  1. I think you can get a footswitch of sorts for it, and I think you can get a pro version which is exactly the same gubbins, but rack mounted with footswitch which is specifically designed for playing live...
  2. Partly. He is blind, but it's still a pretty ace technique nonetheless.
  3. On a bit of a tangent, Jeff Healy plays with his guitar on his lap, and his fretting hand on the neck like that guy. Means that he can fret with all four fingers AND his thumb. Some mental stretches in there!!!
  4. But at least they actually do play live on the TV. Blink182 also played live and they were utterly shite. Busted and McFly are every bit as credible musicians as Spineshank or any other "shouty" music. It's all elitist wank that is being spouted in this thread. I think Ibid summed it up pretty nicely.
  5. Even if you teach yourself you will end up having your playing tainted by the people that you listen to and whose songs you have learned. Also, if you are entirely self taught then you probably end up missing out on loads of knowledge and techniques.
  6. Have any of you noticed how the so-called musicians mime on shows like TOTP, and the only acts to play live lately are Busted and McFly? So what if they are manufactured? So what if the are targeted at a certain audience? So what if they don't write their own songs? (who knows, they may actually so) They are touring the world, playing to thousands of people, getting paid shitloads of money, and having a great time in the process. Maybe they were just doing the right thing in the right place at the right time.
  7. It's called fastfret. About 6 a pop, but it makes your strings last longer and makes them play faster.
  8. If you have a 100W valve amp and crank it to 10 onstage, soundian will smack you in the face with a large log. Succinct enough?
  9. What a pile of shite
  10. I once built a flying-V out of a telecaster. It had wires hanging out of it, so I covered it in red sticky back plastic and swapped it for a skateboard and a Whitesnake album. All this happened in 1986.
  11. You can do a course on it at music college.
  12. Bollocks, I say. Where is Stuart Zender of Jamiroquai, or Andrew Levy of The Brand New Heavies? Guy Pratt - played with the likes of Pink Floyd and Madonna?
  13. I don't really see why you would need a 4x12, TBH. Sure they look the dogs bollox, but when are you going to get to really crank it up? And when it's miked, only one of the speakers will usually have a mike in front of it.
  14. Open D sounds great for slide.
  15. I've recently bought a DSL401, and it sounds the shit!! Small, versatile and packs a mighty punch!
  16. Spooky!!! Inspired by this tread I had a go at sweeping last night as I hadn't done it in years, and came up with that exact same run:cheers:
  17. I have to disagree with a few points there, Spoonie. Sure there are alot of crap bassists in bands, but I think that its more difficult to cover for a shit bass player. If the bassist and drummer are tight as fuck, it don't really matter what the guitars are doing(up to a point!) The only thing easier about bass is the fact that most basses have only four strings!! It's not all about being flashy, either. Some folk might be able to play note for note some mental Jaco peice that they have learned verbatim, but if they can't hold down a 12 bar in C then what good is that?
  18. I find it good to go and buy a CD of a type of music that I wouldn't normally listen to, and learn to play it. It's a challenge and opens you up to many new ideas.
  19. I dunno what to make of this thread! Sure it's easier to blag bass, but I would argue that to be a great bassist is more difficult. Guitar players that pick up a bass play it like it is a guitar. I think a bass player that picks up a guitar will ultimately make the better player.
  20. Of all the bands on TOTP last week, the only band to perform 100% live were Busted. You have to give them some respect for that.
  21. If you've spent 10yrs on these tunes, it's obviously a labour of love so I'd spend more time deciding what YOU want so you end up with something that you are really happy with, and with no compromise.
  22. I did the same thing with the Master Of Puppets book!! Desposible Heroes was my nemisis. I still can't nail that fucking solo:swearing:
  23. When you say turntables are you talking about DJ decks for mixing or a hifi turntable? If it's a hifi one you are looking for I'd recommend Project. I've a Project (2.0 I think) with a good quality cartridge and the sound is so much better than my signature model Marantz CD player. Look second hand in the likes of Holburn Hifi.....
