  1. I'm going to see the Michael Clark Company tomorrow (Tuesday 5th June) at HMT, and I've got one spare ticket that I'm trying to sell. I'll accept the first offer of £15 (face value is £23). Here's Michael in action, performing with The Fall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QZVGYzU6FI On the negative side, you'll have to sit next to me. (You don't have to speak to me if you don't want to, though.)
  2. Oh, I forgot to mention here that the next Strawberry Wine is at Cellar 35 on Friday 3rd August. (It was supposed to be sooner, but circumstances conspired against us, I'm afraid). Expect a visual extravaganza, of sorts....
  3. I can't manage this, unfortunately. I'd love to see the Kitchen Cynics Orchestra at some point, though - more gigs please!
  4. Not so much a rediscovery as a discovery, really (courtesy of WFMU). This is quite wonderful:
  5. You're right, of course. There's nothing wrong with having influences. I'm not really a Pavement fan, as you've probably gathered.
  6. Hmm, judge for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eckzjxXvcQ4
  7. Another very positive review of the new e.p, from Terrascope this time: http://www.terrascope.co.uk/Reviews/Rumbles_MAY_12.htm (You'll have to scroll down a bit - it's quite a long page) The e.p. is starting to pick up quite a lot of radio play as well.
  8. Err, I think you'll find that Pavement made a career from ripping off The Fall (badly).
  9. Yes, you're right, it's not really effect pedals per se. It's more the multi-layering of guitar parts etc. I do think it's a landmark album - it's just that the sound and production isn't really to my taste. I would agree with you that the You Made Me Realise ep is fantastic, though.
  10. I would rate Isn't Anything above Loveless, personally. Loveless is a bit too dense and over-produced for my taste - too many effect pedals!
  11. I nominate Ty Segall/White Fence - Hair http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkL26bcfUG0
  12. Thanks Alan. I was tempted to include some early Kitchen Cynics stuff, actually! I'm glad to hear that you're a Barbara Manning fan. She's v. cool.
  13. There were quite a few bands in the Banff area during the 60s, apparently. I'm not sure of the names etc. (I think my brother would probably know, however)
  14. It'd be great if someone unearthed some garage or psyche stuff.
  15. Nice review from the Mr Atavist site: http://mratavist.wordpress.com/2012/05/19/palace-of-swords-ii/
  16. This sounds like a great idea! I really hope it comes off. Do you know which bands are going to be featured?
  17. Thanks to everyone who came along - it's very much appreciated! We're hoping that Strawberry Wine is going to be a monthly thing - we'll let everyone know when the next date's confirmed. I've just posted my set-list on our Facebook page if anyone would like to know the sort of thing we were playing: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Strawberry-Wine/219642591474608 I think Kev will be posting his soon as well.
  18. Bump... Just a reminder that this tonight, everyone.
  19. The crazy prices have started already. 'Head Music' sells for £71, yikes! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370608553366?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_4099wt_1185
  20. We've got a Strawberry Wine Facebook playlist page as well now (feel free to post songs, anyone....) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Strawberry-Wine/219642591474608
