Marsh
There's a fish festival over the weekend. Some of you might be pleased to hear that they have taken a beer tent as well. It's the only place in Aberdeen you'll be (legally) able to walk about and have a drink and a smoke this weekend.

Marsh
what??? weed???No, I mean you'll be able to have a beer and a fag and wander about.Usually you have to be at a designated table in a designated area to have a beer and a smoke - you can't just walk about the toon with a beer and you obviously cannae smoke indoors any more.Sorry to dash your hopes, but the Castlegate isnae getting transformed into Amsterdam for the weekend........... pogofish
S'pose one could "preroll" and if its windy enough no one else would know...Remember, the smell seems less to you when you are smoking but to everyone else around you, the guy with the "stealth" joint tends to stick-out like a sore thumb. Marsh - you forgot about lock-ins! Nice to know what the boat is about, I saw it last night too.

rowan
DO YOU MEAN THIS?Aberdeen to host UK’s first continental fish festival Aberdeen is to host the UK’s first German Festival of the Sea, a fish-themed market already popular in cities across Europe and offering fun for all the family. The move comes after Aberdeen City Council’s Festivals and Events Forum gave the thumbs up to a proposal from Groupe Geraud, the Paris-based company behind the popular International Markets. The 10-day German Festival of the Sea Aberdeen takes place in the Castlegate from 15-25 September. The stallholders will be travelling from Hamburg, bringing with them up to 25 sea-themed wooden stalls and catering units, and the emphasis will be strongly on the preparation and consumption of fish products together with the very best of German beers and wines. The German organisers will be visiting Aberdeen again soon to finalise preparations and to organise supplies of fresh produce from local fish wholesalers.Forum Chairman Councillor Ron Clark said: “The German Festival of the Sea is a well-established event which is hosted annually by towns and cities across Germany and elsewhere in Europe.“This is a real coup for us as it will be the first time the festival has come to the UK and we are delighted to be pioneering the concept in Aberdeen.”Mr Clark said that as well as stalls selling fish and fish products, there will be other traditional German goods on sale together with specialist beers and wines. The market will also feature an outdoor café atmosphere with seating for up to 1,600 people. There will be music and low-key family entertainment, and official event sponsor Holsten Pils will provide umbrellas for the café areas.Mr Clark added: “We see the German Festival of the Sea as both an exciting new event for local people and as a means of attracting visitors into Aberdeen.“The festival will also help underpin the commercial viability of the city centre, and we envisage no negative impact on local traders — in fact, stores in the area are likely to benefit from the increased footfall events of this type generate.“Overall, we predict that the increased visitor numbers will help re-establish the Castlegate as a vibrant, successful and appealing corner of the city centre and the event as a whole will greatly enhance Aberdeen’s reputation as a first-class visitor destination.”Mr Clark added that the event would be advertised locally and regionally as a free family event.
