  1. Wavelabs meta normalise can use rms instead of peak values, so it's processing on a more accurate reflection of loudness. I imagine nero's normalise function probably works using peak values which won't take into account perceived volume. But considering the possible tonal changes between tracks, and the probable need for some gentle eq as well as gain adjustments to make the tracks sit better, it's one of these things best done by hand.
  2. there are a load of swf decompilers porgrams that'll do that e.g sothink.com does one
  3. use the utility g-spot to tell you which codec is being used by the clip then install/re-install codec and reboot

  7. check out the new photo gallery at www.academyshoppingcentre.co.uk, they have a monthly competition to win a 50 bar tab at The Hog's Head if you're in any of the photos taken..
  8. On a purely 'number of releases' basis, Chris Cowie would have to be Aberdeen's most prolific musician, with over 150 records out internationally, and his music licensed on possibly many hundreds more of compilations and mix cd's. My favourite story of his was when as a publicity stunt for a forthcoming mix cd his label were releasing, he hired a helicopter to take a set of decks, dj, and some journos to the top of ben nevis to record 'the highest mix cd ever'.
  9. Yep tis true. I saw an email on the nemis egroup about an American record label looking for them with a view to licencing their old stuff and called Mike C and Iain Slater (who is nowadays tour sound engineer for Keane) and they're moving things forward I believe.
  10. you generally connect it to a mixing desk, though you could use it in line with equipment, as long as the equipment is operating at line level e.g keyboards, drum machines, cd player whatever. The way I used it was as 4 seperate effects via auxilliary sends. So I could have say 2 different reverbs, one plate one hall, and 2 different delays, one long and dubby, one short bright slapback. Then I can add these effects in varying proportions using the aux sends from the mixer on to the different instruments in the mix. It can also be used as inserts, its got dynamics, eq, modulation (e.g phasing/flanging) filters and vocoder effects that can be put over an instrument.
  11. Think of it like this . .(not aimed at you personally but at the readership in general) 2004 . . another year that nobody paid attention to the dull scratchy uninspired bedroom demos . . a year of student poverty and social underachievment 2005 . . another year of low key gigs, garbled cassette-fi demos.. and then a chance glimpse of some bargain multi effect action on the web . . a glimmering shining punchy set of new recordings, with a now sound, a fashionable sound.. a&r offices in london, NY, LA resounding to the shimmering tones of your musical opus, phone lines ringing red hot! gigs around the UK, around the globe, deals signed and album selling like hot cakes 2006 relaxing in a penthouse with model on arm, gold disk on the wall, limo outside, you look back wistfully to a chance encounter on aberdeen-music, "ah that digitech studio quad4 for 150, the best money I ever spent"

    Korg Trinity

synth workstation good condition 500 Read all about it in a 2 part review in sound on sound magazine http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1995_articles/dec95/korgtrinity.html http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1996_articles/jan96/korgtrinity.html
  17. one thing goNorth illustrates to me every year is how far behind most Aberdeen bands are compared with the bands playing at it from down South and abroad. Originality of music, look and presentation, sense of contemporary musical taste and just plain ol' cool are pretty lacking in the locals. Sure there are some good musicians but the overall package i.e star quality seems to be thin on the ground.
  18. My best wishes for a quick recovery
  19. 2nd last thing I had released was a nice 12" vinyl release. Even amongst dance music ( it was an acid jazz thang btw) vinyl is gettin rarer, lots of dj's are swapping over to digital. Never had an album out, but a few pish rave tunes I did years back did sneak on to the odd double cd/12 ministry of sound type compilation that quickly (and correctly ) dissappeared into bargain bins everywhere.
  20. the nord electro is wicked, very gigable too : very light to carry plus has drawbar-ish controls for true organ afficianados. The best digi hammond though is undoubtably the korg cx-3 (new version) The korg trinity also has some very good organ sounds (plus loads more obviously being a workstation)
  21. you might want to consider involvement in mefm, it apparently will be back on air in may, one good thing about radio is that you can play a super eclectic mix without worrying about 'holding the dancefloor' or such considerations
  22. I'd be looking at 150ish for the digitech quad4 120 or so for the boss sx700 60 for the zoom 1204 45 for alesis nanoverb All gear is in good nick, plus come with correct power pack + cables
