At that point, Leona Lewis' version of "Run" was second with 28,000. Could we have an all-cover top three this week?

delboy
why can't the good old british public just go out and buy status quo's cracking christmas effort and put the lads top of the pile where they truly belong!i don't think there has been a good christmas number 1 since the pet shop boys spiffing cover of 'always on my mind' in 1987. although i do have a soft spot for east 17's 'stay another day' i'm not sure if it was xmas number 1 (think it was not got time to look right now).on 4 music last night they showed the burke and lewis covers back to back, its hard to tell the difference, i would say lewis has a better voice though.but she has litereally murdered and raped 'run' especially in the instrumental bit which on the original is extremely powerful, she's warbling all carey like (why do all these x factor wannabies just want to be carey???).still after showing those two they put on the video to the geraldine christmas song, that was more like it! where's sir clifford of richard when you need him? I loved that tune at the time (I must have been about 12), and still really like it to this day.Mr Blobby was good as well, just for a bit of fun - that was in the day when it was exciting listening to the charts to see what was going to be number 1. Now it's all done and dusted before anything's even released. X Factor cunts.

Guest Exposure @ Lemon Tree
Do I need to remind you of "Mad World"? Great fucking song.Hmmm yeah - forgot about that one. Christ I'm getting old when I forget about these things. I actually went and bought that single to help it get to xmas number 1. Was that the last year before all this X Factor shit kicked off and ruined it for everyone?X Factor cunts.**think I might put "X Factor cunts" in the signature of my work e-mail... Guest Exposure @ Lemon Tree
I just googled xmas number 1's and it's just the past 3 years that's been ruined by X Factor. Before that there was the Band Aid tune, which was okay I guess, but another foregone conclusion ruining the fun a little bit. Then it was Mad World. Year before that was Sound Of the Underground, which I'm guessing was Girls Aloud first single after winning Popstars: The Rivals, and going head to head with One True Voice? Sound of the Underground is actually an ace pop tune, but I didn't just say that out loud did I? Fuck. Then we have dross in descending order:Robbie Williams - Something Stupid. (Something Stupid, surely refers to Robbie himself?)Bob the Builder - Can We Fix It? (Yes, by fucking off)Westlife - I Have a Dream (Me too, it involves Westlife dying slow painful deaths)Then a 3 year in a row Spice Girls fest.Michael Jackson - Earth SongThen the classic that is Stay Another Day by East 17, then Mr Blobby, skip a year and you get Bohemian Rhapsody, which is clearly genius and so on and so on.X Factor Cunts. Guest Exposure @ Lemon Tree
Everyone knows that "Last Christmas" by Wham! is the best Christmas song. And James Dean Bradfield's version on TFI Friday years and years ago was quite special
Bigsby
It's impact has been dimmed by over-familiarity, but obviously The Fairytale of New York is the best Christmas song.I also have a soft spot for Bowie and Bing.
Alkaline
And James Dean Bradfield's version on TFI Friday years and years ago was quite special Jimmy Eat World's version of it is fantastic. Guest
It's impact has been dimmed by over-familiarity, but obviously The Fairytale of New York is the best Christmas song.Yes! Was wondering when it'd get mentioned.I think the appeal of this song is the fact its basically a break-up song thats set at Christmas, as opposed to it being about Christmas-ergo, not so much of a tedious novelty factor involved.Anyone heard what the Killers are meant to be releasing?I heard there was a collaboration with Elton John on the cards, something like "Joseph rather you than me" but its under a fortnight to christmas, and still no video, radioplay or anything... Guest Exposure @ Lemon Tree
My top 5 (off the top of my head):1. Last Christmas - Wham2. Fairytale of New York - The Pogues3. Happy Xmas (the War is Over) - John Lennon4. All I Want For Xmas (is you) - Mariah Carey (I fucking hate Mariah Carey, but love this song...)5. Snow Is Falling - Shaking Stevens6. Stay Another Day - East 17(okay, that's a top 6...)
Lemonade
Westlife covered Extreme? I've never heard this or even knew it happened.I love Pornograffiti. It's my ultimate guilty pleasure. When I'm PRES-I-DEEEEEEENT!I used to love Extreme back in the 90s. Nuno Betterncourt was my absolute hero when I was learning guitar. Alas my copy of Pornograffiti got chewed up by my tape player and that was the end of that. I've never gotten round to buying it again. I will though..... Guest Tam o' Shantie
but she has litereally murdered and raped 'run'She literally ended a song's mortal life, then forcibly had sex with it? I think you mean that she murded and raped it in a non-literal sense actually!
