  1. ..good question. i don't know. where did it go?
  2. Admit it, the theory is good for when you want to create a spot of power metal (although..your knowledge of Lord of the Rings is far more important )
  3. Not enough time on his hands, he said. and yeah, he was the man on the bass
  4. haha, it'll be worth it
  5. Anyone know of any music that's like Roll Tide in terms of epicness? I've got this new obsession with anything that sounds like that, so..recommend me something, please?
  6. best gig that i've been to locally was The X-Certs back in January at Drakes, there was something magical in the air that night. I don't know what it was, but there was just *something* about it. otherwise, Manics in Glasgow in 2002.
  7. i'm going to find a stray dog and subject it to that test
  8. hey, good a reason as any
  9. yeah, it can be really bad at times any idea what time the first band is on tonight at, by the way?
  10. Isn't that what everyone wants in Aberdeen? I'll be watching all the bands regardless anyway, I'm not too convinced by the sound of The No Pints, but I'll make sure that I'm there for them, it just wouldn't be fair to not give them a chance.
  11. actually, if it's in order of The No Pints/Cuts/PoO/Broken Sunshine, that sounds pretty much brilliant to me won't Point be pulling in their own crowd though?
  12. hey, i wouldn't mind getting an aberdeen-music one, solely so i can discover at the start of conversations with randoms that i actually know them from on here
  13. wah, well, i don't particularly care who plays where, i'll be there for the whole lot anyway see, i solved all problems when i promoted my own gig and lost loads of college money in the process, we held a random drunken draw, which resulted in possibly the most fucked up order ever, but it was a great laugh (yes, we had speed metal after acoustic guitar, that's how wonderfully organised it was)
  14. Yeah, I don't think there's one solution for every gig - but rather it depends on circumstances/etc. I don't think it's as simple as saying that 'oh x band are the biggest, so they should go on last, and x band are new, so they should be first'. I have to say, that's one of the most sensible things that I've heard on here. It does depend on the gig though - closing can be a wonderful thing, or an awful thing..it's just one of the little things about here, but of course, there's always the moan that people don't stick around for the last band because of buses/etc. Should be done more, I agree. I suspect you'd always get people who were fucky about not closing though. If, as said, Broken Sunshine are closing, it makes sense to a degree, but only if you consider them a closing act and not a headlining act. I don't know though, this whole gig seems a bit strange to me. It doesn't seem like a 'point' gig anyway. Well, I'll be there wearing my Cuts t-shirt, obtained for a fiver I dunno though, they seem to be going along the lines of building a fanbase rather than getting a large crowd from the outset. Well, I'd say that they deserve to have the choice of where to play - not based on who's better, but simply based on who's most likely to drag the most people in. Yeah, I agree...I don't see why a band that's been around for ages should have any sort of status if they aren't pulling people in through the door - although their opinion should be considered, simply based on their experience.
  15. The only thing missing from those toilets is one of those guys who offer you aftershave oh, what time do you open at by the way?
  16. I dunno, this looks funny to me full stop..my way of seeing it though is that Aberdeen is crying out for something different, and the ever friendly Cuts seem to have that part sown up. There's been a lot of queer gigs lately though, this just strikes me as being yet another one that hasn't had much thought put into it. Anyway, is headlining really that important in Aberdeen anyway? What's the actual running order anyway? are point actually supporting cuts, or what? And more importantly, who on earth are 'no pints'?
  17. Simple because it's an extension of reality, if you will..I mean, when people go to gigs, they talk about other random stuff apart from just music - and so this merely serves as an extension of that, in a way. I've never viewed this site as solely about the music - it's about the whole 'scene' in general.
  18. Yeah, that's what I mean, it's fine now..didn't have a problem before with it, but it's fine the way it is now. I've chosen to go to a few gigs before based on the response to a thread about it - even if I had no clue as to who the hell they were. Anyway, if this really is the case and gig numbers are falling due to the organisation of aberdeen-music - doesn't that show that some people have been relying far too much on the internet and not on other forums of promotion? I've noticed that there's bands out there who seem to have a fairly big following locally, despite there being next to no fuss about them on here. I can't remeber who it was, but I remeber walking past Drummonds one night and the place was packed, yet when I checked on here to try and find out what was so good about them, there was nothing about the gig at all.
  19. awww, man still, i'll be there on saturday
  20. Couple of points here... What difference does the organisation of the messageboards make in terms of actually turning up at the gigs? Most gigs are advertised at the calender thing on the top of the forums, so unless you stick your head in the ground, it's not hard to see what's on. I usually go for a prowl in both the AUBL and All Music forums to see what might be on in the future, and it's not really that hard. As for attendance at gigs, I think it was Rob Karloff that once said to me on here that he'd never seen a band really go for it as far as promotion was concerned. I've never been handed a flyer for a local gig when out in town anyway, although some people assure me that they've done such a thing in the past. Maybe it might be an idea to conduct some market research some day into just how aware the general public is aware of the music scene in Aberdeen? Maybe such a thing has been done, I don't know. My other point though..Rob Karloff made a point about how some people are more into the scene than the music. I have to say that if it hadn't been for the people in the scene, I'd unlikely have continued to want to go to gigs and such like. It's strange, but I could directly attribute my attendance at a few gigs solely based on people who I knew being at a gig where someone's played, and then i've went to another gig of theirs to discover other bands, and it all goes from there. It might not be as important to people who's friends are in the scene already, but to people who are just starting to go to gigs, the people in the scene are almost as important as the music itself. I'm not sure if this makes any sense, but the core point is that it's not just about the music. I've got one gripe with the boards - it seems to really, really clutter things up with all the band forums being visible on the front page. Otherwise, things are fine the way they are - although I wouldn't support The Wasteland being subdivided anymore, otherwise it runs the risk of losing the charm that it has.
  21. Free All Angels was discredited solely by the way that they released seemingly countless singles off it, but otherwise it was a fine album. Walking Barefoot is *brilliant*.. and wait..did someone mention hulk hogan bubblebath?!
  22. Oh yes, I'm Power Metal apparently..LUCA TURELLI FOR LIFE
  23. Haaaaaang on, I'm supposed to be going to this... Yeah, I'll be there..no doubt wearing the Cuts t-shirt that somehow came into my possession after their last gig
  24. Stornoway?! do you know how far away that is?!!?
