  1. The new album is ace and Younghusband have released two singles through our label so obviously they're extremely good! I would be at this gig in a flash if I were around
  2. Hmm...I thought that too. Sky News really needs to sort itself out. He's the first person to die of Anthrax in 100 years, the fact he's a drummer shouldn't be mentioned in the headline. All it does is causes this kind of confusion.
  3. Review of the show - please ignore the one I started in the feedback forum Culturedeluxe - Live Review - Drever, McCusker & Woomble / Boo Hewerdine with Heidi Talbot - Aberdeen Lemon Tree, 4th February 2009
  4. Correct on both accounts - I'll put this in the gig thread and, yup, I've since heard that imp aren't doing the Phantom Band after all.
  5. Here's my review of that wee extravaganza last Wednesday at the Lemon Tree. Culturedeluxe - Live Review - Drever, McCusker & Woomble / Boo Hewerdine with Heidi Talbot - Aberdeen Lemon Tree, 4th February 2009
  6. I might be along to this. Alex from the band sent me their new single last week and it's rather good - a big improvement on Trauma Town anyway. Also keen to see Headlight again
  7. Oh, now that was special. Really, really enjoyed it...well, apart from those who started ignorantly chattering whenever Roddy Woomble left the stage
  8. You see, that's back in the day when the NME / Radio 1 stage at major festivals would have the likes of Stereolab and The Fall and not utter tripe like The Courteeners, The Automatic or Jamie T. It's supposed to be an alternative to the main stage but it's very difficult to tell them apart now.
  9. T in the Park 95 - the Saturday only though cos Sunday was appalling. One of the hottest days of the year and I bought a Menswe@r t-shirt (oh dear) which I almost lost at the front of The Prodigy. I had to miss Supergrass cos the tent was full - but watched Therapy? instead - great swap!
  10. I went in 2007 and absolutely loved it - then last year's bill was largely a shocker so I didn't go. Not sure if the ticket sales last year were poor or not but I think that may be equally a factor rather than 'the credit crunch'. I mean, how can you bring the likes of Big Star, The Only Ones, The Fire Engines, Echo and the Bunnymen in a decent fucking slot for a change etc and replace them with The Levellers the following year? A real shame as it was a great festival. I can see a lot of the satellite fests shutting this year though - as much a reflection on the demise of 'indie' in the popular consciousness as anything.
  11. Carter USM and These Animal Men at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh in November 1994. I had an AAA pass too!
  12. Wow, this was a surprise this morning! I can't wait! Indie legends Super Furry Animals surprised many today by announcing they`ll release a brand new album this Spring. Their as-yet-untitled (one day a band will release an album called `As-yet-untitled` you know!) ninth studio album will be released digitally on 16th March through the band`s website and physically by Rough Trade on April 13th. The band say: "Musically it`s based around riffs and grooves we`ve been playing around with over the last few years. We have enough now for a whole album so even though it`s still very melodic we thought we could leave off the acoustic ballads for the time being." 13. I've had Chelsea Girl in my head for the past forty minutes...
  14. Verve were at their best at this time - yet strangely still incredibly average. I was still a 15 year old stuck in Elgin at this point. If I'd been a little older I'd almost certainly have been there though.
  15. While we're on the subject, who's this Katy Perry?
  16. I think Biz should have his own weekly column somewhere. Anyway, I haven't been back to this thread for a while. For Myspace read 'social networking site' , it's just that myspace is almost the "industry standard" - and, you can argue against that as much as you like Milner, it's the truth. That doesn't mean you can't use one of the others. My point was at least have one...if not all of them. Obviously it shouldn't be the full extent of your promotion just an addition to everything else you're doing - flyers, posters, renting one of those cars with a loudspeaker, sandwich boards, skywriting or getting Alex Salmond to talk relentlessly about your shite CD (the last one only applies to Sandi Thom).
  17. Now, here's some excellent news! In some fantastic news for those of us who live many miles from Hadrian`s Wall, legendary dance duo Orbital have been added as headliners to Rock Ness for their first live show since calling it a day in 2004. The Hartnoll brothers had already confirmed an appearance at The Big Chill this August, but this new show offers fans the chance to check them out two months earlier on the shores of Loch Ness in Inverness-shire when they play the main stage on Saturday 13th June as they celebrate an amazing twenty years in dance. Story continues... Culturedeluxe - News - Orbital Set to Headline Rock Ness
  18. Folks, we recently ran interviews with the two finallists. Culturedeluxe - Feature - Mobile Act Unsigned - The Winners Interview Culturedeluxe - Feature - Mobile Act Unsigned ? the indie X-Factor or something more substantial?
  19. Hey folks, there's a wee preview of this show on Culturedeluxe Culturedeluxe - News - Preview : Drever, McCusker and Woomble Get 'Interesting'
  20. One of the more interesting tours of the moment with three upcoming bands in a co-headliner tour. This was part of the Dirty Hearts Club last Thursday. Review here - Culturedeluxe - Live Review - Threatmantics / Video Nasties / Swanton Bombs - Snafu, Aberdeen, 22nd January 2009
  21. I think that's harsh - this is for best live act. Iron Maiden are easily worthy of a nomination there. They consistently sell out huge tours. This award has nothing to do with the charts, radio play or anything.
  22. RF Scott has just said what I was going to say. It's free, it lets you get your music heard. If you don't use it then why the hell not? Of course it's not all new bands - but I haven't been to myspace for any reason other than to hear a band for nearly three years. Facebook, now that's different.
  23. They've a great chance as I think Best Live is voted for by the public - loads of Maiden fans out there! What amazes me is that the fucking awful Scouting for Girls are up against them!
  24. Go on then. Why? If you're a gigging band and you can't even be arsed to create a MySpace (or get someone to do one for you) then you can't possibly complain about not being able to get exposure.
  25. Well, as the maker of the Jimmy vs 50 mix I'll let you know the one site you need to know about. http://www.gybo5.com/ It's still run by McSleazy the Glasgow DJ and it's the web's best bootleg / mash-up community. If you're looking for a specific acapella / instrumental and it exists then somebody on there will probably sort you out if you ask nicely. It's 'not as good as it used to be' (which the original members from the days of 'Stroke of Genius' et al are always saying) but there's still loads of mixes going up every day.
