  1. Hey all,

After some thought i've decided i don't have need for my ampeg svt cl and 6x10 cab.

The head is a few years old so sadly isn't american but i think it sounds amazing anyway! Just revalved about 2 months ago with svetlana 6550s.

Never really pushed it that hard (never really had the place to do so!)

    The head looks amazing too!

    Also...

The matching 6x10 cab is also going.

I've gigged this alot so there is some minor damage to the tolex (just from loading in and out to cars etc) - still sounds as amazing as it did when i got it!

I think i'm going for a lightweight rig - so could be tempted with trades.

Or im thinking about 850 for the head and 700 for the cab. Or pm me any offers

    Ideally collection.

    I'll upload pictures soon.

    Any questions - just ask.

    Davie

Sad day. Good price for the head though.

  3. That Pound record was good, but seriously, I am so sick of boys talking about getting their dick sucked. This isn't the nineties, N.W.A. and G-funk have been and gone - lets move on. The beat was great, but I just think there is ploenty more these MCs to talk about. A lot of the time I just think "surely you can do better than that?"

Don't get me wrong, I won't not listen to a tune because of it, but I'd much rather listen to something thats got some emotion, or is really dark, or really summery or has some mad word play over the whole "here check me - I'm great" sorta stuff.

  4. Is the difference in price of .wav and .mp3 just because of the file size/quality differences? 3 pound difference seems quite a lot if that is the case.

It'd be cool if they (or anybody) released .wav versions of some of the individual guitar/vox drum tracks for remixes.

I'm looking forward to this, provided it's not pap.

  5. That Bridge and Tunnel record is weird. The production made it quite unlistenable for me. The first 7" is great though. Awesome singalong bits, and the noodly guitar parts are superb. Love the vocals. Sounds like all of them sing, and I'm a sucker for boy/girl vocals.

The production is wierd. The only way I could describe it is that it sounds so 'separate'. Never at any point sounds fully live. I don't mind it so much on this album, but the EP Indoor Voices is even worse for me. I did actually find that unlistenable for the production purposes.

  6. I think I've had this amp for almost 2 years now. When I got it, it wasn't really working properly and about 6 months or so ago I took it down to see Dennis Marshall who fixed it up good and proper. It's quite a battered old thing (ripped tolex, bit of superficial rusting), but I'm goin to sort some of these issues soon. Despite this it has been restored to full working order by Dennis.

In case you didn't already know, Sound City were the company that preseded Hiwatt and were designed and built by Dallas Arbiter I believe. From what I've read, these amps were designed to be loud and clean, with minimal break up and this is exactly what it does. It's not a fender twinkly clean, but still a very nice different sort of tone nonetheless. This is the Mark IV version and has an active tone control circuit. It works well with a mild gain/clean boost in front of it, but will not be ideal for any ridiculous distortion.

I'm really just putting this out as a feeler to see if there is a market locally for something like this, as I'm looking to upgrade to something a bit more suited to what I'm playing. Pristine versions seem to go on ebay around the 450-550 mark and this one is in full working order, but has a quite a bit of cosmetic damage, so I'm open to offers.

I'm in the market for either a vintagey single channel head (JCM 800/JMP) or a non-metal dual channel (Orange Rocker/Thunderverb etc) and would definitely consider trades.

  7. Been messing about with some stuff in Reaper over the past few days and getting to grips with it. Mainly been applying EQ to drums etc. It is quite a modest recording set up we had, but it's given me a chance to put into practice some of the points people have mentioned here and on other threads (phase, EQ on snares etc)

It's the jargon busting that I think the hardest bit is. When I'm looking for something in particular I just click lots of things until i find it. There's always the undo button I guess.

What's the best way to mic up a guitar cab? Are there any free VSTs that are good (especially for guitar amp modelling)? I've had a shot of Guitar Rig in the past and it is okay - is there anything else that is more worthy of the investment?

  8. The North End - Joie De Vivre - Spotify - The North End by Joie de Vivre. The Promise RIng meets American Football. One of my favourite records of last year.

This is a cool record. I got into their EP wayy more. Just that dude whining away. Sundays breaks beautifully.

East/West by Bridge n Tunnel is something I'm getting into. We played with them last year in Glasgow, and they were mental. They are kinda gruff punk, but some crazy guitar lines and crap in there. Catchy too.
