like the usual fire alarm that you can miss if you in the bogs or sleeping like most buildings have.
