  1. owning a ding dong has everything to do everything when it comes to the difference between male and female perception of things. In the case of musical wankery then look no futher than youtube: the ratio of guys to girls doin shredz lolz videos must be infinity billion to one.
  2. I would be all for eating seagulls. Hate the cunts.
  3. The thing is, Curry Mount was far fucking better back then - when all that shit was at it's worst. I didn't know about it at the time, but I ate there regularly and was never ill. It got a lot worse when the new management came in. Especially the mushroom rice.
  4. That would be because you are not the proud owner of a penis, love.
  5. That kid is pretty good for 9 like. I quite liked those alternate chords that he played at the start of hotel california. His billy jean (or 'birry jean', as herman ri would call it) cover was also quite entertaining. The best I can remember in recent years was Nick Sterling who was an incredible blues shredder by the age of ten, and was jamming with the likes of satriani on stage at that age, when the guitar was about the same size as he was. Seen it before, but love that Dragonforce video Paul.
  6. Not sure about those Paul, but my band have had about 5 runs of a hundred tshirts printed from barone in glasgow, and they have always come out great: T Shirts UK : Bar One Ltd : Trade suppliers of quality leisure wear: T shirts.polo shirts.sweatshirts.caps.headwear.aprons.workwear.fleece.children's garments.schoolwear.bags.accessories
  7. say, the 80s. such as wankfest 80s rock. like germany. I like 80s rock.

Nu uh. You're only gay if you take it and like it.
  10. I think vocal harmonies are certainly one of the aspects that a lot of people really aren't aware of how much talent it requires to not only sing but to write. Not just the standard 2 people singing, one a third interval higher up. But counter melodies and obscurer intervals like 7th and 9ths Beach boys and Queen as already mentioned are fantastic examples, probably the best from the rock and pop worlds respectively. Some of the stuff mentioned in the pop songs thread as well, Seals 'kiss from a rose' has amazing vocals going on. As much as you don't associate metallica with that sort of thing, if you listen to the likes of 'Wherever I May Roam' from the black album it is incredible how layered it is in some places, and you really just don't realise it if you let the song wash over you. I've heard some of the vocals of this song isolated from the music and it's really interesting. It's a shame they never really pursued heavily layered or harmonised beyond that album really. Not that many people will be fully aware of his music, and if Hog reads this thread he'll coat his pants with a massive portion of population paste, but Devin Townsends vocal work is absolutely insane. The pre-choruses (first one at about 1:03) and the last chorus at 3:16 are huge, although you really need to listen to this on headphones to appreciate what's going on.
  11. I think a lot of the time it's to make up for the fact that they can't actually pen a good tune, so compensate with 'impressive' instrument theatrics. Writing a great song is a great skill in it's own. I personally love bands that can get the mix of the two in balance, but again this is entirely subjective and what I view as being great other people may view as rubbish!
  12. This is true for me anyway. I grew up listening to rock music as my dad was always playing Led Zep, Sabbath, Status Quo etc. My cousin got me properly into music when I was about 9, and I started to love Iron Maiden, G'n'R, Nirvana and such like. At that age I thought it would be so cool just to be able to play some of their riffs but never had the balls to take up the guitar. Until I was 15. I always loved music for someone who wasn't a musician, and it was a no brainer to take up the electric guitar. To this day I've never owned an acoustic guitar, never mind another non-rock/metal based instrument (although I do have a nice fancy Roland keyboard for playing synth chords and the like, but I'm certainly no 'pianist').
  13. Good thread. Being a musician who writes, plays and listens to what a lot of people would refer to as 'technical' music I find I do listen to a lot of technically challenging music. However, bands that are technical for technical sake is pointless to me. It's exciting for about ten seconds when you go "wow that must be hard to play", but then when there are no songs I find it fucking stupid because it's MUSIC we're talking about. It's like being able to make and cook a pizza in 5 minutes using only your cock. An impressive feat no less, but who cares if it tastes like shit? Meshuggah are a great example of a band I have grown to really appreciate the more I've improved at playing and writing music. I bought their album Chaosphere back in '98 when I'd just started to play the guitar and I really didn't fully get it or appreciate it. As a guitarist a lot of it doesn't even sound that difficult, but about 5 years later I started to really understand how unbelievable the complexity of it was, especially on a rhythmical level. This is a classic case of a band that I think non-musicians can maybe like, but never understand how fantastic some of their ideas are. Whereas in my opinion, a couple of their albums STILL manage to have what I would class as great songs, whilst being utterly inaccessible as far as music goes. On the tone issue, this is certainly something I'm very interested in. For the simple fact that when I play or go to see another band, I want it to sound good as possible. Tone is very subjective however, but in general terms it it still quite obvious if someone has a horrific guitar tone. This is usually apparent if the person playing is also not particularly good at their instrument, due to the fact that ability on instrument and tone are pretty much in direct proportion to one another. Beyond that you have the issue of acoustics and sound engineers when talking about live music, but that is a different thing altogether.
  14. Don't be ridiculous Original Spies. How could a year in history - which is essentially a concept rather than a physical entitity - have the ability to make a phone call? This makes no sense whatsoever.
  15. 2007 called. They want their "someone called they want something back" jokes back.
  16. Not sure to be honest Phil. I've just always called him 'grandpa'.
  17. Not for me they can't. But I know exactly where to touch a guy.... i'll give you a clue. It's not on the ear, it's not on the nose, it's on the balls.
  18. We do a good back and forth, you and I. Last time someone had an orgasm in my mouth it tasted nothing like falafel. Except for the salt content. Diggety damn it's pretty much comedy central here.
  19. I find it's far better to eat it than to use it to fasten sheets of paper together. I'll get my coat.
  20. Google. If I fancy making something, say chilli, burgers or a dish that involves pasta and prawns, I'll search in google, and then use the best ideas from a bunch of different recipes to make whatever I want. Works a treat.
  21. I'd say that would be far more controversial if it said 'yes'.
  22. I really like vegetarian food to be honest. Pulses and veg is all good in my book. I make lots of lentil or vegetable soups and chickpea curries etc. I also often choose a veggie lasagne over the meat version as well. I just like all food. Except corned beef and tinned sweetcorn.
  23. Our advanced civilisation means we can get a woman pregant by watching gay porn, wanking into a pot and using a turkey baster to induce artificial insemination. Doesn't mean it's the most natural, or indeed enjoyable, way to procreate though...
  24. It's not really the weather for it, but I would thoroughly recommend this homemade recipe for Sweet Potato, Chilli and Lime soup. Seriously worth trying: 1 large Sweet potato 1 onion 2 red chillis, de-seeded Juice of half a fresh lime 1 pint of chicken stock olive oil salt/pepper 75ml single cream (optional) Chop/dice the onion, sweet potato and chilli and fry in 2/3 tablespoons of olive oil for about 10 minutes on a med/high heat. Add the chicken stock and lime juice, stir, bring to the boil and reduce to a low heat. Pour it all in a blender. Blend to fuck. Pour it back in a deep pot or pan and season to taste, and add the cream if you wish. Stir and heat gently for a couple of minutes. Sit back and enjoy your masterwork. Also works really well with about 4 large stems of asparagus thrown in for good measure.
