yeah, i downloaded their track psilocybe off myspace i think, it's really good i think. last few times i saw them live i was disappointed, but i'd like to seem them again now. i admire the way them and their manager just get on and do things.
  4. yeah, they played in dublin on february the 5th and 6th, 2 nights at the temple music bar! i was gutted because we were in dublin from 2nd-4th that month! d'oh! think they're still warming up to start touring, playing another show in limerick sometime in may.
  5. not to mention that if you knew who posted it, you wouldn't call him an idiot once, let alone four times.
  6. well, it's a money stealing catch-22. premiums are based on - no claims bonus (how many years without claiming for an accident) - age (once over 25, premiums drop significantly) - car type The problem is that if you don't get on the no claims ladder, they won't start giving you the discount. my step mum learned to drive at 27, and her insurance was still well expensive, even though she had a beat up car worth nowt. it's crookery and thievery i tell thee.
  7. i'd absolutely love this either that or everyone starts with a certain amount of common tracks that you have to incorporate in some form into a song
  8. yeah, it's a total bastard when you start driving. my first insurance premium cost more than car. however, this year's was around 160 quid! scoop!
  9. that sounds pretty hot. prefer this one musically to the last one. compression nips too much now and again, has that ducking and diving feel to it, which is a shame. bits of it remind me of a rival schools song, other bits are a bit like therapy?, there's so much variation in the song which is good, a good vocal would really string it all together. i like the way that some of the rhythm often comes from the other instruments, too. on the whole, very well recorded, guitar production in particular is great. you seem quite a genre hopper, is most of your stuff guitar orientated, or do you dabble in other areas?
  10. yeah, they are hefty mo fo's. i play the bass in the band, so i'm the poor fool that has to shell out 25 quid for a new set of strings. though to be fair i've only done that twice since buying it in 2000. the B string originally was a 125 gauge, then second time round i put on a 130, then when restringing again i put on a 125 again but a different make and it sounded better. i really like having a 5 string bass, it's great for recording, though sometimes i do long for a four string because i find them easier (and often more fun) to play. however, when all your songs are written on a five string ... i wish i had more guitars.
  11. yep, downtuned isn't always muddy rubbish. all dear john's songs are tuned down to drop B. if you play power chords all the time then it does tend to turn to sludge, but then we don't, so it isn't a problem. i think a lot of people associate down-tuning with the likes of korn, other old nu metallers, etc. it can give your guitar a great tone (we use mostly les paul's though calum's just bought a tele) with a decent amp behind it (probably more to do with the heavier gauge strings) it sounds bangin'. going out of tune can be more of a problem if you really hammer the fuck out of the guitar though.
  12. mourning what? i can understand you being nostalgic maybe. but the best thing about drakes was the people, and they haven't stopped promoting gigs or going out in town. the spirit of drakes lives on, reincarnated in the venues of snafu, tunnels and the pelican!
  13. i once saw a guy outside world of sound in london place something like this, though i'm pretty sure he had twelve strings. it sounded absolutely amazing, and it didn't look much like normal guitar playing, he had two hands on the fretboard most of the time.
  14. http://www.audiodropouts.co.uk/02-a%20song%20for%20evil%20kinevil.mp3 should work
  15. not being funny here, but tell the bastard to turn it down. unless you actually need a new amp because what you have is rubbish. the reality is that when you play live, it's not a case of turn things up as loud as they will go anyway, you will often be told to turn things down so that the sound engineer has more control of the front of house sound. in rehearsals, the drum sound should be the guide volume... if everything is being drowned out by the drums, then of course, you need to turn things up. but you should be working to create a balanced sound as a band, not having a pissing contest about whose amp is loudest. however, if you do definitely want to buy another bass amp, then i'd advise buying second hand. you tend to get more for your money that way. have a look on ebay for guide prices for things like 4x12 cabs. i'd spend more on the head than on the cab, as the cab can be easily (a) fixed / repaired if broken and (b) replaced at less cost if you decide to upgrade again. not saying you should get a pissy cheap cab, but the head is what will make or break your sound. i managed to pick up a marshall 400w head and marshall 4x12 cabinet almost half price from ebay about 3 years ago (brand new), there are some truly great deals to be had if you look carefully and do your research. remember though, unless you want to play in a rehearsal rooms all your life, volume isn't everything!
  16. singer reminds me of a young robert smith. what does the rest of their stuff sound like? not bad either way. edit: aww pisss, wrong thread. oh well, while i'm here. think this is really good, should sort it out and put vocals on it though, even if it means going to someone elses house with a wee desk or something. music sounds like a blend of pablo honey / a happy placebo influences. the guitars are blended really well, especially towards the end. drums are recorded pretty well, and sit well in the mix, not sure how pumping they make the track, cos my stereo is turned down cos it's late. lots of nice bits of dynamic change in the song to stop my ear from getting a pounding, thanks. i really like the overheads sound from the drums, in fact the kit in general sounds pretty nice criticisms: - guitar lead work (the really high bits) seems to go on for ever, and though it changes it becomes a bit much after a while, as nice it sounds - compression seems a bit heavy handed at times (bass guitar around 30s, kick in at 1m04s) - there are a couple of points in the track where although everything is in time, the rhythms from the drums and the guitar seem not to match, and it's a bit confuzzling - that flange around 3:30 is horrible, it makes me dizzy
