FatHand
There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting promotion up here started yourself . As I said I'll put you on at my next show which will hopefully be decent start. I think the main trick is to get your nights organised early, get the other acts you want to play with completely sorted and start getting a buzz about things as soon as possible. The more time you take in getting things organised and prepared in advance the smoother the night will run. A good example of how not to organise a gig was provided by the student radio at the last gig I played ... another story entirely.Don't assume that the venue will do your promotions for you, something I've been guilty of in the past, so get on that as soon as you can. Choose a venue appropriate to the size of crowd you expect. Better to have a small venue packed than a larger venue half full in my opinion. Even if it is initially just your mates and some of their mates, best giving them as good an atmosphere as you can! I'm a believer in talking to people you don't know about what you are doing musically and getting them interested... wouldn't underestimate this as a line of attack for increasing numbers over time. I wouldn't count the forum chat in that category but it is another useful way to let people know what you are doing. Problem is that it's easy to ignore a post and it can end up getting lost in the archives, can't beat speaking to people face to face! I've just started getting into the organising side of things and although all this is easier said than done sometimes, and possibly sounds a little condescending, this is my approach to it.Colin
