Christianity's basic message (on a personal, if not an organisational one), is of peace and love. Thou shalt not kill. Love thy brother. Yada yada yada. I don't really see how that clashes with my belief in hardcore, of community and unity. I accept that many evils are done in the name of "God", but I think a lot of people get so tied up in that, they forget the basic "good" message it preaches.

I also fucking hate the holier-than-thou (so to speak!) attitude many in the Hardcore community have to outsiders or anyone who doesn't conform to their rules. "You can't be hardcore, cos you believe in God" seems a ridiculous statement to me.....

Taht album is great, and they were about the most brutal band I've ever SEEN in Kef - I thought Beecher woyuld be the better band on the night, but Norma DESTROYED. It were ace.

In a similar vein - I can't really recommend Scarlet enough - oddly only priced 6.99 in HMV right now! Bargain!

I tried again to listen to it, but half way down King Street I became so enraged by it's blinding rubbish-ness, that I hurled my headphones to the ground, tripping a little old lady to the ground as I did so (she broke her hip, later dying of complications). No, really, it's terrible. And I used to like this band......

Gurewitz is a cunt...."stupid, wannabe-punk-rock-old-guy". Buys and sells bands like meat nowadays. I still wanna hear "Error.." though....

It just kinda undermines some of the spirit of the music, dontcha think? Its a major lable appropriating the smaller labels "cool" factor in order to sell more records. You're right, it's great that bands like Nora, ETID, Bleeding Through and Scarlet will be more popular, but the deal MAY come at a price, as once the majors are in there, they WILL be able to exert pressure on the smaller label to sign different acts - eg, Universal or Roadrunner want to pick up a band, but want to release it through one of their "cool" labels, and slap the Ferret/Trustkill stamp on a sub-par release, to shift more "unit".

I guess I'd just rather music was made, distributed and sold by people who ACTUALLY LIKE IT.

Not content with devouring hardcore fave Ferret, major-indie behemoth Roadrunner has now inked a deal with Trustkill to licence their output outwith the US. Roadrunner used to be ace, but I can't help feeling this is a bad thing.....

Hmmm. RATM, Appetite For Destruction and The Black Album formed my cornerstones of rock when I were but a lad. From there, I ventured forth to heavier stuff with Carcass, Pantera and Sepultura, and I still LOVE those bands.

And of course, Rock N Roll showed the way, with the Wildhearts, Almighty, Kerbdog, Supersuckers, Rocket From tha Mutherfuckin' Crypt, Backyard Babies, ZEKE and the Ramones showing me how to rock the fuck out.

Godflesh, Ministry and Pitchshifter showed me a more mechanical way, and Sick Of It All, Shelter and Vision of Disorder were the first hardcore bands I loved. I admit to a dalliance with Nu-metal (The first Korn album is a classic), and there are even a few Limp Bizkit albums kicking about (none finer dumbed down rap-rock-pop). Deftones are still my favourite band ever.

Over the last coupla years its been the hardcore stuff thats been the most interesting (Converge, Scarlet, American Nightmare etc) but my mind is open to new country (Ryan Adams is a star, but his recent stuff is a bit poor), hip hop (love the Atmosphere record, and Wu Tang have long been a favourite), and some acoustic stuff like Tom McRae.....

I don't think I'll really ever go back on any of the stuff I've liked (hell, I'm 25 now, and still listen to the records I bought aged 15 regularly), so my parents hope that it was all "a phase" is all but lost. I probably temper my tastes a little ( I rarely return to Obituary), and theres a fine line between beautiful noise and just plain NOISE, but hell, it's all been fun!

The mystery band are possibly Viking Skull. If so, it should be the Switchblades.....

No, but I'm rockin' the SLSK pretty hard at the mo, so I'll give em a whirl.....

See, I don't like "Best of" or "Until the Ink" either, but Vanity seems just right. I think it was the primary school lyrics and melodies that put me off the new one - something you seem to like as "stripped down". Fair enough, but honestly, in my opinion, I haven't heard a worse album for quite some time!

Atreyu - its growing on me more and more - yeah, its melodic, poppy metal, but when its that good, why complain! (You check out The Bled yet Ben?

Both pleasing albums in my opinion. 18V doesn't compare to Vanity though I must admit.

Due to his hatred of the current "trendy" state of "hardcore", with these two bands being the epitomy (sp?) of said scene....

As you like Vanity, I have to insist you get Vision of Disorders "Imprint" - the finest metal/hardcore crossover album ever.....

A thread title almost GUARANTEED to have Jonny Lucifer convulsing with rage....Anyhoo...

Two of the hottest contenders for the "screamo" (goddamn thats a horrible "genre" title) crown, and both release albums within weeks of each other.

Atreyu - more melodic than its predecessor, and not QUITE as good. Still enjoy the album a lot, a melodic metal album though and through, but it does clearly have its sights on the mainstream. Think it'll be a grower, but not going to displace "Suicide Notes..." too quickly.

Eighteen Visions - Obsession. Utter, utter rubbish. "Vanity" was clearly a fluke.....

So, yay Atreyu, boo 18V. Thoughts?

Skyscraper's "Superstate" continually creeps back to my stereo after being forgtten fr months on end - a cracking britrock album that holds its own against Troublegum and Pure....

And Kerbdog's "On The Turn" is simply one of the finest albums ever made, yet I still forget all about it for months at a time....
