  1. It's more of a tech demo than a game trailer.

Where the fuck is the gameplay? (not like it would matter to many people).

The game's still 6 months away, thats just the first teaser trailer, i'm sure there will be a shitload more (including gameplay) when they have more to show and its nearer to the release date.

I'm not huge on the GTA games, but that does indeed look fucking awesome. If the ingame looks anything like that i shall be muchly impressed.

  2. Oh... rass gets his facts wrong, Analysts are expecting Sony to drop the price of the console by $100 in Oct due to cheaper parts and design simplification. Also in an attempt to stay ahead of Xbox who hasn't dropped their price a year on.

I've spent too much time talking about this fucking console, theres one under my telly now, i can go and.... read aberdeen-music on it.. or something :p

  3. You havn't looked at your PS2 pile since launch?? Thats..oooohhh... 5 days? Just wait till the summer games drought and you want to play some PS2 games........

Yeah, and if that is the case, that will be fine, as all my favourite games are completely compatible with the console, so i shall have much fun, or i might go and do something else, time will tell i guess.

Oh, Price drop.... Sony announced a worldwide pricedrop of $100 for PS3 in October.

  4. It isn't completely backwards compatable, and I'd be surprised if they actually release a firmware upgrade to increase the PAL model's support to near complete.

Ok, in the US it's 98% compatible, i stand corrected.

Looks like you'll have to hook up the old faithful PS2 were you to feel the need for another romp through Crazy Frog Racer 2.

At first i was incredibly worried about the lack of Backwards compatability, but even though i was balls deep in a rather engrossing campaign of God of War pre-launch, i havent even glanced upon the rather sad looking pile of PS2 games in the corner of the room.

It's not an excuse for sony by any means and it doesnt make it ok, but from my point of view i havent really noticed the loss.

  5. yup, across the pond they are completely backwards-compatable, they had to sacrafice the chip to transfer it to PAL i believe (something like that anyway), we'll get an upgrade 'at some point' tho.

Also on the PS3 side of things, you have less to fret about the price over there, at launch the console was only about 300 as opposed to 425. By the time you get over there it'll of been out for over 6 months and will likely be in line for a price cut.

  6. The annual black atom award (most metal) - black atom

We weren't there when this was awarded, so the 'most metal' award went to Element 106.

Well, i say that, but big pete from the moorings had the gnome. feck knows.

Considering that we've only played about 7 times in the past 12 months i for one would of felt quite silly indeed going up to collect said award.

  7. Dude, don't ask for gamers help! all you'll get is how shit the other guys console is because it's not what they have sitting under their telly.

I looked some stuff up for you tho dude, just the facts, no bias.

    a) Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is sceduled for Spring '08 on Xbox 360 and PS3 (and PSP, PS2 & DS if anyones remotely intrested), Couldnt find anything on whether one of the consoles had some kind of deal to get exclusive games, they'll probably be multi-format tho by the looks of it.

    b) God of War 2 is out on PS2 on 13/04 and will be backward compatible on PS3.

    c) Ok.

    d) Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Spiderman 3 are out on both consoles (now and 04/05 respectively). All i came across for DC (beside the Superman game which was released and slated to fuck last year) was something entitled "Untitled DC Comics MMO" on PS3, but theres not much news there other than it'll be out in the US only, i dunno if that includes Canada tho.

  8. Much more importantly, the matter is thus...

Do i go and pick up my new toy from Game at midnight tonight and risk getting mugged or something equally bad and causing me to loose my almost half a grand newborn.

Or do i leave it til tomorrow and get it first thing in the morning but be unable to sleep and generally rat on about it being in the shop and how i should of gone to pick it up....

  9. The Backward Compatibility List has been released by Sony...

    PLAYSTATION3

For anyone who missed out, the European ones will have Limited Backwards compatability, once bought, they will need upgraded to v1.60 of the firmware. Full back. compat. will come with further upgrades apparently but for now thats the lot.

No surprise as Guitar Hero isnt the slightest bit compatible... as there's nowhere to plug in the controller. Hopefully a USB adaptor will come out eventually, as i'm unwilling to part with any more cash for another controller.

(Oh dear, San Andreas gets a poor score, thats going to piss a fair few off methinks)

  10. how isn't it true hd?

The Wii outputs at max 480p.

the term 'true HD' is what some people are using to describe resolutions of 1080p and eventually upwards when it comes about. Whereas anything with the HD logo on it is HD, this is kind of the pinnacle of HD and has been called 'True HD' tho it's not a trademark or official title.

  11. i'd be surprised to but there's no way the ps3 kicks seven shades of shit out of anything. it's a great machine but i just don't buy it. maybe if sony weren't so damned arrogant about the whole affair it wouldn't be so funny watching nintendo kick their arse on handhelds and next gen consoles.

the ps3 on paper is the most powerful console but time and time again developers have came out and said that they can't get that power out of it because the ps3 is so hard to program for. the 360 and the wii are much easier and so you're seeing more immediate results.

the ps3 is nothing but a box of stolen ideas and false promises. i see their new innovative idea is a habbo hotel/second life rip off. well done sony. :D

anyway, they don't have 12 months to fix it. in 12 months halo 3 will come out and the next gen battle will be over if sony haven't got the games out and the sales going up.

Regarding the programming affair, it was the exact same story back when the PS2 came out, it's a new console, launch games have never been Sony's forte, like i say i think it's going to be a matter of time before anything truely great comes out on the console, it might even be the next-next gen before any of the consoles can do the HD revolution true justice. Plus, games-wise alot of developers right now would rather put out a game on PS2 that over 100 million people will be able to play on launch day, which they have complete confidence in making the best game possible, until the PS3 takes over. Like i say, give it 12 months, the point i was making is that it's certainly not going to 'dwindle away into oblivion'.

Although I could see that happening to the PSP as Sony tried to take on what is effectively Nintendo's market, great little machine but was never really given the time of day by the programmers and will probably never live it's full potential. Left with a catalouge comprised of a dumping ground of re-makes and old PSOne/2 games. Shame.

  12. still sony will be able to get their jollies this week when the ps3 launches. then like the psp it will dwindle away to oblivion. :)

In all fairness, i'd be very surprised if that happened, the only thing really plauging the Europe launch is the fact that we're paying far over the odds, frankly everything else about the console kicks seven shades of shit out it's competitors. Bearing in mind the 360 has had a year to iron out all its flaws, 12 months from now i think the PS3 will have had a chance to come down in price and sort out upgrades to fix the whole backwards compatibility issue and the whole next gen battle should become really interesting.

  13. i have one thing to add to all this (Or a few

:p), Doc from Assension seemed ok to me, but abit up his own arse (by abit i mean very) when i first met him, i enjoid yor music for about 5 seconds untill...i was sitting downstairs watching Scuzz,,,,along came Dragonforce, then it hit me! nothing entirely original or different about the two, except of course dragonforce were more than capable of playing the biggest wankery solos and OTT double bass!

i have no doubts about your other guitarist, his solos are pretty kool, but the constant 'blastbeats' and 'tremelo picking' and the fact that most of your songs last 10mins leaves very little to anything sounding productive as apposed to being repetative (ok abit of repitition is good sometimes, ha in our case maybe a little OTT aswell)!

you all seem sound apart from you Doc, grow the fuck up, open your ears to something other than Herman Lee, instead of sitting there on your computer thinking of ways to 'Slate' other bands and spouting abuse at so called 'rumours' your not a teenager for christ sake, an your not in the know about everything either!

surely someone 'in the music scene' would understand this!

    Muchos love!

that ugly bastard from your favourite band :)

    x

In all fairness dude, Doc's comment (although it was negative) was fairly reasonable (trust me he can do worse, see any of the ascension-atom threads ;)), a few others in this thread have said alot worse, if there's a personal vendetta on the go it's probably best kept that way (ie to yourself), airing these things completely unprovoked on the internet, never ends up in anything other than a closed thread and absolutely nothing constructive. While its not nice to have people laying into your bands its worth remembering the whole opinions/arseholes ditty, while a bunch of people up here may not think much of your stuff, theres plenty of other people who do, try n not let it get to you.

You Massive Goth! (if im right in thinking that is who you are.... :p)

  14. ...and a less than impressed Camie and Dayeth by the look of things.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's suddenly turned shite - I just think the abrubt change in story line in Series 3 has upset the continuity a bit and has also, strangely, caused the show to repeat itself in the sense that we seem to be seeing a lot of back story to new characters (in this case The Others) as we did Series 1 for the main group of survivors and Series 2 for people on the other side of the island.

No doubt Series 4 will introduce a new set of characters and introduce more back story that's "essential" to the plot.

Yeah thats my only gripe with the season so far, instead of actually answering any of the oh-so important cliffhangers it left at the end of season 2 it seems to be quite content just filling out episode after episode with flashbacks for all the new players or yet more flashbacks for Jack etc. Its starting to feel like with all the bogging itself down with new people and storylines, they'll only just of caught up with the main storyline or charachters toward the end of this season.

While like Camie says, they're all good 40 minute eps, i dont think they fit well in with the first 2 seasons, it feels more like a spin-off at the moment.

Although i await a spectactular 'bringing everything together' episode, that makes me go ahhhhhhhhh!

  15. How did i know that was going to be the solution. I always preferred WMP until this version, it looks nice but seems to be buggier than an anthill.

I would of used Winamp years ago but i dont think it supported wma's at the time. I assume it does now? i might investigate it, dont think i've ever even opened the library tab on it. Just gutted its taken so long to catagorise all my music around media player and how it works and have everything where i want it so its easily found and now im going to have to start from scratch with Winamp.

    *grumble again*

    Cheers tho!

  16. ok, so i upgraded to WMP11 after i read about it in the other thread about it. And yeah it is quite good, but i'm having a hoor of bother with playing somethings (by somethings i mean about 90% of my music). Certain files which may or may not of come from other sources, i guess i understand, but even most the stuff which i ripped off the CD myself on this computer is coming up with 'unable to play file'. So after refusing to listen to microsoft i finally hit the 'web help'. Most the troubleshooting was 'you dont have a sound card', 'your sound card doesnt work', which is evidently wrong as some files do work.

the only thing i found that could be relevant was as follows:

You are trying to play an MP3 file that contains compressed ID3 headers. The ID3 header is a portion of the file that stores the song's album information (for example, the song name, artist name, album name, and genre). This information is sometimes called a "tag."

To fix the problem, make a copy of the file and then use a non-Microsoft ID3 tag editing program to remove or reset the file's ID3 headers. After you remove the ID3 headers, Windows Media Player should be able to play the MP3 file.

Attempting to remove ID3 headers might damage the file and make it unplayable. Therefore, always make a copy of the file before you edit it.

If this solution does not resolve the problem, the file might be corrupted.

That's all a bit over my head. Tho i should add alot of the files arent MP3, they're WMA, so i dont know if this advice is applicable. What would be suggested as an ID3 tag editing program? And what is a ID3 tag editing program? Also is this method going to involve going through every file individually? As i seriously don't know if i can be cocked with that.

    *grumble*
