Graham
it looks like its from the 70's. whats the make? how much did you pay for it? pretty good find for a jumble sale!
Guest Neubeatz
Yeh my kid bro had a 3/4 bass when he was a kid, it used strings out of R'n'B, I'm sure they would have some if normal bass strings wont fit,I used to like it coz my hands are tiny and wont fit a normal bass!!! Tav
You get short scale basses/bass strings. The scale length is similar to that of a baritone, around 28" or so? Take it into RnB's and they should be able to sort you out with some strings.
catherine
the make is Zenta or something.. i paid 0.00 for it advantage of my dad running the sale... it was in the goods room which is the expensive stuff... but oh well
Leckie Gilman
yeah you will need lighter strings i reckon
Hog
Actually, this will sound like a really silly question... why are most basses so big anyway? whats the point!?
Tav
Same idea with a baritone gutiar isn't it. They have longer scale lengths to improve string tension at lower tunings with thicker strings. More tension means better tone, sustain and clarity. Hence the scale length usually around 10 inches longer than that of a guitar.

iain44s
mike from the 44s has a short scale bass...you definitely need special strings.they tend not to have much sustain but still have a really cool "pingy" sound.go buy the 44s ep and find out:)
