  1. ive got a novation k station. its in the same price range as the microkorg and its rather amazing...has full size keys too which is one of the reasons i didnt get a microkorg.
  2. we played in drakes once and some guy asked for vienna by ultravox after every single song and at any vaguely quiet moment in the set. rather unusual...
  3. what a fine tune that is
  4. you use md data disks with those things.they cost about 8 quid a go, and i think will record about 15mins if you are using all 8 channels. you can use a normal mini disk if you just want to record stereo stuff. we had to use them in 1st yr at uni before they would let us use a "real" studio. to be honest i wouldnt bother with them...for the same money you can get a decent hard disk multitracker and then you dont have to worry about the disks. or better still just use a computer.
  5. easily the best would be radiohead at edinburgh corn exchange last year. closely followed by radiohead at glasgow green in 2000. muse at the secc earler this year qotsa at the barras bob dylan at aecc
  6. i like that idea. surely its just the same as a les paul type system, when you have the toggle swich in the middle, except with 3 pickups instead of 2? also my mates warwick bass works in this way...its great as you can drastically alter the tone my mixing the pickups in different ways.
  7. youngblood brass band are my new favourite band... they absolutely kick ass. just a shame ill be down here in glasgow at the weekend.
  8. i have to say it was one of the most cringe-worthy things i have watched..."we are big rock stars now so we want to play on the roof" dear me...

  10. what do you mean by spot mic's? what make/model are they?
  11. cant believe muse are on the same time as bowie...thats dissappointing indeed
  12. mac all the way... as for software...if you can afford Logic Pro (around 700 pounds) its an incredible package...as many tracks of audio as you want...many amazing soft synths and some really good plug ins...including emagics space designer reverb (worth over 300 on its own) and the exs 24 sampler. mart...me and a couple of others use the maudio firewire 410 interface...have found it to be incredibly good and the new drivers make it really stable. would definitely recommend it.

  14. dunno if this has been up before but i thought it was rather amusing... http://www.rathergood.com/lightsabre/
  15. its ok...im not a fan so it didnt interest me that much...its basically about all the techniques he used to record st anger. there was one a couple of months ago with rich costey about recording absolution by muse...that was cool. he is an incredible producer with some interesting ideas...
  16. speaking of which there is an interview with bob rock in this months sound on sound magazine
  17. im sure james wbl will agree with me on this one... the (mighty) evergreen and the mightier TAR. it was completely rammed...a guy went home in an ambulance...if i remember correctly james crowdsurfed to the bar... what a night indeed
  18. alot of the time a separate mixing engineer is essential...the producer has been working on the stuff so long already and knows it so well that it is hard to get decent perspective on the mix...the fresh ears of a mix engineer can really breathe new life into a recording. also a good producer doesnt always make a good mix engineer...mixing is an art unto itself i suppose.

    Sparta

i think sparta are a great band...the album is fantastic and they are brilliant live. i dont think you can compare any band to atdi...amazing as they were sparta dont resemble them and as far as im aware dont claim to resemble them in any way.

    Buy This

you can get the hr album for a fiver in fopp just now
  22. mike from the 44s has a short scale bass...you definitely need special strings. they tend not to have much sustain but still have a really cool "pingy" sound. go buy the 44s ep and find out:)
  23. if i were you i would get hold of a wee mixer...you could plug the mic preamp output into the input of the mixer then use a line output of the mixer into your soundcard. you could even use one of the aux sends on the mixer to control the level...then you could use the mixer to tie up any other stuff you have e.g keyboard, output to monitors etc. iain
  24. i played paranoid android by radiohead, another brick in the wall pt 2 by pink floyd and crossroads by cream. the last one is good for a wee show off solo at the end
  25. it is indeed by boccherini... remember that kids programme zapp...the one with the comic book characters...it was also the music while neil buchanan painted crazy pictures.
