Guest davetherave
Warr GuitarsIf you like the stick, you might like these as well http://www.warrguitars.com/Cheers,Dave
Graham
I want one but they cost loads. Wouldn't mind just having a shot of one but I've never actually seen one in the flesh. I'm guessing they are really hard to play.
Tav
The second stick method video is great. When I first saw a stick I thought it looked pretty gay but now after seeing it being played it's SO cool. Like having a guitar AND a bass at the same time. I'm going to see if I can get some stick music...although it's nothing you can't do with a bassist and a guitarist...still...WOW!
Jimmygoodein
haha, Id like one for a laugh. theres some good pics of guys with beards and work shirts on the site, i like it. Tony Levin is beast though
Tav
Gotta have a beard to play the stick, there's an article about the stick in prog. I'll have to see if I can persuade someone in TMNC to get a stick.
Guest AmbientMood
I don't think the idea will catch on with the kids, but I've been listening to tonnes of mp3s and they really do sound great. Where the hell could I play one! I don't think they'd be all hard, just like guitar tapping but easier.
...mole...
i want one as well. still to expensive, any cheaper alternatives?
Guest davetherave
Here's a virtual stick http://xstick.sourceforge.net/ , gives some useful info on tunings and playing.I've always fancied trying one, but they are about as easy to find as pink doc martin wearing weasels!!I was looking at prices on the stick website, after currency conversion I'd be looking at shelling out around 1700 quid for a stick with midi option. Ah well theres always e-bay Cheers,Dave
Hog
Crazy expensive! I think they would be easier to play with a bit of Piano and guitar experience. I would love one though! Wonder if you can play metal on one?
Mac Atom
Wonder if you can play metal on one? Check out "Falling into Infinity" by Dream Theater, John Myung is packing some hot Stick action on that album
Guest davetherave
Most of the King Crimson "discipline" Cd has some damn fine stick playing on it as well.
Guest AmbientMood
Maybe if we club together we could get one: I could keep it saturdays, you on tuesdays etc..That at least a Stick appreciation thread would be in order.
empty-words
Alot of bassists use them e.g John Myung form Dream Theater uses one. I have played one when i went over to america. Theyr super hard to play but the technique is the same as tapping on hte bass.
David
a guy on another forum i visit plays the chapman stick, and sounds awesomethey can do everything from jazz to heavy metal, and sound excellentrather expensive as a toy though, but very cool if you wanted to get into playing them properly, coming from a guitar point of view it would be quite a challenge getting both hands independantly doing different rhythms, i guess simpler if you come from a piano background tooDavid
