  1. ive given up building guitars for a long time now. i need to get my own gear sorted before building any. but thanks for the suggesttion

Aye but its more the explanation of how an instrument is set up and the sections on bridge installation that would be of benifit to you.  I've never built a guitar myself but I refer to this book all the time when I think of modifications and the like.  Honestly it would save you making a ton of posts!

  2. Well that is understandable since we are the same... OH NO

Nah that couldn't be possible, posts by yourself show a kind of obsessive behaviour that requires a certain level of continued commitment and self motivation.  Post by YoungA on the other hand appear to be written by someone who probably would lose concentration on the subject matter before they had finished writing their post.

  3. For me I think the very best guitar I've played was a Tokia Les Paul that I once played for in R&B.  Was an awesome feeling instrument, the action was perfect, probably being set at that magic point of as low as it could go without fret buzz.  The neck felt great with enough depth to feel really comfortable but not too wide a fret board and the finish on the back of the neck felt super silky smooth.  Being a new guitar the finish was immaculate and the pickups sounded great.

Since then I've played guitars that have been as good in a number of aspects but not had the overall combination of awesome.

  4. If a pedestrian walking while looking at their phone ambled across the mouth of a junction without taking due care to notice the car turning right without signalling, being driven by a person also using their phone would the ab-music board be able to withstand the barrage of Pet hates posts or would the internet simply end?

  5. Check you haven't accidentally snapped a wire while you had the pedal apart.  When I screw up modifications I double check my work and then treat the pedal as if I'm working on it for the first time. i.e. check the basics; do the input and output jacks connect to the right places, does the power supply still work, are all the earth wires connected etc.  You probably find something obvious!

  6. I'm keen to give a beginner-build a try. For those who have a bit of experience, how difficult would you rate this one from looking at the circuit/instructions:

    http://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/Crusher_-_Analog_Bit_Crusher/p847124_9120292.aspx

(and here's a link to the instructions PDF) http://pedalparts.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Crusher.pdf

It doesn't look like there's much to the circuit, but it's the wiring instructions that seem quite vague for a complete novice. I wish they were more like the BYOC instructions, as they seem totally idiot proof, colour coded, the lot, but BYOC seem quite expensive, and they don't really have anything I'd want to build. I'm pretty set on either a Bit Crusher or a Harmonic Percolator. Both seem to be touted as easy builds.

Just looking at the picture of the board the components look very close together so would require some steady soldering.  Getting all the bits and the use of IC sockets on the board would take alot of pain from the build though.

  7.

At night they don't have anyone on tills and it's only the self service check outs but they have an assistant who is miserable because the till she used to use during the day is now a self service till. She was miserable before they moved her to nights she is lucky to be in a job I would of let her go.

I was in the Torry Tesco's just after opening times once and there was one older female retail assistant on a sinlge till and the 4 self service check outs were open.  Everyone was just piling through the self service checkouts and she was left doing nothing, as I went through self service (keeping a low profile by following the trend in retail habits, natch, don't want to alert the drones to my presence) the auld wifie started having a rant at the supervisor about how there was no point in her being there and she should just have stayed in bed or be payed off.  Oh how I quietly chucked to myself as I continued on my way to another futile days dull and pointless toil.  That was the highlight of the week commencing 25th Feb 2013.

  8. I actually looked the amp up to see if it'd be useful for parts, the pic's and prices were useful for me, thought they could be for others.

The first link has a pic of the front panel slightly removed, I've had experience of those white plastic plugs that you can see in the image having come lose, I'd highly recommend taking it to a tech just to give it the once over and check those plugs are seated correctly.  Could be as simple an issue as that.

  9. This type of gender stereotyping runs though all kinds of things.  My missis is really into Equine sports, which at the local level is pretty much all done by women but at the higher levels its more of a 50/50 split if not more biased towards the male competitors.  For me I find it highly boring attending events when its all full of horsey wifies talking about horses and bitching and moaning about all the he said/she said bullshit.  The events themselves can be quite boring as it just full of noobs trying to pull off stuff that's above their ability.

I'd rather be at a local gig talking about guitars and bitching and moaning about local bands while some dodgy band blasts out some bad song that sounds a bit like something I like but not done quite so well, while they stand perfectly still onstage.

I used these bad boys to sort the neck on my bass after it received a body slam on to the lemon tree stage.  It broke in the same way, the neck screws just ripped the threads out.  I tried a repair first by filling the holes with strips if wood, gluing that in then redrilled the holes but it wasn't solid.  You could feel the neck more by a fraction of a mm if you moved the bass.  Maybe I never used solid enough wood as Neephied's pointed out matches are too soft.

These have totally fixed the problem though and were reasonably easy to fix, even for me with my measure once and cut twice work methods.  Just follow the instructions to the letter and you can't go wrong.

Also also, just remembered I did also need new screws for the original repair as the ones closest to the neck had bent.  Worth checking all the screws are ok.

  11. Does anyone else get annoyed with aberdeen music posts like " All my gear are for sale/I'm giving up on music/i fucking love this guitar/now looking to start a band"?  I'm sure some of us can relate to your feelings but you don't need to post your every thought for the world to see.

  12. thanks thats a lot to take in, i believe it does have a headphones input but i only have earphones and i dont have an adapter and i cant borrow my neighbours one as hes on holiday i guess it calls for a visit to colour box :( i mainly suspect dirty parts mainly the inputs or it could be dodgy connectors in the inputs?

with the electrical side its a joke it just turns out ive made careless mistakes with my kit like pluggings things into things that cant handle that kind of power and could blow up and electrocute me, my only main problem with electrocution was with my vox vt40 which i had ages ago when i kept getting electrocuted by the plug

ive got an output but what do i do with that? also explain the bit about the line level. how do i connect to another amp, i did it with my old fender amp and my carlsbro but witht he vox its different  cant remember which part goes to what. ill go much about with dials and that and tell you what happens

You can get an adaptor jack for the different sized headphone jacks while your in Maplins picking up contact cleaner.

If you're not sure on line level signals and the function of the other outputs I'd recommend you don't plug anything into it and seek further info on the amp.

  14. Best IT "issue" I had to deal with at work:  an engineer hauls me to their desk saying their computer has died and just wont turn on at all, crying "its just ridiculous/I've wasted so much time today" etc etc. A quick glance at the desk and I see both monitors are turned off, a press of the on button on the front of the screen and bingo the "dead" system is alive..... 15. Also, older people who have no clue about technology buying iPhones that they can't figure out how to use. Specifically, being the cunt that has to try and talk them through setting it up when they get it out of the box and realise they have no clue how it works.

This is my all time pet hate!  I get asked all the time to help solve various computer woes at work (although kinda part of my job description so can't complain too much) and at home.  Folks buying software off ebay that's not compatible with they're hardware or OS is a real pain as I always have to listen to the "they miss sold me this/why does it not say that on the ad" etc shite when a skim read of the original ad shows that it clearly states that the software is only windows 95 compatible and comes with a 100 point ribbon interface that only a ferranti unit has.  Finding PC's failing because updates haven't ever been installed or every single spam toolbar ever created has been installed because "I don't know what that means" is another highlight.

Also also my interest in computers ended in 2004, I'm a total tard when it comes to apple software but I can still figure our you're Ipad doesn't work because you've always been opening a new web browser window without ever closing the old one since the thing was purchased!
