  1. Richie

    Your current read?

Still picking my way through Bill Drummond's '17'. I'm finding it hard to give any credence to his 'no music' self-indulgence, but when he gets sidetracked he remains a very entertaining author. Read Graham Bendel's 'A Nasty Piece of Work' - a very good, contemporary, art world whodunnit and whot did he dun?
  2. Can I nominate the Earl of Holburn Street? He walks up and down it all day, pausing for a cigarette beside the Foundry or outside Willy Hill's, before carrying on again...ad infinitum.
  3. Yeah, the clangers were a clear influence on Aphex Twin in his early career. Is it Analogue Bubblebath that seems full of them?
  4. Surely you're not suggesting Leisure was better than Parklife?! Otherwise I agree completely
  5. Ha! Who bought the Mogwai t-shirt?
  6. The Scum says they're playing Glastonbury but that hasn't been confirmed anywhere else (therefore it's probably made up). T in the Park would be good though, hopefully they'll be better than they were last time (a decade ago?)
  7. Allo everyone, Some of you may have noticed me posting reviews and stuff on here over the past few weeks. It occurred to me that some of you may be part time writers yourselves. I'm planning on making a real go of Culturedeluxe.com (for that is the site) in 2009 and it'd be useful to get some local people with an interest in reviewing albums, singles, gigs etc. involved. At the moment advertising revenue doesn't even cover the hosting so it's entirely voluntary but we get the odd guestlist spot for some of the tours that make it up here and you can obviously keep any CDs you review. The site then : C U L T U R E D E L U X E If you fancy writing something at some point then message me here or through the contact form on the site and we'll take it from there. Cheers, Richie.
  8. Cheers. Can't wait for the May gig (it's so bloody long away now!)
  9. Does Sandi ever get any further south than Dundee these days? It's an appalling line-up though, eh? Makes you wish for the days when the Proclaimers or Wet Wet Wet were headlining!
  10. Oliver and Peter Firmin revolutionised Children's TV in the pre-cheap import world of the 70's with wonderful characters and timeless stories. The fact the shows are still shown today (cheap repeat fees or not) is amazing.
  11. Even better. I'm genuinely embarrassed that none of us on the site got round to listening to Bon Iver. Also slightly miffed that 4AD chose that one not to send us!
  12. Not according to half the music publications out there who have it at number one! Maybe Stateside it did.
  13. I was pretty underwhelmed by Flying Lotus actually. A big shame as I was really looking forward to it at the time.
  14. Heh heh, I really can't blame you for your outburst! While I rather like Lightspeed Champion (must be the hat) I don't understand the appeal of the NME's darlings Glasvegas or Crystal Castles.
  15. Ah, now this was voted for by all our writers so there's bound to be a few cruddy ones that sneak in! Must admit I didn't like Hadouken! being so high but it's the way it goes Giles - probably won't do a Top 50 singles, mind you we have in the past. Top 10 remixes too I seem to recall that was pretty good.
  16. We've finally finished our countdown of our favourite albums of the year and, amazingly, the winner is not Bon Iver. See how many you agree with Culturedeluxe - News - The Top 50 Albums of 2008
  17. Thanks! I just wasn't happy with my notes at all! Yep, I hope we'll see them again, great bunch of chaps.
  18. These boys deserve to be huge - they deserve a better review too! Too much alcohol for me! Culturedeluxe - Live Review - Findo Gask - Aberdeen Moshulu, 29th November 2008
  19. A little late with this review, but here's what I made of the fabulus IMP night at the Carmelite (top venue by the way, let's have more there!) Culturedeluxe - Live Review - James Yorkston / The Pictish Trail and Rozi Plain / Lazy Sheepdog - Aberdeen Carmelite Hotel, 27th November 2008 Cheers!
  20. Oh I'm looking forward to this. 'When The Haar Rolls In' is my album of the year.
  21. A rather small crowd saw Glasgow's Attic Lights at Drummond's on Sunday. Thought they were pretty ace and reviewed them here. Culturedeluxe - Live Review - Attic Lights / Headlight - Aberdeen Cafe Drummond, November 16th 2008 Photos, as always, by Andy Thorn (you'll know him - tall bloke always down the front with his camera!) and, if anything, it's worth checking out the ace doodles on the set list! Headlight were in support who I thought were good also The Marionettes who I unfortunately missed cos I was typing up an interview
