    What is emo?

*shrug* at least, with emo, they are playing their own instruments, and if that's encouraging people to pick up instruments, then there's nothing wrong with that. Okay, so they might listen to 'emo' now, and you might think it's a bad thing, but who knows? they could discover thrash metal down the line and end up in some utterly mental extreme norwegian black metal band - the point is, if it's encouraging people to play music, then it's a good thing. I'd rather be emo than manufactured, any day of the week.
  2. *gets out the cuts t-shirt*
  3. so if you're just hardcore, you can be called 'core? 'hey man! i just bought the latest 'core album!' no wait..*goes back to sleep*
  4. I downloaded the pictureclip thing as well - I'm thinking Cranberries crossed with David Gray...which isn't at all bad in my book
  5. Why haven't I discovered the genius of these guys before? i recommend. thoroughly, if only for the pure cheese that seems to come out when listening to them
  6. you're going to suggest throwing caution to the wind and making Black Rose Immortal 2004?
  7. how did you know i was on here? i nearly fainted before realising just who you were..when did you join? and more importantly, you're damned right about being a big Nightwish fan. I'm going to the next gig that they play here, without a shadow of a doubt Nightwish bloody well rock, nothing beats driving down Union Street while playing End of All Hope and singing it at the top of your voice at scared looking people on the street I don't really have a favourite album because there's good songs on everything, hence why From Wishes To Eternity rules because it's almost a perfect setlist..Tony Kakko (of Sonata Arctica fame, yet another band that people should check out) and Tarja doing Beauty And The Beast is amazing. The Kinslayer rules for being downright evil, Roll Tide (the live cross between Crimson Tide and Deep Blue Sea) is just downright fantastic..I could go on all night...Oceanborn and Wishmaster are probably the two most accessible albums, though. Once is supposedly going to be the final transition towards an album that sounds almost like a movie score, I can't wait.. http://www.spinefarm.fi/press/spinefarm/nw2004/index.html < look. yum. give. now.
  8. What, could we discuss the local movie scene of Aberdeen, Scotland? (hey, it's an idea...aberdeen-movies.com, haha)
  9. It really depends on the nature of the gig - you can't just say 'yes, they should get paid' or 'no, they shouldn't get paid' unless you consider every little variable there is. The bottom line, as far as I see it, is that the band should get some sort of a share of the profits depending on what they've contributed - it wouldn't be on for a promoter to make 100 from a gig (after all expenses are covered) and then not pay the bands *something*. As for touring bands playing in small venues - it's a tricky one. Your venue is bound to become more diverse by putting on bands from all over the pace, but you have to pay them enough to make sure that they come back. I don't think there's an easy answer to this question at all, really. edit : Indeed, this is something that I've never understood. I've heard people whine about how they don't have the money/resources to promote their gig/band properly, but how hard is it to sneak into the IT Centre in Aberdeen College and print off loads and loads and loads of flyers/posters? I bet you could even approach some professional flyer makers and ask them if they'd be willing to give you some in exchange for free advertising for them on the flyer - you might just get a positive 'yes'.
  10. it would be, but after two nights of solid drinking 9of which, tonight is the first), somehwo, i dont think drakes would be a good idea hope it's fun anyhoo
  11. Tried phoning the council? actually, don't, I spent half an hour once trying to find out what the rates relief was for a charity shop, and hardly anyone could tell me.

    JUKEBOX

Just the local band by that name they played recently at the Lemon Tree with Cayto, the X-Certs and King Liar and the Brutes - and more recently at Kef with Broken Sunshine, Point of Origin and The No Pints, but they were kinda out of place there (they seem to be appealing to the older gig goers, at least).

You know you want to, it'll be a good move Actually, that would just make me come and spend more money in that retro game machine, I went in tonight and discovered it had Hyper Sports, and now I'm sadly addicted I remebered playing it from being 6/7 and going to the arcade, and...and..it's too addictive

  21. hairball incident? did i miss something here?
  22. Cuts were brilliant as (now) becoming usual, I felt really, really bad for them when a load of people seemed to fuck off after Broken Sunshine though. They sounded better than at the Lemon Tree as well, which is saying a lot. The No Pints were..weird. I stated off thinking 'uh, not impressed', but by the end, I was thinking 'hey, i could like this'. They had a certain mad charm about them. Broken Sunshine can be compared to one band in a nutshell - the Switchblade Kittens. Not a bad thing, and they seemed pretty happy up there, which is a good thing. Point as a band weren't bad, but weren't groundbreaking, earth shattering either. There's a couple of gems in there though - so if they can continue to evolve, hopefully more gems will come through and make them something that cannot be missed.
