Android devices, and their knack of prompting me that EVERY APP ON YOUR DEVICE NEEDS TO BE UPDATED ALL AT THE SAME TIME, SO I WILL DO THAT FOR YOU NOW, ONE BY ONE, AND YOUR DEVICE WILL BE TOTALLY UNUSABLE UNTIL I AM FINISHED like, once weekly. Pretty much everytime I turn my tablet on, everything needs to update immediately, and it just grinds to a laggy halt until every app has been done.

At least my iPhone asks me if I want to update, and I can just delay it forever.

This is slightly related to a pet hate of mine; Turning up to someone's house and within the same sentence as "Hi, how are you" getting "could you have a look at my ipad/phone/computer/laptop/internet, it's not working".  Normally its due to all genuine updates being ignored but instead installing every search toolbar available and letting every spam advert site setting itself as your homepage...

Does "wooly" mean lacking in definition, devoid of any top end and gets utterly lost in the mix when the rest of the band are playing?  If so then no, it doesn't sound like that.  Quite unusual in feel because it's super light (not a surprise considering it's full of air) but with a big, round body.  No contouring on the edges takes a bit of getting used to as well.  But it doesn't take long to get used to the ergonomics - the lightness is a big bonus for long gigs (or when you're playing two gigs in one night with bruised ribs).  Also get to have bass feedback fun with it if you want - go near the amp with it ;)

Interesting, thanks!  Your description of "wooly" sums up what I would be worried about, I guess the pickup placement helps avoid that.  I was imagining it sounding like tho SG basses with the huge pickup right at the bottom of the neck.

I sold a gold top Epiphone Jack Casady sig a couple of years ago.  That was a mistake.  Nearly went for one of the limited edition white ones, then Epiphone dropped this even nicer limited edition.  Too sparkly to ignore, so I snagged one.

That does look smart, how is it to play?  I imagine it could be quite "wooly" sounding, possibly better described as a more "vintage" bass tone.

Would have been great if you and the other buyer turned up at the same time, and mutually realised he was playing you off against each other. You could have joined forces and rushed him.

Then a twofer through his letterbox.

Could have gotten messy, there was a lot of money on the table and some pretty hot goods.  It's not often you get a chance to get your hands on a rabbit hutch for thirty pounds.

At least you know where he lives now, for the inevitable shitting through the letter box.

I just don't get the logic, he had 2 choices; send a wee text "it's sold" or get in the car and leave the house for a few hours, switch off the phone and hope that I'm not there when he gets back.

  6. Jumping on the "getting fucked about with online sales" bandwagon, I got hit with a classic at the weekend.  I turned up on Saturday to collect an item I'd found on Gumtree, I'd texted the seller 30mins previous saying I was on my way as they stated "anytime this afternoon is fine" an hour earlier.  When I found the address no one was in and seller's phone went straight to voice mail.  I checked with some locals and found out that the item I was buying was collected earlier that day and the seller had gone out about 30mins ago...... what a bellend!

  7. Depending on the source of the hum a noise gate may not be effective.  If the hum is introduced post noise gate you'll still have the same problem.

Could be something as simple as interference from lights, fluorescent type lamps will often cause a buzz.  Try turning off all the other electrical items in the room and see if anything has an effect.  Bonus points if you wear a tin foil hat at the same time....

  9. Pet hate: It's been said many times before but Aberdeen's unpredictable traffic nightmares.  Today while travelling out of town I go stuck in traffic with 4 brand new snow plows, 3 truck loads of wind turbine parts, another 2 trucks of wind turbine parts with police closing down a roundabout for them and 1 JCB digger on a single carriage way section of road.....

I give myself 20mins spare over the normal commute time to make it home to collect my kid from school, today I was just on time!  Average speed for the commute works out at 23mph on mostly dual carriage way roads.  Ridiculous!  angryface

  10. 2 absolute must haves in your journey to achieving the ultomato GUITAR TONE.

A Squire SP-10 Practice amp, working ok, pots are a little scratchy but sounds as "great" as these baby's did when they left the factory.  Looks pretty clean also.  Been unused since forever, not sure of the age.

Also a Marshall Micro amp MS-2 as below:

    P1080128_zps34fc8ace.jpg

Pure treble tastic transistor tone, with shedloads of nasty fuzz.

First to collect can have them for nothing.  PM for directions.

  11. OK, my mum has found another couple of vintage reel to reels.

    The zither is still there.

    As is the synth gear.

Getting a bit tired of folk saying they want stuff and then going out radar. It's free stuff for fuck sake!

So if you are interested in anything pm me and be prepared to collect this week, otherwise it's going in the bin.

Hi, I'd be interested in a Reel to reel if there is one still available?

  12. I love a Les Paul, me.

Not so keen on the most recent ones (the oversized bodied ones) - look bloated and rather badly proportioned.  I love the small body, gigantic long neck aesthetics of the previous model.

Oh wait, we're talking about guitars.  I'll get me coat.

I always though the Les Paul basses with smaller bodies looked really weird, like a guitar with a bass neck glued on.  In fender context would be like a regular Tele guitar with a P-bass neck bolted on.  I think in my head I always figured they would have bigger bodies, hence Gibson increasing the body size, cos I telt them.

  13. yeh it is cheers just needed to know what it does is it useful? I've got a planet waves one but I might be fancy and buy a temperature controlled one as the temperature in my house is more rapid than Taylor swifts blokes

I think a humidifier might be useful if you live in California and are keeping a collection of old guitars.  You can keep the humitidy at a level to prevent the wood in your guitars from drying out to such an extent that splits a cracks form.  Here in the North East of Scotland you can achieve the same effect by opening a window.  Most North East homes would be more likely to suffer from excess humidity due to our damp climate and poor venting.

  14. For certain instruments, e.g. the saxophone, musicians don't play the note written on the score. Instead it's a fingering instruction (snigger).  So for a Bb clarinet when they see a C natural written on sheet music they actually play a Bb.  Just to be awkward.

Here was me thinking that if you learnt to read sheet music that it was a common language between instruments, but no, the brass section screws it up.

Is guitar not different to other instruments as well when it comes to notes and placement on the score?  For example the middle C on a piece written for piano would have the note in the middle of the score where as for guitar the same middle C would be written in the line above.
