paime
Someone told me you can get the red ring of death fixed for free through Microsoft but when i phoned them they said it would cost £60. Since it's a manufacturer's error, surely they should fix it for free?
Flights
Milner has an ingenious solution for this involving beach towels.
Moose
If its still under warranty (which I'm assuming its not) Microsoft will fix it for free. Check the warrenty, because I seem to remember them being about 3 years long.

So if it's under 3 years old you should be able to get it fixed by MS. Certainly worth the hassle of putting your serial number into the microsoft website to find out. paime
Yeah it's older than 3 years. I just thought that the nature of the issue meant they would fix it for free but maybe not. £60 is a small price to pay for a new xbox anyways i guess. Flights
I'm telling you, get a beach towel and ask Milner for his secret!
Moose
Don't use the beach towels. It might work from time ti time, but will mostly just exacerbate the problem.
Soda Jerk
I thought the extended RROD warranty was 5 years? Don't Microsoft just fix it anyway (or send out a refurb) if you send it to them?
french_disko
Manufacture date, according to the laber sticker, was June 2007 - so 5 years old.Might be cheaper buying a second hand one.

The Milner
The towel trick works a treat, an absolute treat, i got an extra 6 months out my xbox using it. I bought it for less than £60 second hand so it was never worth sending to get fixed, unplug everything attached too it, hard drive, cables (except power cable), and controllers, wrap it in 2/3 beach towels, turn on for 20 minutes or so, turn it off and completely unplugg, unwrap it and leave to cool down for 30 minutes, and boom, your back in action.
