  1. As other folks have mentioned, there are a few interesting cafes in and around the centre of town. At the moment, Kilau, Musa and Books & Beans spring to mind. I love visiting all three, for various different reasons (crepes/art/music; music/more of a sit-down meal; tasty soup/second-hand books). That said, I would whole-heartedly support a new venture on Union Street. good music + good food is a winner in my books. To stand out, and survive against the already-existent cafes, you'll need an angle that makes you different from all the others. So... what's your angle? P.S. best of luck
  2. Yeah, they're opening up Hillhead Halls for a little extra moolah apparently. Have a look at the other thread about this, in the Networking section. There is a contact email address for local bands.
  3. Do pubs close on Easter Sunday? (More specifically, Under the Hammer?) My mate reckons they do, I think they don't.
  4. In response to a couple of posts further up... No, there's not six stages - there are three stages, over two days. A couple of the stages change names. Not sure about Fiddle Stixx, but I know Bombskare are a pretty fun ska band. And finally, a HUGE congratulations to all those involved in organising this. it's definitely the biggest thing to happen to the Aberdeen music scene for a few years, and here's hoping it carries on for years to come. I, for one, can't wait for July to roll around!
  5. Surely it wouldn't be at the Ticketmaster stage on Monday if it didn't already have the full go-ahead? I'm actually getting really quite excited to find out who is definitely on the bill, and how many stages etc. According to the facebook page, the full line-up will be announced on Monday, so potentially many more acts than have already been rumoured
  6. In the other thread about this festival, in the Networking section, there is a thing about local bands. Seems like Drummonds and Tunnels will have some local band showcases, some involved will then be picked to play on one of the stages.
  7. This was just put on their Facebook page: Although a line-up is currently in circulation, Northern Lights Music Festival cannot confirm that this is in anyway representative of the actual festival line-up. However folks, the wait will soon be over as the full line-up will be announced this coming Monday, 18 April.
  8. Jewel in the Crown and Shabaaz are both pretty damn good. I think the BYOB place mentioned above might be Gurkha Kitchen, which isn't Indian, but supposed to be very good. And apparently a few of my friends felt quite ill after going to Spice Dabba, although I've never been there myself.
  9. I got all the way through the Iwrestledabearonce track and thought it was just a mediocre cover, with slightly off singing. Then I got to the screamy bit at the end, and almost spluttered my glass of OJ out of my nose with laughter. The War Pigs one is pish too. **EDIT** That Pink Floyd almost made me cry. But not in a good way.
  10. Think it's for charity. I believe I also saw The Shakedown Project on the line-up.
  11. Not sure, just stumbled across the Facebook page.
  12. Whilst looking up info on Northern Lights, I also discovered a wee indoor one-day festival being held in The Tunnels in August. Not on the same scale, but it still looks interesting and is probably worth heading along to. T Fest | Facebook
  13. No, I was made aware of the awards through a few posts on this very forum, and it was an open nomination process. They also posted somewhere about a forum they set up, can't find the post, but it's god-awful! http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/gigs-event-announcements/61979-scottish-music-awards.html http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/gigs-event-announcements/64403-only-3-weeks-left-industry-award-nominations.html
  14. Still more acts to be announced though. Apparently it will be multi-stage...
  15. http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/music-discussion/64758-seaton-park-festival-any-info.html
  16. Idlewild, Maximo Park, Futureheads, Madness, Twilight Sad, Xcerts and more I'm not caring so much about... Apparently all confirmed. Wow, I'm actually quite impressed and excited now.
  17. There's a thread about this looking for local acts in the Networking bit. To be honest, it would be cool to have a(nother) festival on our doorstep. Only time will tell if the line-up will be any good. Can't be worse than Free at the Dee, can it?
  18. doubt there'll be any camping since it's Seaton Park, but this could be really awesome if it's done well
  19. Really mixed line-up, this sounds like it could be awesome!
  20. To be honest, I reckon anything that celebrates Scottish music - especially something which seems to focus more on the smaller scale things - can't be a bad idea. Should we not be celebrating the fact that people are interested in Aberdeen music, rather than finding reasons to belittle it? (And I'm not just saying that because I'm nominated.) I nominated a couple of folk for things. Some got through, some didn't.
  21. Sorry; these are the folk from Aberdeen who are nominated, and the categories they are nominated in.
  22. They Polish guy with the hat? he took one look at me and my mates, said "Wow, you're all wearing glasses!", then disappeared off into the crowd...
  23. Agree totally with this. I'll be very interested to hear them in 6-12 months time, and see how they've progressed. There is some great burgeoning talent in Aberdeen right now (Foxhunting also springs to mind, to name but one more).
