  2. Black righle is pickup selection. Haven't really experimented with the buttons ad the bridge pup isn't working, need to attack it with a soldering iron. Tuners are gash too, will prob need to hack it up a bit to make it playsble.
  3. Very chuffed with this, the sparkle finish is amazing.
  4. Oh, and it seems Yitzhak Shamir died in June so point me up motherfuckers.
  5. A nice tip, but there is no way I would buy a Gibson right now without playing it. I played a few Studio LPs in Guitar Guitar last week and the fretwork was laughable. Like razor blades. In contrast I tried a PRS Bernie Marsden that was a superb instrument. Never had gas for a PRS before but I do now...
  6. He just said. Was a great guitar for 40. Even though it's "only" a Squier, I can't help feeling sad that should perfectly good instrument is now gone.
  7. They weren't called "standard" in 54 anyway.
  8. I'm not sure if "lads" implies anything or not, but I am lucky enough to own a few nice guitars, custom shop Gibson, signature Fender, vintage Danelectro, pro line Gretsch etc, and the pickups in my Squier Classic Vibe hold there own with anyod them. Playing these through my 1964 blackface Fender, so I feel I can make a decent judgement.
  9. Yup. Played a few Classic Vibe teles and they have all been better instruments than an 88 US Standard I used to own - and that was a good guitar. Kevyrob, what Squires did you play when you came to your assessment?
  10. Just not true. The Classic Vibes are superb instruments.
  11. Fairly standard strat specs, 3 single coils, trem, this was one of the first Chinese strats, the later ones have thinner bodies but this is full width, rosewood neck. It has a swimming pool route, ie a massive one so you can drop humbuckers or whatever in there without hacking it up. Worth 40 all day long, I would keep it but I bought His Majesty's cv tele and I'm pushing 20 guitars so I just don't have room for them all. You are welcome to come round and play it through my 64 Fender Concert to see how good it can sound.
  12. OK, bought this strat off Gumtree a couple of months ago with a view to modding it, but got cold feet after realising that it's actually a very nice guitar and it's a shame to piss about with it. It's a Chinese "Strat" model, but apparently one of the first ones made and as such a better/higher spec than the current ones, eg full size body, "swimming pool" routes for humbuckers etc. It has a 50th anniversary sticker on the back of the headstock. Plays and sounds great, I even gigged with it at Drummond's last month after all the thefts. Body has some cosmetic scratches/sticker residue etc. Looking for what I paid, £40. Also a black Seymour Duncan JB Jr (Bridge). Bought it for a project, too hot for country, looking for £35.
  13. It was a Line 6 rather than a Mustang, but you are right, it still sounded good. The only caveat I would add is that I play clean, so I don't have to worry about the amp's distortion.
  14. Lots of guitars but with the Malpasos it's usually my tele parts caster with Bare Knuckle Yardbirds, Boss TU-2, Joyo Vintage Overdrive, TC Electronics Hall of Fame.
