Why is promoting arguments necessary? Why is anything necessary?

Why do people come up with "lamest band of the year"? I don't need this cynicism or lack of appreciation of the fact that actual music is being made. I'm surprised this thread continued so long. People must have so much spite for, what I see as, no apparent reason
