  1. From what little I know, their management company is pretty much a total nobody "company" based in a basement flat in London. It's no surprise that they're going about things completely the wrong way - but ultimately, Estrella chose to be represented by them. I think that's why they're coming across so badly on here - most people can see right through what they're doing, so it's hurting them in the long run.

I dare say in time, Estrella will become Aberdeen's version of The Hedrons.

Is it even the band that's posting half of the rubbish press releases on here?

Im just picking you on one thing here. Some of the best record labels and management companies have started in bassments, bedrooms, garages etc. This ISNT what makes them a bad management company.

  2. your probably right but as ben pointed out i usualy fail MISERABLY at these sorts of things ;)

Bob where are you when i need you....???

Ya see, you took it well. :D

Im sure Tom's response about me in that thread made a few people chuckle.

Word is that my post about the "cross section of people" on this site amused a few mods but they just knew that it had to closed due to the chaos i would've induced. I'm so mischevious..."I'M MAD ME!!!" *eats own poo to prove it*

  3. I don't understand this at all. That thread had 3 or 4 pages of almost all positive comments about MMW in it.

    Oh really?

Almost all? Read it again recently have you?

I cant really be arsed getting into this one again. Like I say, it doesn't affect us really. You're precious about stuff that I couldnt really care much less about and vice versa.

This is an argument that will go on forever and the actions always end up speaking the loudest anyway.

  4. Is there any reason not to?

Surely people are happy when local bands get coverage in the local press after years of bitching about it not happening?

We were happy, of course we were.

Thing is, what's the point really in telling everyone on here. I know it comes back to that argument about "attitude towards aberdeen-music.com" and all that but the proof is all there. I bet you think we should've announced that we were playing Taste of Chaos again this year but there was just no point. It was someone else that announced it for us and even she didnt put our name in the thread because she knew the shitstorm that would follow. She doesnt even know us and hasn't seen us as a band and still knew what saying our name in a thread would cause! So you see, whats the point in trying to make people on here proud of you. It wont happen. People GENERALLY dont like to see their peers get on and do well. Sad but true.

  5. Do you know them?

    Have you worked with them?

Have you spoken to them before?

The people who i know who work with them find them to be decent guys trying to do what they enjoy, and also from what ive been told they have a managment company who maybe dont always know whats best for the band, so where are you getting your information that they have a bad attitute? Where in that post were they being smug about being in the paper, i seem to remember weapon being in the paper and not getting abuse, not that im saying they should have im just pointing that out.

As for The Needles good on them in a big fan and i love the album :)

I dont recall us telling people on here that we were in the paper though.

I'm not agreeing that Estrella were acting smug or whatever...just making it clear that yes we have been in local press a few times but haven't mentioned on here. Not to the best of my knowledge anyway.

  6. i'd probably really like estrella if they weren't shite.

    MODS...MOOOOODDDDSSSS!!

Come on, there is perfectly good (if somewhat heated) debate in this thread. Need for that comment.

If me, Dan, Tom etc had said that...we would be suspended for a week and the post deleted.

    Sort it out!!

    :)

  7. You are an idiot then. When did I mention selling tickets? What strikes me as odd is that this band, and many others like them, win battle of the bands competitions when they are almost always glorified cover bands. Whenever decent, original and entirely accessable bands enter, they're never successful. C'mon dude, it's a well known fact that these competitions are totally corrupt and promoted by people with only on their minds.

    Amen to that.

  8. Absolutely spot on. Of course though, what I post here is nothing but my opinion and only mine, so I don't feel the need to pre-empt everything I say with that disclaimer. Some people just don't understand this fact.

Yes, and that's why I do put that disclaimer in. Like you say, on this site, misunderstood. If you're all nice and sit on the fence with everything you dont get bothered but as soon as you say something that ruffles some feathers or you even dare to bring what experience you have had in a band that say has worked harder and experienced more than the majority on here, you get raped!

  9. I actually agree with Tom if i'm honest.

I don't agree on the stuff he has said about Estrella. I know who they are but I dont think I've ever seen or heard them.

I do, however agree on what he has said about battle of the band contests. IN MY OPINION, they are a joke and are kind've seen by the majority of the industry that way. They tend to conjure up images of bands that are pretty desperate for recognition of the wrong kind and/or on the way out. Often I feel it's bands who are misguided that play these things.

Before I get jumped on (who am I kidding, of course I will!) I would like to point out that I realise not all bands are in music with the intentions to try and get somewhere etc etc and do find these contests fun. Peace to that.

Most bands that do win these things are generally never heard of again or never break out of their own comfortable surroundings.

  10. Next week: I've also got cancer, rabies, AIDS, and pnuemonia if you're thick enough to believe what you read on the Ascension board.

Best of luck on your big upcoming gig in Inverness with 'Clearer The Sky', 'Ashes Of Pale', 'Silence Kills All', and 'Absence Of Presence', I look forward to the two page spread in the NME.......

Aww thanks man. Didn't have you down for an NME reader.

Yeah Inverness is cool. Seem to be building a nice little fanbase there. They are all really cool up there and we sold quite a bit of merch. Good luck on making your next cassette recording and posting it to some far flung eastern european country...no, seriously. Good luck with that one.

  11. Yes, you are.

On topic - anyone who says 'the bomb' to describe something good, and people who overuse all forms of Americanisation: eventually it will provoke me into a 'Michael Douglas in Falling Down' type killing spree using the closest available items of equipment manufactured by Black & Decker.

Ooohhh, dont do that pet, you want to watch that blood pressure hmmm? Seriously though...when you dying?

    :D

  12. Good for you for doing so well, but I can't believe you're trying to say you've never had any good from this site at all. As I recall, Weapon started from two already pretty well established bands, are you saying that Quik and Point never got any benefit either? Would Quik have even known Point? Would you have ever known Ross? Or what about any other band in Aberdeen? Have we not helped anyone? This site has never ever claimed to be able to guide anyone's path to stardom, in fact it is quite often pointed out on here that you have to do far more than post a few messages. But what about the bands just starting out, asking for advice on playing their first gig, looking for opinions on what pedals to use etc etc? You can't do that on Myspace. But they're not mutually exclusive. This site is hopefully a good resource, one of many available. What this place should be is 'people in bands helping people to be in bands'. We don't need anyone coming on purely to express the frankly sneering attitude that they no longer need this help. You should be here showing people what they should be doing, not laughing because they're not.

    Now. About that pint...

Err...The bit you havent quoted me on kinda addresses what you have said in your reply.

I wasn't sneering. I'm allowed my opinion on what it means to me and im also entitled to express that as I see fit to who I like. I also said that the site was better some time ago. Your post was kind of redundant, but hey, it was your opinion so...peace. :)

  13. I think you get out what you put in, these days you put shit in so you get shit out. Fair enough, that's up to you and obviously MMW feel they don't need this site anymore. You all seem to have a fairly low opinion of it anyway.

I seem to remember you thought the site was pretty useful when MMW were starting out though, both for recruiting band members and getting the name out there.

Not saying the site will make or break a band, that's obviously nonsense, but hopefully bands can use this site as a bit more than "light entertainment". It's a resource, one of many that can be used alongside myspace etc to get a local profile for a band. Would MMW be where they are now if they hadn't built up a decent local profile first?

To be honest with you, I do believe it pretty much had nothing to do with this site. Ross gave us some awesome shows in earlier days and that made lots of people see us that wouldnt have normally so...coupled with our hard work and Jamesy's networking, it began to go from there.

I dont actually think we ever REALLY found the site of that much use and perhaps tried to see if it was so I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to. To be honest, the creation of our myspace page was when things really statred motoring for us in an internet sense.

To be fair, the main reason we post up here when we have any significant news is, if im straight with you, is a morbid curiosity to see what shit storm or deafening silence (its on or the other) greets said news!

I will admit that it's a pretty cool site and the intent of it for the most part is good and i'm sure some people do get alot of use out of it. It did use to have better days quite a few years ago but now it doesnt seem to. Wether that's me or the site that's changed I'll never really know. Quite why you're so precious about it is beyond me.

  14. To be fair Munky...Ousy has hardly put his brain in gear before speaking. Don't worry. This Website will have VERY little if any bearing on the way your band develops musically and with a fanbase, especially if you work your myspace right.

If you want my advice, which you have asked for in person before when we had a chance meeting, use this site as light entertainment, nothing else.

Thats my t'uppenceworth. Take heed or not.
