  1. There is some class stuff on Polyvinyl - add Matt Pond PA and Saturday Looks Good To Me to that list. My favourites are probably Domino, Mute and Morr Music.
  2. I wasn't being a smart ass, just trying to be helpful! I would like to bring the other Maps to Scotland sometime. Not the Nashville ones...
  3. Difference is that there was talk that the other Maps had signed to Mute.
  4. Yeah, they could hire a bus and take their mates with them, but that's not doing anyone any good. All you're doing is expecting your mates to dig deep once again in support of your own rock star ambitions. I don't want to piss on anyones grand plans or dent their enthusiasm, but it's really not the smartest idea i've ever heard. If you do it and it works, fair play to all involved.
  5. It's really good but there's already a similar band down south using that name. It confused me anyway. Just a heads up before you get too attached to the name. Your track is very good all the same.
  6. For some weird reason (probably the Scopitones messageboard) David Gedge of the Wedding Present made the list at around no 21, so it wasn't all bad.
  7. As other people have said, a night of purely Aberdeen bands probably won't work in Glasgow or Dundee. Dundee wouldn't be "easier" than Glasgow, it's hard to get a crowd when you live in the place, there's no magical groups of people who will turn up to a gig because they're starved of live music. Think about it this way - if four bands from Stirling or Perth or indeed Dundee that you knew nothing about played a show in Aberdeen, can you seriously and in all sincerity say you'd go along out of curiousity? The best bet would be to arrange gig swaps, or maybe even do a four band bill on a "mini tour" over four nights. One band from Aberdeen, one from Dundee, one from Glasgow and one from Edinburgh, each organising a show in their hometown. I'd never risk putting on a bill made up completely of out of town bands and then expect to break even.
  8. He was 48. This is very sad news indeed. I love the Go Betweens, sadly never got to see them.
  9. I don't think anyone's ever got anywhere simply through playing T-Break. I'd imagine it helps to be known to the judges in the first place. At the end of the day no matter which 48 bands are chosen, the other 952 will moan about it. It's the same every year.
  10. Adem was indeed awesome both times this weekend. Our drummer Chris joined in at Adem's Assembly on the Sunday but i missed it as i was seeing Northern Alliance at last.
  11. Might be? You can do better than that!
  12. If anyone gets tickets for this and comes down early, there's a whole load of fringe events on the Friday night in various venues around Dundee. The A Forest and Otterley will be playing at the Rep Theatre Cafe Bar and we'd like people to come along.
  13. I was at the Perth show tonight and it was fantastic! Wasn't too keen on Harem Scarem on their own, but they did work really well with BPB. The drummer was Alex Nielsen (i think that's how it's spelt) who is in Scatter and has played with Alisdair Roberts, and is rather amazing.
  14. There's not been a volume 2 of any of these compilations yet, i don't know if there was ever meant to be either. I'm not sure if Rough Trade are doing them through Mute anymore as the last Counter Culture was through V2, that may have something to do with it? The Indiepop Vol 1 compilaton is great too. It used to be a fiver in Fopp, maybe not anymore.
  15. It's excellent, even at pretty much full price as i paid when it came out.
  16. I've bought a ridiculous amount of stuff from the Virgin clearout in Perth this week: Can - Tago Mago (Remaster) Godspeed... - Lift Your Fists... Memory Band - s/t Stephen Malkmus - Face The Truth Richmond Fontaine - Post To Wire Bonnie Prince Billy - I See A Darkness + Ease Down The Road Beck - Guero (Limited Edition CD/DVD set) Tanya Donnelly - Whiskey Tango Ghosts Blonde Redhead - Misery Is A Butterfly Sleater-Kinney - The Woods Damien Jurado - On My Way To Abscence Laura Viers - Year Of Meteors Six Organs Of Admittance - School of the Flower Hem - Eveningland and have also bought the new Flaming Lips album and just received "Liars Exit" by Bikini Atoll from eBayland. Oh, and a legit download of the new Pretty Girls Make Graves. I am going to hell. PS whoever bought the Research album, good call - i love it!

  18. Yeah, though it might come down to the time we have to record it in the end! We made a list and it appears we have 21 songs to choose from, which seems like a good start, thought the newer ones are a wee bit different to the old ones. We've started bringing our old keyboards to practice and we've worked out how to use the groovebox.
  19. I know about boomkat but not subscribed. I tend to go with the Norman records mailout and the ILX boards these days. Our record is coming along. It's written! We're recording a chunk of it in May then seeing what else we need, it may be a concise classic - 8 or 9 tracks. I've been listening to "Thriller" by Lambchop, "Rock Action" by Mogwai and "Nowhere" by Ride and i think they're all pointing the way (in terms of length). So no, we've not finished it yet.
  20. I think Team LG did some stuff on Twisted Nerve a couple of years back. I've been meaning to check out their album. That and the Nathan Fake one. You may all like Ms. John Soda too.
  21. Oh, and make sure it's on a weekend so i can come and see them!
  22. I like "Tiger, My Friend". I am looking forward to the new record. Any plans to bring them up north, Graeme?
  23. I've given up trying to follow the whole thread as i'm tired so i appologise if anyone else has covered these 2 things: 1) Lemon Tree booker - apparently now does the booking for Perth COncert Hall, thus his move down here, and no longer does the Lemon Tree. That's what i was told anyway! 2) Postering in Dundee - there are two forms. The free service is for A4 posters to be placed on one of a small number of two sided boards dotted around the city centre. They've taken a couple away due to building work though. It's just a case of handing them in and allowing plenty of time before the gig for them to go up. I usually try and hand them in at least 2 weeks before as it can take a week for them to go up. You can also pay to have larger posters (A0) put up around the city on the big boards, which there are many more of. Its not something i've ever done, but i know people who have.
