E F (jezebel recordings/raise the red flag)

ef is a four piece band from Gothenburg - Sweden. It all started under quite human circumstances in may 2003, and soon we stood in a small basement and created quite heavy music. It didnt took long for us to find that melodies, emotions and explosions was more interesting. ef use three guitars, bass, drums, organs, glockenspiel, accordion and a lot of effects to create the soundscapes

you can find various (wonderful) mp3s at the ef myspace page below

Otterley

otterley are one of scotlands hottest new acts, featuring all star line up with members from goldbloom, findo gask and lipsick!. recently played a session for vic galloway on radio 1 air session and are wowing audiences all over scotland with their superb blend of electro pop/post rock.

i would definetly say that this band are simply unmissable, an absolute must for fans of the postal service, cocteau twins, tori amos, cornelius, boards of canada

lots of mp3s available below, do yourselves a favour and give them a try. i guarantee it will be worth it!

Hookers Green No.1 (Snowstorm records)

One of Aberdeens most established bands on the Scottish underground scene. Eccentric and dreamy mish mash of tortoise, pavement, grandaddy, the flaming lips and the arcade fire.

this fine fine gig will take place at Cafe Drummond on Wednesday 26th October for a bargain 3. doors are likely to be at 8pm but this will be confirmed closer to the time

have a listen to the mp3s at hand, it will take only a short time and you may be pleasently surprised :p

I always wondered what Goldbloom were like. I imagine they were like a badly drawn version of Goldblum, like that episode of The Simpsons with "Bort".

Maybe it's the other way round

They sound great but that would be 3 gigs in 3 days if I go to The Kills' date=' Part Chimp and EF.....damn everything happening at once....[/quote']

october/november is indeed a very busy time for GREAT gigs

and to think people are normally whinging about a lack of good gigs :)

take them while they are there, december isnt usually the best month for touring bands :D

Fuck it' date=' I've decided to do all three!

Sleep is over-rated.[/quote']

I'm off that week so that isn't the issue! Travel arrangements are the main problem, guess i'll be driving to at least 2 of these....

Ef - wow there's a post-rock more bland, lifeless and unoriginal than Explosions in the Sky. They had a few nice bits in their songs but insist on surrounding it in utter crap and the song structures are balls.

Otterley- V.Nice. Real ear candy but sounding purposeful enough at the same time to not sound too self indulgent. The singer sounds a but like Roddy Woomble which is always good, better than a fake American or Icelandic accent.

Hookers Green - Och they're okay. A bit more flamboyance and much more interesting than Ef anyway. I wouldn't be bothered either way about seeing them though.

So it all depends on how much i want to see Otterley. And how much i'd rather not go to the shithole that is Drummonds.

christ, you're such a miserable sod sometimes. you don't like post-rock, we get it. now have you ever heard the expression "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all"? :p

for what it's worth i'm listening to ef just now and it sounds quite lovely. right up my bland post-rock street. should be a good night. i shall try and make it along, though things are incredibly hectic around that time and gigs are low on my priorities at the moment :(

what's the rough stage times?

Aberdeen play Dundee Utd at Pittodrie that night so i was going to nip down after that at about 10pm.

Isn't the Dundee Utd game the same night as Part Chimp?!

I'm wanting to go to both if possible..

Are Godspeed You! Black Emperor not considered post-rock?? I rather like them. I don't hate post-rock as such, just think it's a rather tired and overdone, yet bands are credited with being groundbreaking for making it, when they are no more groundbreaking than Oasis. And three bands were put up and i listened to ALL three of them and gave my opinion on ALL three of them. It wasn't me making a calculated anti-post-rock post. Sorry you have to take it so personally.

i didn't take it personally i just think you're overly negative in alot of your posts. you are obviously entitled to your opinion and to express it but you do spend most of your time being negative about things. post-rock is just a genre, and it's a pretty lame one at that. genres mean nothing but i am partial to long drawn out songs with quiet bits and loud bits.

to be honest i listened to alot of the ef stuff and they're not groundbreaking by any stretch of the imagination and perhaps are overly derivitive but it still sounds nice and i'll try and get along to it anyway. don't take my post too seriously, while i did have a point there it was meant slightly in jest.
