  1. Jennee's organ sounds are vaguely prog-y, and there are certainly elements of straight up classic rock in Colin's riffing on Hazards, but it is in no way a prog album. Not even close. It's a very British folk-rock record. And a goddamn amazing one! Pierre - just get the new album and give it a chance. It is everything you would hope for in a Decemberists record.
  2. Last night's set: Down by the Water Rox in the Box Calamity Song ......We Both Go Down Together The Engine Driver The Bagman's Gambit The Soldiering Life Los Angeles, I'm Yours Rise to Me January Hymn July, July! Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) The Rake's Song O Valencia! This is Why We Fight -- The Island June Hymn Seriously excited for the Barrowlands gig.
  3. I found it hard to believe that an article with three exclamation marks in its headline could be worthwhile, but it is worth a read.
  4. For me, it was spending lots of time with my two best pals, with a common goal. Touring hard and seeing the rewards (increased fanbase, bigger exposure) is a great thing to share with your friends.
  5. Blackpool just denied a stonewall pen. Some pretty bizarre officiating going on
  6. Jup, and their Ham and Mustard ones. Tasty!
  7. I just have an in-built hatred for commentators with egos. Andy Gray is the king of them all; constantly making it about himself: 'Didn't I say he should have a pop?' or 'Yup, just like I was saying, he's had a pop' or 'when I was playing I would have had a pop'. And his imagined conversations drive me mental: 'Berba says "here you go Wayne, have a pop", and Wayne says "Thankyou very much", just like I thought he would'. I honestly haven't seen anything vaguely elucidatory (real word?) in his analysis either. Just a heap of squiggly lines and back-patting. Grade A fud, who has been shown up as a nasty little wanker.
  8. I am genuinely surprised...I always just kind of assumed that people had seen through his schtick a long time back.
  9. Am I reading this right...are people actually stating that they LIKE Andy Grays commentary? Good Lord, my finger is off the pulse, I thought his shit line in matey, imagined conversation and Primary Three analysis had been recognised as pish for years. GIRFUY you fat, sexist, thick Hun wank. Get back to pretending that youre English on some foreign cable sports channel someplace. Useless joke of a man.
  10. I would say that the nobbish ex g/f green-lit a whole heap of terribly un-funny commenting. I am not immune to a good bit of tongue-in-cheek sexism myself, but imo the whole ZOMG WIMMIN R DUMB got old pretty quickly. John W's I LIKE WIMMIN TO BE JUST THE RIGHT LEVEL OF SLOOT BECOZ IT'S A TURNOFF WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT SEX TOO MUCH BUT I DON'T LIKE PRUDES EITHER COS SHY GURLZ R SHIT comment made me enact a real-life facepalm.
  11. Gotta represent the retro bag too. None of this new, foil-type shit; heeavy duty brown paper was the mad-note.
  12. Sozzle and all that, but the last page or two have just been poor attempts!
  13. So....I log in and suddenly everyone has gone crazy with very unfunny anti-wimmin comments because Lesley's g/f acted like a nob? Hate to be a fun-sponge, but it got old pretty quickly!
  14. Nope, I hate using more than two cymbals when playing live. A third option for the studio would be nice, but it is WAY doen the list of financial priorities just now.
  15. Booked my winningest session of the year so far Very happy indeed, after the horrific downswong of last week. Gonne celebrate.
  16. I totally agree, I love a frantic 0-0 too. I just cringed at some of the first touches on display in that game, and the simple inability to find a teammate with a pass. Some Ricky Foster-esque short passing. I also need some goal-mouth action, and there was hee-haw. It struck me as an especially bad game of fitba, particularly given the participants. One of my top tree games of all time would be the Germany - Italy WC 2006 semi, where it was end-to-end for 119 minutes until Italy finally won.
  17. Cannot speak highly enough of Ichiban and Stravaigan 2 on Ruthven Lane IIRC.
  18. What game were you watching? I thought it was absolutely garbage for a fixture of that stature. Apart from Crouch putting one wide in the first half and Rooney forcing a decent save, there were fuck all chances and both sides cancelled each other out. Really, really terrible schoolboy errors displayed by both sides too; neither could hang onto possession for long enough to do any damage and it just got bogged down into a heap of huffing and puffing with no quality whatsoever. If it were an SPL game it would have been absolutely slated. Good defending from both sides, but terrible decision making and touch in attack. Totally anticlimactic.
  19. The Hazards of Love is one of the best albums I've ever heard, s I'm very glad that they didn't try and emulate it at all. The King is Dead is far more concise and, for want of a better word, poppy. I absolutely love it; it is already my second favourite Decemberists album. Massively influenced by REM and The Waterbioys, who are two of my all-time favourite bands. Peter Buck plays guitar on the second track, which bears a heavy resemblance to early REM. I can't listen to it without hearing Talk About The Passion: Rox in the Box lifts the melody from The Raggle Taggle Gypsy wholesale: It is a traditional folk song, covered by hunners of artists over the years. The Decemberists are honouring their debt to Celtic folk by taking it on! A quite brilliant record.
  20. The kit looks lovely Phil. If I find a bit of cash over the next couple of weeks I will be in touch!
  21. I just got IDed buying tobacco. I am 27. I cannot imagine how anybody could think I look like a teenager. Brag or beat?
  22. Dave, if you cast your mind back to our hazy youth of 2002-2004, you will in fact recall that all we ever did was watch fitba, that Jeff Buckley VHS and smoke. I fucken loved it! Our old Fountainhall Road flophouse (which, at various times housed the aforementioned Dave of Dedalus fame, local noisemonger John 'Scrotal Tunic' Cromar, Adam 'Sinister Waltz/Eric Euan' Cresser, Adam H de Barros/Magdalene Cox (now a damn fine DJ) and me) had an impressive array of Star Wars memorabilia. I didn't know what any of it was for, except for dispensing Pez.
  23. So it seems like I aim the only person in history who has never seen a Batman or a Superman. Never seen LOTR or any of the Star Wars eens either. Sheltered upbringing; I only watched snooker when I was young. Anyway, this got deleted the other day by an over-officious mod, so I thought the Ace-ic thread a suitable home. Left arm tit squash!
  24. Pics would be good. If it is a nice kit, they certainly wont do any harm! Get piccies on here by uploading your image to imageshack or equivalent, and then hitting the INSERT IMAGE button which is the second icon from the right in the QUICK REPLY section.
