Since the band started they have been lucky enough to support and tour with inspirational bands such as: IDLEWILD, FEEDER, ELLIOT MINOR, THE AUTOMATIC, TWIN ATLANTIC, PEARL & THE PUPPETS, THE XCERTS, SUCIOPERRO etc. In venues across the UK to sold out crowds. Fatherson have taken part in two headline tours over the later half of 2010, pulling large audiences across the country and packing out Glasgow's famous King Tuts Wah Wah Hut on both occasions.
  2. AGP presents THE WINTER TRADITION SCHOLARS + Support ... Tue 24th May 2011 - 8pm Cafe Drummond, Belmont Street, Aberdeen 14+ show Tickets 5 from One Up, Belmont Street, AGP ABERDEEN — Home and Welcome to TicketWeb! ------------- THE WINTER TRADITION are a noisy pop-rock quartet from Scotland. Their energetic live performances are emphasised by various dynamics that excite and involve the audience and they have succeeded in creating their own sound that is instantly recognisable to any listener or follower. The band have previously supported major acts such as Enter Shikari, Hundred Reasons, The Dykeenies, Flood of Red and The XCerts and have had national air-play on Radio One, BBCScotland, BBC6 Music and XFM. They have also been featured in BBCIntroducing podcasts, Gill Mills Best of Myspace showcase and were selected as XFMScotlands Artist of the Week. With their debut EP Well Make Our History (Sept2009) The Winter Tradition toured Scotland and were featured in many press articles and radio stations such as Detour Scotland, Glasgow PodCART, Radio Enjoyment, Leith FM and NewFound Sound This was further backed up by a headline tour, DF Concerts support slots and bigger national feedback. The Winter Tradition were then approached by POW! Entertainment who are currently managing the band. The Winter Tradition are currently recording their debut album with the release set for the summer of 2011. With imminent A & R plans the band are looking to turn full time and are targeting major UK Festival performances in what promises to be an exciting year for all involved. PRESS QUOTES: Big swooping indie always has a place on the UTR stereo and The Winter Tradition are quickly becoming regulars on our shamefully beat-up tapedeck. Both anthemic and ananthemic, the Glasgow/Edinburgh ensemble produce effervescent, guitar driven totems, tinged with sleak college rock production. The Scotsman Under the Radar One absolute pearler of a lead track that mixes the whole nine yards of power, punch, dynamics, warmth and expansion on three minutes that pass all too quickly. Dead Earnest Scottish Music Blog Pretty darn special.. So many amazing new rock bands emerging from this little nation of ours right now and that is a fine example Jim Gellatly XFM Scotland Im loving your stuff! Tight as hell! Vic Galloway BBC
  3. AGP presents SUSPIRE + Three Knots + support ... Sat 18 June 2011 Tunnels Aberdeen 7.30pm 14+ show Tickets 5 from One Up, Belmont Street - AGP ABERDEEN — Home and Welcome to TicketWeb! ------------- Suspire are an indie/alternative rock 'n' roll trio from Glasgow, Scotland. The band have been a three-piece since 2008. Having secured the main support for Shonen Knife and XSM in 2010 and also making their debut appearance at major festival, RockNess followed by US/Canadian tour dates, the band then secured Gordy Goudie of Echo and The Bunnymen as producer of their forthcoming single. In 2009, the band toured parts of France. Time well-spent testing their songs on a very different audience. Later in the same year, the band released their debut single, 'Legislate for Luck', which included the title track as the A-side and double B-sides, 'Aggressive Expansion' and 'Succeeding'. The single sold well over the expectations of the band whilst gaining international radio airplay, including primetime spins in Washington D.C, USA. Lindsay Hutton - The Next Big Thing "I think this trio could arrest the hearts and minds of a considerable swathe of 20-somethings with a flexible catchment for your more musically promiscuous elders" Gordy Goudie - Echo and The Bunnymen"A tight rocking 3-peice combo with a supercharged groove to wake even the dead" El Parks Is This Music?"I have to admit, Im a little in love with these guys. They believe in hard work and talent, and helping others with the same ideals." Rachel Bolland - RockFeedback"Suspire are one of those really great rock bands, no frills, no gimmicks. They just know exactly how to produce wonderfully intense indie-rock" Susan Ford Music-News.com "If Kurt Cobain liked Shonen Knife, Id like to hear what hed say to Suspire, the Glasgow-based trio providing the main support for the Shonen Knife show. Suspire play with energy this evening, showcasing passion through every beat and melody" Brian McGee Ex-Simple Minds "There is also a new band called Suspire who I really like and hopefully if given the time to develop and succeed they could be the next big thing" Bluesbunny Bluesbunny Independent "Suspire easily entertain your mind as well as they entertain your ears. Sunshine or Suspire. Either will bring light into your life."

  5. unfortunately SPOKES have had to pull this as shows were cancelled on the way up to Scotland that made travel too expensive for this one gig Show goes on with ESPERI and JUFFAGE - news on local supports coming soon!
  6. Totally agree - I dont mean that they should be allowed to act like fuck wits, just meant that it should be encouraged for people of that age to go to gigs. Its a lot of effort for bands to come up this far and regardless of what age a person is, its good to see people attending. The band were grateful for most of it (prob not the pancake part) but were saying that they had seen most of the pesky kids in McDonalds before the gig and were discussing why they wouldnt be fans of good music - then were pleasantly surprised to see the same kids at the show. We were all kids once and it used to bug me so much that I couldnt get into shows to see bands I loved, hence why all my shows are 14+. Fair enough a few of the ones on Tue were a bit annoying but honestly if kids werent into this kind of thing, gigs would be dead. Whoever said that was bollocks above IS wrong. I dont think I put on the latest throwaway trend bands on the whole and I know for a fact its near on impossible to get alot of working people to go out during the week. These kids at least arent sitting at home saving up to go to the next X Factor gig or spending their money on shitty i-tunes downloads - I know for a fact that the bunch of kids that are in question here have been to at least 6 or 7 of the shows Ive put on this year already and to me that is a positive thing that they are going to see bands like this unlike a lot of their mates.
  7. Didnt catch the first band, I really like Duke anyway and thought they were sounding damn good last night. Johnny Foreigner were great, I hadnt actually got that into them before but may have to stock up on their stuff. The pancake off the face at least had a back story (as in the singer had refused the offer of a pancake from said kid at load in) but still pretty knobish. Still if it wasnt for kids there would be fuck all atmosphere at a lot of gigs and indeed fuck all people at a lot of gigs. All in all a good night and weird to leave Tunnels reasonably sober.
  8. I kind of expected this so... Whilst I am organising the showcases, this is mainly in a booking capacity - ie I have compiled a list of the bands that have emailed me so far & have allocated a slot to each band. I am more than aware of my interests in certain local bands and whilst I obviously want them to get on this, id say its probably working against me more than anything. None of the bands with exception of Turning 13, who I represent as booking agent have so far applied for the showcases and I have had very little to do with any of them getting on the line up (if indeed any of them do) I am actively staying clear of this as much as possible, but I wouldnt be doing the job the bands pay me for if i didnt enquire about possibilities. The showcases will be judged and decided by other people, not me. I know the local scene well so will have opinions on the bands that play the showcases, but be assured it will be totally 100% fair. There are already more than 40 bands confirmed in showcases so by no means can all get on the festival and by no means will everyone playing the showcases be good enough/deserve a place either. I cant see a fairer way of doing it - if we decided on bands without doing showcases then people would complain anyway. At least people get a chance this way.
  9. AGP & BEYOND PRESENTS LAKI MERA plus support Thu 16 June 2011 Cafe Drummond 8pm 14+ show Tickets 5 on sale at One Up, Belmont Street, AGP ABERDEEN — Home and Welcome to TicketWeb! --------------------- Not since the Blue Nile's first recording has such well crafted music appeared from a Scottish band, Laura Donnelly's voice as affecting as Paul Buchanan'. The time may be just right for Laki Mera to make the leap to more widespread acclaim. The Herald Something wonderful The Skinny Glaswegian quartet Laki Mera extend and weave beyond the expected confines of genre with the May 30th release of their debut album The Proximity Effect on Just Music. It follows their 2010 EP Clutter which earned breathless comparisons with artists as diverse as the Cocteau Twins, Portishead, Blue Nile, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Radiohead. On The Proximity Effect, Laki Meras eclecticism continues as they pursue fragile folk beauty (Fingertips), flourishes of ethereal eeriness with vocalist Laura Donnellys tender vocals hanging in the ether like the voice of an imaginary friend (Solstice) and a gloriously atmospheric clash of sinister electronica and enticing pop hooks on More Than You. The audacious near instrumental Onion Machine provides a mid-album highlight as it employs a retro-futuristic synth riff, an emotive layer of cello, stabs of grinding guitar and an angular time signature. The majority of the album was recorded at the bands own Carrier Waves studio in Glasgow which allows the band the freedom to spend as much time as they want in order to refine their recordings and to indulge in their sonic experimentations. For three songs (Double Back, Reverberation and Solstice) that required a more organic sound, the band decamped to a turf house in Achiltibuie, a small coastal village in the Highlands, to capture a radically different vibe from Glasgows often gloomy outlook. The albums title was born from an audio engineering term, but it also revealed a second layer of meaning. Collectively, Laki Mera wanted a title that would communicate how people connected on an emotional and psychological level. Not only did The Proximity Effect possess a dual meaning, it also conveyed a parallel with the two key components of their musical approach. Donnelly and Italian-born producer/multi-instrumentalist Andrea Gobbi met at a time when both parties were searching for new musical projects. When Gobbi added a rich electronic production to Donnellys simple vocal / guitar recording, it set the tone for things to come. Laki Meras ranks were boosted with the recruitment of drummer and percussionist Tim Harbinson, who had previously played with another local band playing live electronica, and the classical trained Keir Long (pianos / synths) who worked with Gobbi on producing scores for film and theatre. Laki Mera are defined only by themselves: their music born from a love of innovative, technological exploration and organic artistry. laki mera Laki Mera | Facebook Just Music - offering the best in cutting-edge electro, folk, ambient, and chill.

  11. AGP presents SPOKES ESPERI JUFFAGE Tue 10 May 2010 Cafe Drummond, Belmont St Aberdeen 5 adv from One Up, Belmont Street, AGP ABERDEEN — Home and Welcome to TicketWeb! 14+ show -------------------- Spokes are a band based in Manchester and Newcastle (UK), brought together in 2006 by a combination of boyhood friendships, family ties and a relentless love of recording and touring. Critics have praised them for their grand sound, buoyed by bittersweet joy and devastating lows. While sounding like a band with much more than 5 members they go from euphoric noise to moments of intense stillness. While drawing upon folk, shoegaze, slowcore and post-rock their music is always distilled down into something distinctly their own. In 2007 they recorded their debut EP People Like People Like You which combined their off-kilter indie with more flowing structures influenced by post-rock and classical music. And it sold out quickly. The release also lead to an appearance on the main stage at the Big Chill festival where People Like People Like You quickly sold out at the Rough Trade stall. They also won the Sound 2008 competition and played at Rockness. This frenzied activity eventually caught the attention of Ninja Tune (and XFM who had them as a new band of the year) and their indie imprint Counter Records, who re-released People Like People Like You in the spring of 2009. Having played at the End Of The Road festival in the summer Spokes then returned to their countryside residence somewhere in the North-East of England to finish work on their first album proper. This time introducing intricate vocal harmonies and more complex arrangements. Spokes meticulous attention to detail and feel lends their songs a lush sound that has a clear respect for the classics, taking inspiration from artists such as Neil Young and Kate Bush. "From forlorn to optimistic, from near silence to stretches of beautiful, string- and harmony-drenched clamour, and, emotionally, every second hits home." (The Sunday Times) "Spokes seem destines to make waves of their own." (Q Magazine) "This record is a seamless surge of choral indie rock that sets the genre's bar high enough to give Radiohead virtigo." (Clash) "It's incredibly easy to fall in love with an album when it takes in elements of slow-core, post-rock, shoe-gaze, folk and pop music so effortlessly." (Boomkat) "A gutsy, all-out cavalcade of babbling, strident pop." (Artrocker) "Fuelled by the kind of passionate sincerity that distinguishes the work of the Flaming Lips." (Uncut) "Uplifting, rabble-rousing choirs and celestial voices." (Mojo) "Spokes are yet another band freeing Manchester from Courteenersitis and deal in pastoral indie with a post-rock veneer that builds to glorious climaxes." (NME)

  15. AGP presents 2 SHOWS FROM... Jonah Matranga (Far, New End Original, Gratitude, OneLineDrawing) + support from Mikee J Reds, Falling Into Difference & Guests Tunnels Tue 31st May & Wed 1st June (completely different sets both nights) 7.30pm Doors Tickets 7 (per night) or 11 for both nights on sale now at AGP ABERDEEN — Home and Welcome to TicketWeb! In One Up, Belmont Street from Friday 1st April -------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT INFO Jonah will do a different set each night and would like requests to be submitted to help compile the set for each night. Post requests on this event page or the AGP page and these will be taken into consideration by Jonah. --------------------------------------------- For Those who dont know much about Jonah, this will give you an idea of his vast career For Jonah Matranga's new album, 'You're All Those Things And Then You're None', the quirky artist first released solo acoustic versions of the songs, then put basic tracks up on his website for people to add their own ideas. It's exciting in concept and execution -- and surprisingly cohesive, given its chaotic creation. On one one track, 'Happy-Hee', upwards of 30 singers ended up being part of a fittingly sweet collage. The album(s) range from sparse and touching ('You Belong To Me', 'Secret World') to rocking and strident ('This Is Who I'm Gonna Be', 'Hold On') to poppy and idiosyncratic ('I Just Died In The Air' is a synth-fueled, hooky, lyrical pastiche of dozens of iconic 80s tunes). Included here are both versions of the infectious pop anthem 'Sweet Life', to give a sense of just how different the albums are. Jonah Matranga is essentially unique. His music sounds somewhere in between Elliott Smith, U2 and Cheap Trick, but it doesnt really fit into any genre. Over the last 15 years, hes fronted hard rock bands (Far, Gratitude) and made classic indie albums (onelinedrawing, New End Original). Hes made records with budgets ranging from $300 to $300,000. Jonah has worked with, toured with and influenced artists ranging from The Weakerthans to Sepultura. He's respected by people all over the music world. Hes recently turned up on hip-hop records from Fort Minor and Lupe Fiasco, as well as being featured on releases by Thursday, Deftones and many more. Jonah has played as many house shows as he has huge festivals, and he brings the same thing regardless of where hes playing ambitious songwriting, wit, honesty and an interest in making something new every time. His new album is yet another example of this. There's info about the new album and lots more at - Jonah Is Here. So Are You. You may know singer-songwriter Jonah Matranga from his various group projects--Far, Gratitude, New End Original and the anagrammatic onelinedrawing but music made under his own name still sounds as sweet... Matranga may have done his best work while flying solo. -ALTERNATIVE PRESS A loose, free-roaming approach to songwriting that pushes his music beyond the normal sad-sack singer/songwriter cliches -PITCHFORK One of musics most charismatic, tuneful, purist geeks... -ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY No Belle & Sebastian, New Pornographers, or Strokes for me last week, but I did see Jonah two nights in a row - he never disappoints (I actually sold my Saturday night Strokes tickets outside Hammerstein Ballroom before heading to Snitch). BROOKLYN VEGAN Jonah is one of the most genuine, passionate, and sincere people Ive ever talked to in my life. Music is his life and sharing that love with others is his major goal. ABSOLUTEPUNK.NET Jonah Matranga has played hundreds of shows and met thousands of people, but he still remains one of the most human and accessible people in rock today. That his quirky, self-referential style of performance works in so many venues: big, intimate, recorded and processed, is testament to the appeal of the man himself . PUNKBANDS.COM Is there a more hardworking and veracious guy in rock music? ANGRYAPE.COM One of the most influential artists out there. INTERPUNK.COM It is this comfort level and humility that surrounds Matranga and makes you fall in love with him, despite the fact that youve never met -CHATTANOOGAN.COM His intimate sets can last hours, when the lovable, neurotic rock geek interjects compelling and playful banter between - and sometimes during - songs. - MEANSTREET
