...DiZZY SToRM is very excited to be taking Boston's NEPTUNE back to aberdeen for what is shaping up to be a very eclectic night of art and music....this night will be a collaboration with a new (as yet un-named!) arts collective in aberdeen.....details of what else to expect in that respect to follow soon, also details of the excellent wall based exhibition that Peacocks will be hosting at that time

NEPTUNE played last year to a very mixed and unsuspecting saturday night crowd at the Tunnels, blew everyone away, and ended up selling the most amount of vinyl of the whole uk tour!!

Neptune's origins trace to 1994 as a student art project by sculptor/musician Jason Sanford, who, in order to create a new music medium while simultaneously destroying the posture of five young men, forged heavy, menacing-looking guitars and drums out of circular saw blades, gas tanks, oil drums, bike parts, VCR casings and miscellaneous scrap metal found in the trash. Neptune was assembled to showcase these contraptions in the winter of the same year and has evolved into a full time band that has traversed the US and Europe several times. The early guitars were haphazard and untunable, resulting in the atonal garage clamor of the early recordings. With several different members and collaborators over the years, the music has evolved with the instruments blending the traditional sounds of Rock & Roll with what sounds like mistake day at the ball bearing factory. The current three-piece lineup relies as heavily on home-made electronics as it does its signature scrap metal instruments. With less guys and more gear, Neptune rocks like The Fall, clangs like Neubauten and drones like Faust with improvised and not-so-improvised songs that you can almost dance to.

Jason Sanford - baritone guitar, oscillator organ, electric thumb piano, foot synth, tupperphone, small electric spring, vocals

Mark Pearson - baritone guitar, 4 string slide, bass, oscillators, homemade synths, large electric spring, percussion, vocals

Daniel Boucher - drums, electric floor tom, drum trigger, telegraph noise box, bass dulcimer, electric gas pipe, vocals

It is a very nice poster. Where the heck is the Peacock Visual Arts thing, i thought it was down in hookerville not the castlegate, maybe i'm just confused :(

Peacock is off down a lane on the Castlegate. Face the Citadel turn left toward the Castle Bar and go down a lane beside a charity shop. There is a sign!

Cool, i'm deinately going to the Audrey gig there :)

Having been to the Wixel gig, and others, I will say that Peacock is wonderfull small venue to see and hear something a little different. Because it isn't a bar there is something special about the events, it's not a boozed based evening out. Everyone should bring a cushion or bean bag for the Audrey gig. Its going to be special! First things first though NEPTUNE!

NEPTUNE | PATTERNS

GENRE | NOISY HOMEMADE ROCK VERDICT | JUNKS NOT JUNK LABEL | SELF-RELEASE RELEASE | 4.12.06

You might think that once youve heard the trash-bashing freakazoids of Neptune do their signature thang, youre all set. But come now. Think about ityoure not all set. It would be pretty bonkers logic to assume that a crew of dudes who quite literally built their band from scratch would plateau at the first sign of satisfaction. You dont want people thinking youre crazy or dim, so have a go with Neptunes latest release (their 14th), Patterns. Their arsenal of child-frightening scrap-metal guitar-thingies is here augmented by a barrage of homespun electronics and mutationstupperphones, telegraph oscillator boxes, amplified springs and metal floor toms. And sure, the results are abrasivebut in a good way, like getting your back scratched for the first time in years, only by a bear. The Lighthouse sounds like robots gone off their meds; little gnarly electronic sputters and thick metallic guitars chase a spooked bleep around until they all end up falling off a cliff. Fourteen Pleasures is a dizzy tantrum that brings Brainiac to mindif Brainiac were mugged by a hover-van full of space gypsies. Bookend instrumentals #13 and On Purpose, By Accident not only hint at the role of luck (bad or otherwise) in their music, but they also demonstrate the bands knack for press-record-and-go improv. So good youll need a tetanus shot. [MICHAEL BRODEUR]
