  1. Armellodie On Tour : Travel By Train Launched in 2007 Glasgow rock ‘n’ pop cavalry Armellodie Records have steadily manifested into one of the most exciting independent labels in the UK with a constant flow of critically acclaimed releases from an eclectic roster of artists. And so with all this talent in tow who wouldn’t want to show it off, August 2012 will see an elite squadron of Armellodie’s troops taking to the rail lines and steam-rolling their way around bonnie Scotland, stopping off only to shower, shit, shave and shebang. Catch them in a compromising position near you. Tunnels, Aberdeen Thursday 9th August 2012 - 7:30PM - £5:00 PM Le Reno Amps Imagine your favourite bands were pumped full of steroids before being cooped up together in a small zoo enclosure. Every day the zoo-keeper visits them and throws them cuts of high-quality steak which has been marinated in same-said steroids. The bands go feral and fuck like bunnies until they produce offspring. Le Reno Amps sound like the music the zoo-keeper writes on her days off. She volunteers once a week at the local Hospital's WRVS shop. It isn't much but it gets her out of the house and things haven't been the same at home since her mother died. This tour marks the only shows LRA have and will be playing in 2012, catch them while you can. The Hazey Janes October 2011 saw the return of The Hazey Janes flaunting their timeless sound with new album, The Winter That Was, showcasing a band that have grown immeasurably in stature during their somewhat enforced hiatus from the public eye. Pumped full of pop vitamins like Big Star on steroids, the Hazey Janes are firing on all cylinders, touring every nook-and-crannie and smashing it every night. You best believe! Chris Devotion & The Expectations Fresh from a summer of festivals Chris Devotion & The Expectations - or CD/EX if urgency is your prerogative – are fond of a little savage rock’n'roll and a pert frolic with the classic pop song. Coming together in perfect harmonious, lyrical and mathematical order for an approximate running time of 2 and a half minutes, these songs have the power to align planets. Part swaggering hubris, part relationship-confessional, these songs remind you of the joyful existence of your reproductive organs, while at the same time the bitter knowledge that you’ve been dumped. Cuddly Shark Anarchic and free spirited, Colin works in IT and drives a Volvo but we all know that’s just a smokescreen, and one time Ruth punched Jason’s mum. The threesome we know and love as Cuddly Shark return to the stage and to our stereos this year with the release of their sophomore record, ‘The Road To Ugly’ looming. Brimming with punk attitude and spilling over with melodic brilliance Cuddly Shark will never have an ounce of pretentious hip fat on them; it’s all muscle, come and have a feel at these peck peck peck peck pecks. 2. Hello ye faithful audiophilopians, Introducing Armellodie Records, a rock co-operative, label, stable, collective, whatever, based in but not exclusive to bonnie Scotland. To describe it neopolitan style, it's a chocolate slab of leftfield rock, a strawberry layer of ice-cold indie and a vanilla scoop of the avant garde. We've been bubbling under for a wee while, now it's time to get frothy! We have troops, strong, muscular, and sonically advanced on the frontline; Super Adventure Club, The Scottish Enlightenment, Kill The Captains, Cuddly Shark, Le Reno Amps and Thirty Pounds of Bone. This is just a wee notice to say hello - check out the fresh-out-the-box goss at the Armellodie website where all releases are streaming in the 'Armography' and if you fancy getting our bulletin delights fired straight into your inbox then read our first news letter here and sign up for future mailshots. For now tho, thanks millions. Aw the best, Al

"Cuddly Shark" our eponymous debut album is out today, including the sma'-shit singles, The Punisher of IV30, Woody Woodpecker and The Sheriff of Aspen Bay plus a whole host of other riff- busting tunes. You can buy the record on CD from the freshest faced indie in Scotchland, Armellodie Records: Armellodie Records - Cuddly Shark If digital is your thing then the usual myriad of Mp3 shops should be stocking our wares as of noo. Here's the link for iTunes: Cuddly Shark by Cuddly Shark - Download Cuddly Shark on iTunes Thank you for your support. The album's been getting some great feedback, none more so than from our faithful allies, Subba-Cultcha, who not only gave all our singles accolades but have now pretty much nailed what we're all about in this album review. Big thanks to those Subba folks! Cuddly Shark - Subba-Cultcha Review Cuddly Shark - Cuddly Shark Some of Glasgows freshest faces release their debut album and its pretty spectacular Cuddly Shark, upon first listen, are one of the rarities a music journalist is given a band you have never heard of that you actually want to keep listening to. Upon second, third and fourth listen my initial reaction is not wrong. Hailing from Glasgow, which has a very tried and test amazing music scene, Cuddly Shark are two boys and a wee bonnie lass, and they create brutal, solid rock n roll that is sometimes like Fugazi and sometimes like Weezer. And sometimes, its like nothing and no one else. But it is always good. A particular highlight of the album, other than the simplistic but intriguing dynamics of it all, are the lyrics. One of my favourites off of the album 12 Months, has the vocalist (I dont know which of the two blokes it is, I think both plus girl all sing) shout-singing I need sex because Im a perv and I stare at girls because Im a perv theres nothing quite like brutal honesty and self reflection. In fact, it usually makes for awesome song writing when done in a self degrading not-poetic-at-all way. Another favourite of mine from the album is Whiteoaks, which is very reminiscent of Weezer having one of their inspired pop moments. In fact, imagine Weezer crossed with Pavement, but definitely with Rivers on vocals. The lovely melodies, the simplistic and catchy riffs topped with the sweet sounding vocals make a very good song indeed. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum is The Sheriff of Aspen Bay which is more brutish a la Fugazi and co than it is Weezer pop. The Sheriff of Aspen Bay captures you in its frenzy, carries you on a torpedo ride pausing slightly for a little break down section and then carries right on and spits you out. In fact, the same could be said of the awesome Bowl of Cherries. However, they do meet in the middle and make this a very cohesive, well thought out album. Another personal favourite from the album, Woody Woodpecker, take the harsh elements as well as the pop sound and moulds the two together to make a near flawlessly executed piece of rock n roll. All in all, Cuddly Sharks self titled debut is very impressive indeed and they once again prove that the Scots (mostly) know how to make music. **** By: Sara Curtis

  5. Armellodie & Cafe Drummonds Present... CUDDLY SHARK Cuddly Shark is a do-it-yourself, plug in and play Rock McCombo. Idiosyncratic lyricism and odd anti-melodies combined with foot down pedal-to-the-metal performances. Forming in early 2006 the band consists of two boys and one girl, Callin' Colin on guitar and vocals, Jables Sexual on drums and Hoofbert on bass guitar. Born and bred in the bonnie highlands of Scotland the band found themselves magnetically drawn to the rain-soaked musical hotspot that is Glasgow to hone their sound. Things seemed to twitter along very quickly and Cuddly Shark found themselves with a bunch of songs with winning names like The Punisher of IV30, referring to the Elgin post-code where the band members grew up and if pushed could tell you a horror story or two! Cuddly Shark will never have an ounce of pretentious hip fat on them and their live shows have seen favourable comparisons made to Husker Du, Minor Threat, Ween, Fugazi and The Presidents of the USA. Arty and angular, Cuddly Shark possess some sharp hooks and a dark post-punkintensity - like Birthday Party being thrown down some stairs with WireSubba-Cultcha like what Young Knives would have sounded like if they had traded geekdom for good old fashioned fist fighting as children. The Plastic Ashtray like an ADD teen with a bottle of Sunny D in one hand and an AK47 in the other. Is This Music? they have the punk strut of The Stooges, The Cure and The Cramps ... the musical expanse of Fugazi and the humour of early Roxy Music. Daily Record a likeable, quirky diversion from the serious world of mass-market music. The Skinny KILL THE CAPTAINS Kill the Captains came to be in 2006 as a rough-hewn psychedelic jam band, nasty by all accounts. However slowly but surely these four buxom comrades refined their drones into the energetic pop bullets on display here. These lean mean tunes are unique, and yet totally unforgiving for being steeped in the bands shared love of 1990s American Alternative music, Shoegaze and Krautrock. Since forming, Kill the Captains have been relentlessly gigging in and around their native homeland and have such developed into a ferocious live act with a burgeoning reputation in Sheffield and beyond, they even host their own popular monthly club-night, Mutiny in the city. Favourable comparisons have been made to Sonic Youth, Animal Collective and Les Savy Fav to name but a few, and the band cite Pavement, My Bloody Valentine, Slint, Pere Ubu, Television, Can and Neu amongst their many influences so hopefully youll get the gist of what its all about and get onboard. "Their debut EP shows that they have less in common with fellow Sheffield acts Arctic Monkeys or Long Blondes, but rather names from across the Atlantic such as Sonic Youth, but with an English twist. Opening track Bottom Lip is like hitching a ride with The Strokes after they've necked a truckload of psychotropic drugs, careering along majestically before taking several odd little melodic detours - thrilling and disturbing in equal measures." MUSICOMH Support comes from local favourites, ONION TERROR. Needing no introduction Onion Terror sound sleazy, dirty and foul and all the better for it. For those of you that know Scott well and are concerned, you can email me at lerenoamps@hotmail.com Kind Regards, Al www.lerenoamps.com
