  1. It did NOTHING for the music scene here anyway...absolutely nothing. Any industry types that I met took nothing seriously, were using it as a bit of a jolly and were all pricks that had no intention of paying any real attention. Good riddance I say.

  2. If anyone crosses the line enough times then yes, they will be permanently banned (and there are people that have been permanently banned - mostly spammers). The reason we are more reluctant to permanently ban people now is quite simply because there is no effective way of properly banning people permanently. Sure, we can ban them, but then if they are determined enough (and most of them are sadly) then they will simply re-register with another account using a different e-mail and IP address.

A temporary ban at least allows them to keep hold of their account and so makes them less likely to re-register, but at the same time prevents them from posting - at least for a time.

There is a handful of members (no, I'm not naming names) that are often getting close to the line (but not crossing it) and managing to piss a lot of people off. Some of these people have caused enough damage to the reputation of the web site that I am seriously considering banning them not because they have broken a specific rule, but because they are contributing absolutely nothing to the online community yet doing their best to undermine the web site's purpose.

I know for a fact that some people no longer post on this site purely because of these "trouble-maker" members. This saddens me and I'm considering doing something about sooner rather than later.

I can't believe there are people that would act like this...i mean imagine coming on here and undermining the websites main purpose such as talking about an avatar looking like female genitalia, or telling peoples band's are crap when alot of said band's are doing quite well or imagine undermining the purpose of Maxi telling people they're sucking corporate cock if they want to progress in the music world and not play shitty east end venues where there is saw dust on the floor and you leave your guns and knives at the door.

Im shocked that people could even think of it!

  3. *hides behind all the cleaning products under the sink*

He'll never find it there. :p

Only kidding, Neil. :) The boxsets are in their normal positions.

I've never noted the, "flaming vadge" thing before. I always just thought it looked like a burning (and all-seeing) eye. Which is what it is. Meh.

Has anyone else ever seen that bit in Family Guy where Sauron looses his contact lens? Rofl 2 da max.

    That bit slays!

  4. For me it's got to be albums from:

    Explosions In The Sky

    Aereogramme

    Do Make Say Think

    Bloc Party

    The Red Death

    Jimmy Eat World

    Shai Hulud

    Wheat

    Pelican

    Oceansize

    65daysofstatic

    Radiohead (hopefully)

    Sigur Ros

upCdownC (after checking them out recently, i liked what i heard a lot)

    Grails

    Meshuggah

    Dimmu Borgir

    Biffy Clyro

Christ, i'm sure i missed a few that i know are coming out but fuck me i'm going to be skint this year if all those bands tour to support those releases as well :(

Tut Tut...No Poison The Well or Every Time I Die on that list??

    o_O

  5. That's the classic P2P way. They prey on bands who are new and who are glad to get offered the gig. Then the band think they're ace because they get asked back after they sold 50 tickets the first time round, but can't understand why they don't get asked back after their second gig when they only sold 15 tickets and had to fork out the difference themselves. All their friends had already seen them and most of them had other plans or just didn't want to go see a band that weren't very good twice in one year, no matter how nice guys they are.

By this time the promoter has already booked the next bunch of mugs who are chuffed to bits to play a "paying" gig

Couldn't have said it better myself really.

To be fair I do think that newer bands nowadays do seem to want to "get out of town" too quickly. I STRONGLY feel you should wait till you're at least been playing shows for a solid year. Just too many bands aren't even into double figures before they start wanting to play out of their home city. Remember your home city is far more forgiving and will watch you grow. Whereas the guy in Perth who comes and ses you, thinks you're shit, will not easily give you another look.

For a good place to start playing shows in Glasgow, you should look at Rockers. Chances are you wont get paid BUT you wont have to P2P and you get a mix of people. You guys should get on a punk night.

IMO, for what it's worth though. wait until you have about 20 - 30 more shows under your belt before you head anywhere out of Aberdeen-shire.

  6. Even as an England fan I think it's pretty disgusting that Walter Smith has decided on this course of action. He was doing so well and Scotland were becoming quite a team to be feared again, well he was on the right path. I guess David Murray pays better than the SFA huh? The thing is that I agree with Spoonie. He has been there and done well at that place already.

  7. Let the staff worry about Maxi. He knows what would happen if he steps out of line. Besides, since when has the fear of ridicule ever been a good reason for not doing something?

I think this could be a good idea, and it would give bands a chance to talk about themselves and their performances in more depth. There's certainly no harm in giving it a try.

    hahaha...ohh you're the best man...the best! ahhhahahaha!!

  8. Or maybe because what they're doing isn't as spectacular and original as the press are making out?

Besides Camie's an avid gig-goer, I'm sure he's seen ES since they started 'blowing up'...

Yeah...err like Phil said. That's why Camie finds it strange...he has seen them play a few times here before the hype REALLY kicked in.

It's the usual bad apples from the usual suspects anyway. Boo fucking Hoo!

Oh yeah, I forgot, Kaddish are like so much more deserving of the attention huh? L O Fucking L!

  9. ou are always welcome at the club, but we do ask that you adhere to our door policy and house rules. People often ask us how tough it is to get in. We are an exclusive nightclub, and we do expect our clientele to reflect that. Here are a few tips:

    * Dress to impress, ok, designer jeans are welcome but trainers, tracksuits, work wear and scruffy dress are a no no.

    * Be respectful of our staff and performers

    * Don't try getting into the club drunk, or behaving in an inconsiderate manner.

    * Enjoy your evening with us but DO NOT drink too much, swear excessively or show aggression as this will only rob you of the pleasure which is in store for you.

    * We reserve the right to refuse admission where we deem appropriate.

Follow these simple instructions, and you'll have a great night - remember we want you in our club, not outside! Now you know what you need to do, we hope to see you soon! If you have any further questions, please email us, or telephone the club directly

Hence why when I drunkenly staggered up there form the moorings in an old Crass t-shirt and approached the door saying "fucking Drakes min yas min fucking get in" the bouncers punched me in the face and put me in a bin and invited people to come down from O'Henry's and touch my bum.

    "Was that a lie?"

  10. regardless of Lars' ability on drums, lets not forget he has co-written EVERY metallica song from Kill Em All Through to the black album (i.e. their glory period) except for Motorbreath, which is possibly a better accolade than ANY metal drummer on the planet.

Sure there are a thousand better technical drummer's out there with various levels of profiles, but at the end of the day, it's the SONGS that make a band worth listening to.

And '...Justice For All' and the black album were also fucking brilliant records, and they were a better live band in that era than they ever had been before. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and all that, but I think anyone who reckons they got "shit" after Puppets is suffering from a little bit of trying-hard-to-be-cool.

    That is a great post.

The thing is I love Lars' drumming. He is a great drummer and you only need to listen to AJFA to hear how good he can be. I think the Black album his drumming is so so tasteful and solid as he set out to do. I get something from his drumming anyway and to me, that's all that matters.
