  2. Rollin' - by Limp Bizkit. This may be biased by the fact that I believe Fred Durst to be a cunt without equal, but I'm pretty sure it's the worst ever.
  3. Ah Blackadder...home of the worlds best comedic quotes: Baldrick: "I have a subtle plan sir" Blackadder: "Baldrick, you wouldnt know a subtle plan, if it painted itself purple and danced naked on top of a harpsichord singing "Subtle plans are here again"".
  4. Reporter: "What do you think of Western Civilisation Mr. Ghandi?" Ghandi: "I think it would be a good idea".
  5. (Regrettably) it has recently had loads of airtime on Sky...Kerrang!, Scuzz etc
  6. To name but a few... Sheila E - used to play with Prince. Cindy Blackman - Lenny Kravitz Sam Maloney - Hole Vera Figuiredo - latin player, played in a Bruce Millers drum clinic a few years ago. Terri Lynne Carrington - jazz session player As for local players, god knows what their names are but I've deffo seen some good players over the years....maybe not super-flash, but played more for the song than some of the self-indulgent crap I've seen from a lot of blokes, oh, and my ex-drum teacher was a bird. She got her grade-8 performance, studied at Drumtech in London and is frankly a shitload better than most of us will ever be.
  7. i saw Madness at the Capitol in '84ish. Superb...if you're 8.

  10. Folks, Here's the deal. I'm 28 years old, I've played drums for 15 years, I've got my own gear and transport and due to a recent band split, I'm looking for a new band of similar ages/experience as soon as. I play most popular styles.....rock, metal, jazz, latin (kind of). My preference is for a covers band since I just want to get gigging again ASAP, and have no interest in doing recordings. Having said that, what I definitely DO NOT want is to play in a pub-rock band doing all the old standards a la Bad Company, Rollin Stones, Free, GnR etc etc. It has to be something a bit different, with a bit of an edge. Influence are extremely varied. I'm heavily into acid jazz, funk, fusion, jazz, soul, rock, grunge, metal, ska, punk, and almost everything in between so am open to all sorts of offers. Any takers out there?
  11. Totally depends on budget. Others have mentioned that the Pearl Export and Yamaha Stage Custom are good options around the 500-600 mark, and they are quite right. Forget about DW drums as bizarrely suggested by one reply, unless this person has extremely generous parents....this is absolute top end, and you'll get no change out of 2000 at the bare minimum. I play DW myself, and the shells alone cost me 3200. Others worth considering are the Gretsch Blackhawk, Mapex V Series which are about 400 - both are better thatn the cheap price tag suggests. It's actually very difficult to buy a shite sounding drum kit if you pay more than 400. The cymbals and hardware are where you need to be a bit wary. Always go for double-braced hardware where possible, and it is always worth spending a bit more on cymbals. Do NOT buy Stagg cymbals, which may look cheap and cheerful, but they'll crack in 5 minutes. Far better to go for one of the Sabian B8 Pro Pro/Pro Sonix packs, or the Zildjian ZBT/ZXT packs. Hope this helps, Neil
  12. Yes, girls can play drums. For example, Sheila E (ex-Prince), Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz), Samantha Maloney (Hole). About 8 years ago, Bruce Millers' put on a drum clinic in Aberdeen and there was some Brazilian latin drummer called Vera Figuiredo who played at it, and she was fucking amazing. Yes, Meg White is technically fucking terrible.....but so what. She plays for the music, keeps solid time, and frankly if she didnt play the way she does, the Whitestripes wouldnt sound as good as they do....it's the stripped down sound that does it. I'm sure she knows she's not the best, but i suspect that with millions of $$$ in the bank she doesnt give a fuck. Lastly, there are some piss-poor blokes that play in famous bands too. They play what is needed for the song and no more, and thats why they get away with it.....Ringo Starr is the obvious example, Again, I doubt very much that he gives a fuck that he stinks. Charlie Watts (Stones), Tony McCarroll (ex-Oasis) also spring to mind.
  13. Dimebag was - in my book - the most gifted metal guitarist I have ever seen. I saw Pantera at the Barrowlands 11 or 12 years ago, when they were on the Far Beyond Driven tour, and they were and still are the greatest live act I have ever seen. The only thing worse than him being shot dead, is that his brother had to be there to watch it happen. Metal has lost one of it's true legends. Gutted.
  14. Drummers often say that practicing along to a metronome makes them sound too "mechanical". This is a similarly flawed argument to the one about musical theory being unimportant. Musical theory wont make you more creative, but it will HELP you become more creative......knowledge is power.
  15. Haahhaha.....I havent laughed so much in ages. Newsflash..... if you complained about this post, you are either a) thick, b) a labotomized gibbon, or c) thick. As the mighty Baldrick once said....."Irony...that's like bronzey and goldey except made of iron". Looks like most of you lot actually believe it!!
