  1. First gig i attended: InMe supported by Crack Out at The Lemon Tree 2002. Never heard either band previously but met girlfriend that night and we're still together now. Good night, I think the bands were alright as well!

Best gig i have attended: Antiproduct at The Moorings ~2007, was a spur of the moment decision to go, I'd remembered the band name from reading Kerrang mag's back in 2001 but hadn't heard the band, only that they had great live reviews. Was a awesome night, spent ages having a bleather with Clare PProduct who became my inspiration for the slow motion train crash that is my part time musical career!

Worst gig i ever attended: Guns and Roses at Download 2006, listened from the campsite and it sounded like a gash pub band!

First gig i played: With the mighty DBI playing a poor selection of instrumental Nirvana covers, a 15minute heavy metal composition with a 3 chord main riff and 2 other members of the band played some incomplete instrumental Oasis covers. The lead guitarist was drunk, the bassist was the drummer and the guy behind the drums was filling for the main drummer as that guy did't actually own a set of drums. The only cheer came at the very end when me and the drummer burst out with 3/4 of Wipeout! We were 16 and playing at a Youth event of some kind.

Best gig i ever played: Probably The Fudge awards 2011 with Glassman, the atmosphere was brilliant, I think the whole venue was in the same groove as the band, acetastic as fuck, rock and roll was alive that night! I'll keep those blurry fast forward memory's till I die.

Worst gig i ever played: I think that was a Glassman gig at Drummonds, I'd gotten a bit of a kick up the arse for my poor performace and this was the first gig afterwards, I was so nervous about fucking up I fucked up all over the shop! couldn't wait to get off stage, it wasn't the fear of fucking up infront of any audience, that I can handle, it was the fear of fucking up infront of the two other dudes in the band that was shitting me up. was no fun at all. Or the worst moment would be my Pulled Apart by Horses Speel while supporting Prelude to the Hunt..... utter bellend moment

  2. Shell refusing to say how much is leaking, twitter reports suggest they've known about this since wednesday:

BBC News - Shell fights spill near North Sea oil platform

This link says there was 10 leaks in 2009/10 one of which was described as significant. Why wasn't that reported at the time? Why do they only have to declare leaks if they're in the mood to do so? Surely it should be mandatory to declare leaks.

Shell Fighting Oil Spill At North Sea Platform - FoxBusiness.com

All oil leaks over a certain size (cant remember the volumes but its not much) in the north sea are reportable to the govenment, untill a certain Gulf of Mexico incident the media wouldn't have bothered reporting them so most people would not hear of them. If you contact DECC you can probably get the stats.

  3. BT being baffling, scabby cunts. Been paying a month by month bill since December when I moved in to this flat. Just got a bill through today for 200, because they've decided to charge me for my line rental and internet package covering me from August until January next year. Thanks guys, because I can afford that, can't I? The Indian woman in the billing dept doesn't seem to understand what "What the fuck is this? I'm not paying a bill for THE FUTURE!!!" means, and are refusing to issue me a bill that I would normally pay.

The fuck's going on? Does everyone have to pay for 6 months in advance now? or is it just me?

BT are just the worst. Takes an age to get through to an actual human being because everything is automated. When I do get through, they claim it's always been this way, and that I must be going mental.

What a cluster of shithouses. Time to start looking into a new phone provider who aren't mentally unstable liars. Fuck off.

Get one of these switch companies to set up a supplier swap for you, BT will then give you some offers to stay with them. I just swapped my electricity supplier as i was offered a better deal and then swapped back to the original company after they offered another better deal. If you could be arsed you could probably keep it up for ages untill they are paying you for their electricity!

I cant remember the name if the company that did the swap for me though, compare-switch-4-lolz.com/meerkats maybe

  4. Denis Marshall? I hear he does a mean flymo mod as well

if you still have enough length of flex from the plug to the severed end you could just clean up the severed end and rewire it. All you'd need is a knife, philips screwdriver and a small flat screwdriver at most. You've already fucked you mower so there's not much to loose if you fuck it further! just make sure you wire the correct wires in the correct positions, maybe take a photo before you remove the old wire. There is only three wires to connect up on the mains cable plus there will be a cable grip as well, thats pretty important if you dont want to have some live wires falling out of you mower when you drunkenly pull it past the end of its now shorter flex.

  5. Looking for a vocalist who can sing. Male or Female. Age range of band is >25.

This is a new project currently with guitarist and bassist confirmed and a drummer potentially lined up once the rohypnol has worn off.

We are looking to work a classic 70/80s metal vibe into modern beats but there will probably be a bit of a punk element in there also. The sound isnt defined yet and the vocals will be key to the band but hooky choruses and big beats will be the order of the day.

Confidence, own teeth, ability, some lyric writing skill and a bit of gigging experience required in that order. Spandex trousers would also be a bonus but not required. We are looking to getting a set together and start gigging.

Ad is a bit vague as we have a broad range of influences and have not got our own sound worked out yet. If youre looking for an new project and can do some good vocals get in touch via the PM and well see what we can work out.

  6. I had my bike stolen from the College Street Car park on Tuesday. I was speaking to the Security guys there yesterday and they told me the place has become a bit of a target recently, about 4 bikes in a single month have been stolen. Just thought I'd give a heads up to anyone here as there is absolutely no warnings or anything in the car park itself.

My bike lock (a combination curly cable type) was cut with bolt crops and the bike gone within 60seconds of the guys entering the car park. Make sure you have some solid security and a shite bike if you are leaving it in that car park!!

  7. I'm looking to join/form a rock band to write and play original songs. I love playing gigs and want a band that can really put on a great show.

Style wise something old school rock like with big rhythms and mega choruses. I like a lot of heavy rock like Queens of the stone age, Kyuss, Orange Goblin but also the classic rock stuff like Hawkwind, Zeppilin and Sabbath. Also a bit of a Kasabian and PJ Harvey fan to bring a lighter edge to the influences. Anything blues based rock like really.

Unfortunately I'm not a great songwriter so would like to hook up with someone who can help out with that slightly important part! I get heaps of ideas but stuggle getting them on the frets. I play to perform, I just want to put on the best live show possible without a mega stage prop budget!!

Bass wise I've about 5 years playing experience but played guitar for several years previous to that. I also do a bit of backing vocals though I've only been singing for 8months, currently attending lessons.

I have own gear and transport (I've a large car squeezed the previous band and equipment in the back!) Experienced in gigging in Aberdeen and a couple of out of town shows.

This would be a purely "for fun" project, no aspiration other than being the best live band possible and playing gigs when we can and where we want.

Send me a PM if your interested!

  8. If they signed for it, and the courier company wasn't being a dick, then it's downright theft. It was only a 2 bedroom flat. I package for someone isn't going to go unnoticed. Wasn't as if it was student halls or something where there's going to be loads of people in the flat. Upon opening the package they would have noticed a cheese board. Now, unless they had recently ordered one, which I doubt, they should've been on to the company that sent it or the landlord.

Downright cunts. And the leasing agent was a cow as well. She probably never bothered her arse to actually ask them.

But it's worrying as I might still have mail going there as Saas never did get back to me about change of address. Cunts aswell right there.

Ah so thats where the cheese board came from..............

it does sound like you have been royally buggered about and someone out there is cutting some cheese or your board!

  9. I understand that. But, when asked about it they just deny it, which meant they stole it.

they probably don't remember signing for it as they obviously weren't paying attention when they were signing for it, otherwise they wouldn't have signed for it in the first place.

signed for it, did i say that alreay?

you parcel is probably sitting in a under a pile of coats/shoes in their lobby!

  10. Great Universal fucked up and somehow didn't take the new address I'd given them. An xmas gift went to an old address and was signed for. SIGNED FOR?! So we got hold of the old landlord and he said the new tennants said they didn't sign nuffink. Had to send away proof of signature (provisional) so they could compare to what was used to sign. What kind of arsehole signs for something that isn't theirs and then keeps it? I can understand being sleepy eyed and just signing for something without thinking, maybe they didn't hear the name. But then when questioned they denied it? SHITE.

Either that or the courier played silly buggers.

this actually happened to my girlfriend. But some of you seem funny around the mention of women

just to stick up for the fuckwits that sign anything, if you're sharing address with a people who get a lot of deliveries its all to easy to just sign for some shit that a courier is dropping off at your address! :finger:

  11. Can anyone explain to me just what exactly is going on inside a guitar amp in laymans terms? To me building an amp from scratch means designing it first on pen and paper, not buying a kit (thats like doing a jigsaw puzzle of van gogh and calling yourself a painter)

I know what basic components do (resistors/capacitors/transformers) not entirely sure on what valves are doing, can I relate any of it to transistors? I mean, I know how pretty much how valves work...I just have trouble visualising just what exactly is happening inside an amp....I have only spent the last 15 years trying to understand, but nothing Ive read/seen/heard helps me...

One of the advantages of the Amp Maker kits is, with the basic ones anyway, you get instructions that explain what each section is doing. Plus with Amp Maker you have Barry Amp Maker to call for support when it all goes up in smoke. I originally wanted to just copy a schematic like Runcie but thought at the time I didn't have the faultfinding skills to get it going if it didn't work first time. The kits are a great way to learn.

Since maing my first kit I have now designed a modified circuit baised on my kit, I'm upgrading components and adding circuits I have borrowed from other amp designs. it might not work but its the experimentation that is the fun part! If it does I'll have a 18Watt Orange-Sound-Marshall-City - a parallel pre-amped, master volume, 18watt AB power amp voiced for bass.

  12. I built the ampmaker PP-36 earlier in the year. I really should have bought a much smaller one as it's way too loud - even on the 18 watt setting. It has no master volume so it's difficult to get any form of overdrive without silly volumes. The amp itself is really good. I'm pleased with the results, I just think I should have gone with a lower powered one. I'll probably buy another kit at some point in the future, most likely the 4 or 5 watt model.

    Pete

How's the 36watt amp in a band situation? I tried my 18watt job veses an 50watt orange and a 3000kJ drummer and couldn't shift any air at all!!

  13. The Queen Elizabeth bridge leading on to the Wellington roundabout.

Why is it every single driver stays in the left hand lane to then go to the third and final exit?

If you do take the roundabout as per the highway code and use the right land, the other drivers go mental as if you were in the wrong!

I really don't follow why an entire city can be totally brainwashed to do it wrong.

wellington road is brilliant for this kind of thing, like at 16:00 everyone queues up past the second set of lights from the bottom to miss the bus lane leaving the left hand lane empty for CUNTS (like me) to drive right up to the lights and then merge in at the bus lane.

but then you do get people who move into the right hand lane at the airport roundabout because they are taking the third exit at haudagen o_O
