  2. AGP presents JUFFAGE plus support Tunnels Aberdeen Friday 7 Oct 2011 7.30pm 14+ show 5.00 from One Up, Belmont Street, AGP ABERDEEN — Home and www.ticketweb.co..uk - on sale Mon 22 Aug 9am -------------- Juffage - Wall | Facebook Juffage is Jeff T. Smith, a solo sound artist and multi-instrumentalist from Leeds, via Chicago, Illinois. He is often seen in bars, art galleries, and basements with a bands worth of instruments. A recording enthusiast at heart, he has spent time in some of Chicagos finest studios including Engine Studios (w/ Brian Deck), and Electrical Audio (w/ Steve Albini). Live shows see him coming up wit...h inventive new ways of bringing his multi-layered recordings to the stage. Through the use of cassettes, drums, guitars, and assorted other loop-pedals and gadgets, Juffage creates complex, yet surprising catchy pop songs. Juffage performances have been compared to a synthesis of Lightning Bolts rhythmic ferocity, Radioheads lush pop sensibility, King Tubbys manipulative production, and Andrew Birds ability to make a good loop. The result has been described as a loud, frantic, and beautiful hyperactive and technically accomplished display. In the summer of 2008, Jeff somehow fit all his music gear into a station wagon and played over 100 shows across the U.S., before setting off for the UK and Europe and touring for the majority of majority of the year. In July/August 2009 yet another self-booked U.S. tour of the east-coast and midwest followed. In September 2009, Jeff moved to Leeds, England to complete a masters degree in Music Technology and Computer Music. Once he re-accumulated enough amps, drums, and other bits of music gear, he resumed playing live and received an overwhelmingly positive response within the Leeds music community. He has also recently exhibited multichannel sonic art works for the University of Leeds and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, utilising ambisonics, live looping, portable cassette players, and Max/MSP.

  16. Tomorrow 4 awesome bands - all for a mere 5! Be good to see a decent crowd down for this! Come on Aberdeen!
  17. Safe to say I majorly regretted going to see Wheatus way back when I was at school (mmm Im old) at The Music Hall - quite possibly the worst band Ive seen at that level. They had one album at that point (no idea how many they have now) and still managed to double the length of it for a live show that had more of them chucking bananas at each other than actual music. They also left the two songs that I knew (Little Respect and Teenage Dirtbag) until last which at the time being an impatient kid made me dislike it even more. Having said that it would prob be okay in somewhere like Tunnels for a bit of a laugh and for all I know they could have written 5 or 6 masterpieces since then.
  18. to be fair its quite often packed for shows these days too, whether it be by new bands or something like this. It is indeed harder to do just now given alot of people are struggling financially, but not wholly impossible.
  19. Line up is The Lorelei Wilson Disco Filth Elevation Crooked Little Vein for info
  20. I will say again that along with everyone else there is a submisson form filled out for you from your showcase by a judge. I dont know from the signature on it who this particular judge is but there is def feedback on your performnace in the magical blue folder mate. The idea was that the "judge" wouldnt be easily identified. In the past this has led to issued and people claiming favourtism etc. That is the reason that I have nothing to do with the choice, because people had already had a minor fit because I happen to manage/book for certain local bands. I assure you once again that all showcases have been handled in the same way. Obviously I cant control which ones STV decide to turn up to or indeed which ones crowds turn up to, but there has consistenly been a judge at each event.
  21. AGP presents THE BIRTHDAY SUIT (Rod Jones of Idlewild) + Support Fri 28 October 2011 Tunnels Aberdeen 14+ show 7.50 advance Tickets on sale 9am WED 22 JUNE 2011 from AGP ABERDEEN — Home and Welcome to TicketWeb! and in person from One Up from Friday. ---------------------- Rod is best known as a songwriter/guitarist in the Scottish group Idlewild. Alongside Roddy Woomble and Colin Newton he formed the band in 1995. Over a period spanning 15 years the band have toured the world as headliners and also in support of Pearl Jam, R.E.M., U2, The Rolling Stones and many more. Their album 100 Broken Windows was recently voted Scottish album of the last decade by fans in the Skinny magazine and continues to have a fanatical following. Their follow up album The Remote Part debuted at number 3 in the UK charts with the single You held the world in your arms reaching number 9. The band have released seven studio albums to critical acclaim and continue to sell out concerts across the globe. Aside from his work with Idlewild, Rod is also a singer songwriter under his own name, releasing a debut solo album A sentimental education in 2010. He has also collaborated on several other projects including the currently unreleased George is Jones album with American singer Inara George. More recently Rod alongside Emma Pollock has been curating and organsing music events for The Scottish Mental health Arts and Film festival every September / October. Born out of this The fruit tree foundation was set up by Rod and Emma to bring together various artists to collaborate, write and record an album in aid of promoting awareness of mental health wellbeing. The project has been a huge success and the first album First Edition features members of Frightened Rabbit, Sparrow and the workshop and Twilight Sad with James Yorkston, Jenny Reeve and Alasdair Roberts working alongside Emma and Rod. The album is released worldwide in mid June 2011. Given the busy schedule Rod has kept up for the last 15 years you might think he would want to take a break whilst Idlewild were on down time but no. Enter The Birthday Suit. Over the early part of 2011, Rod has been working in the studio on this latest record. Sounding more akin to early Idlewild, the record is a noisy yet poppy return to Rods roots and that combined with involving a collection of local musicians and friends, he felt that that it should be presented as a new band. The first single Do you ever? will be released as a free download on August 30th 2011, with a follow up and the album to be released in late October. Audio tasters of a few songs are available on Rods solo page on facebook. Links: Rod Jones solo - BandPage | Facebook Fruit Tree Foundation Idlewild
