  2. 'Lover You Should've Come Over' or 'Woke Up in Strange Place'
  3. Were there loads of Aberdeen hardcore poseurs there? If it hadn't been Valentines day I might've gone, but I think the tough-guy posturing of certain sections of Aberdeen's hardcore crowd might've put me off....
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if CPL aim to capture the student market first and foremost, with a couple of alt nights here and there.
  5. NO, roll on next SATURDAY - FUDGE AWARDS! Followed by AIR GUITAR!
  6. I think we'll be having a pre-gig soiree in the Black Bull, a kick ass biker pub not far from the venue, if you'd care to join us. We can communicate about it nearer the time though...
  7. Hell yeah - did you miss this thread? http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8617
  8. I favour the black sock. And salad creme is King Condiment. Seriously though, the Gig Announcement forum is relatively quiet because 80% of members aren't really interested in going to gigs. The lowest common denominator rules. Why would would anyone want to discuss creative solution to anachronist copyright laws (a thread I posted yesterday) when they can discuss their favourite types of Sex Toy. The internet is an amazing communication tool, but most people use it to steal music and share pornography. I'm not saying I'm any better, it's just the human race.
  9. I got the new Outkast album. That's about it.
  10. It's not about the music anymore, it's about the colour of socks you favour, or perhaps your favourite kind of condiment.
  11. Fair enough, some of these bands probably will be around in years to come, it just seems you're confusing popular with good. I think that's bollocks, sorry. Da Kidz know more about underground music? Bullshit, the kids know it's cool and fashionable to be into the underground, but that'll pass pretty quickly when the next big rock trend comes along. Finch are no more underground than Avril Lavigne, they're just marketed in a different way. Majors are clever that way. It's maybe easy for a smaller EMO band to have a hit, but that's because emo is the new cool, I can't imagine the same would apply to say, Drugdealer Cheerleader, or Rat Daddy. I've heard of the band, but not that song, can't be that much of a classic. The Deftones have lasted because they are a good band with a broad mass appeal. There's nothing hardcore about them at all. Man, people I know who like Finch call them emo. Emo is a tag that gets denied all the time. C'mon man, that picture of them in Kerrang a couple of weeks ago (accompanying the story about how their drummer is too shite to get to play of their album), looks sooooo heavily treated. The leader kid didn't even look like the same guy from their other pictures. As far as I know he's never used fake tan though. Or at least had his photo touched up for publicity purposes.
  12. Really?! You honestly think that the types of bands you like have the same mass appeal of nu-metal like Limp Biscuit? I'm not suggesting that it's a bad thing that they don't, but surely you see that a band like Everytime I Die are never going to have a big hit. And nu-metal? There are virtually no 'big' nu-metal bands at all now. Maybe Linkin Park, but they're more of a pop band, Korn have floundered and lost most of their fanbase to emo, and Limp Biscuit are a laughing stock. Sorry Ben, I can't really see Atreyu playing Top of the Pops anytime soon, Finch maybe, seeing as they've obviously employed a stylist and done some major airbrushing to their new promo shots. Finch are the Spineshank of emo. I know you like this stuff a lot right now, all I'm saying is that the emo scene has about 18 months left in it before slinks back into the underground and is replaced by the next big thing.
  13. That's not the point though, whether I'm on the cutting edge of fashion or not is it? Today's fashion is tommorow's laughing-stock. Are Glassjaw as popular as they were a year ago? I don't see them on the cover of Kerrang anymore. You know as well as I do that trends come and go, and post hardcore/emo has probably already peaked in terms of its time in the limelight.
  14. My word, track down the S$666 EP as soon as possible, that's some fucking righteous rock n'roll right there. Infact, come to Air Guitar on Saturday and I'll play some. There are clips here: http://www.thewildhearts.com/audio.shtml I LOVE Silver Ginger 5, the first gig was the best show I've ever seen. Consider them a happier, glammier Wildhearts. 'Black Leather Mojo' is much better than the new WH album. Check this out, it's the video for 'Sonic Shake': http://www.thewildhearts.com/video.shtml As far as I know, the singles club is dead, mainly due to the incompetance of Infernal. Probably for the best, the quality of the material was dwindling a bit. The first two are awesome, but the most recent one was a bit dissapointing. From the horse's mouth: "I don't know what's up with Infernal. It looks increasingly like I'm going to have to clean up this one myself. Don't worry, the songs already recorded will see the light of day."
  15. Jon Poole is playing bass again for this tour, I wouldn't be surprised if Sky Babies popped up on a few dates. They certainly played it on a few dates in Japan in December last year. Here's hoping Dregen joins them onstage for some Super$hit 666 action...
  16. My friend Neil Leyton is involved with this new way of coyprighting/licensing music: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 2004 Neil Leyton, label manager of Toronto-based indie Fading Ways Music, is delighted to announce that all 2004 Fading Ways CD releases will be sold under CopyLeft / Creative Commons licenses, legally returning to the buyer the options of sharing, copying and artistically exploring their purchased Fading Ways CD title. Fading Ways Music is the first internationally-distributed label to adopt Creative Commons CopyLeft licensing for its new physical CD releases. With over 30 released titles distributed in 15 countries by over a dozen artists, Fading Ways is Canada's most vibrant young label. Leyton explains: "Put simply, CopyLeft and the Creative Commons licenses means that if a fan copies a CD to give to a friend, they are not breaking the law. Even if they upload an MP3 and share it with other web users they are not breaking the law as long as due credit is given and they are not making any money out of distributing the artists' work." Established in 1998, Fading Ways Music is built on values of ethical treatment of artists, their music, and those who buy it. Representing 19 of Canada's brightest music makers whose genres span everything from acoustic pop to punk rock, Fading Ways Music is making history in an industry where the traditional values copyright was based on are being unwittingly made obsolete by the actions of the RIAA. The Fading Ways philosophy is simple: Offer the consumer a high quality release, and encourage the buyer to share it with whomever they choose. "Fading Ways will also provide an optional PayPal donations system for fans to contribute funds directly to their favourite artists should they be uploading or copying their music," says Leyton. "Our goal here is two-fold: to counter the RIAA-induced notion that downloading is somehow wrong; and to provide the fans with a voluntary system by which they can congratulate and genuinely reward the artists work." Old notions of copyright are changing. Fading Ways Music is at the forefront of a new era of quality releases and consumer freedom. The two first Fading Ways releases to be sold under the Creative Commons license will be two new artist debuts: Red Orkestra's "After the Wars" and Jim Clements' "Kill Devil Hills". 17. But they did play 'Schizophonic' at the Lemontree, worth the price of admission alone. I was beyond fucked that day. Saw them play 'Sky Babies' at the Barras last year when they played with Amen. And each of the 14 minutes of rifftastic rock was ambrosia to the ears!
  18. The b-sides to 'Stormy...' are fucking amazing, defintiley the best of the new stuff. Standout album tracks for me would have to be 'Nexus Icon', 'Get Your Groove On', 'Only One Hell' and 'All Up to Me'...
  19. Not really, it's because of their success in Japan that Ginge can live in a swanky part of London and drive a big car. CJ is married to a japanese girl. The only Jap release getting though is 'Tokyo Suits Me', it's a double live record, and a classic throughout.
  20. I partially agree, but the new stuff is still great. Comparing 'Inglorious' to *anyone's* music and that song will still win every time...
  21. I will indeed be in attendance with the usual posse. The Backyard Babies are supporting. It will be awesome.
