  1. hit DEL at the bios screen before it boots and change the boot sequence to C first.

Hm, i went into bios and it said:

    First Boot - Hard Disk

    Secondary Boot - CDROM

didnt mention C: specifically at any point.

had a wee fiddle with that but didnt wanna mess with it too much in the fear of completely screwing it up

  2. ok, i'll try and keep this short.

I have just moved a few bits of hardware about and decided to just do a fresh install of xp.

So, put the xp disc in, reboot. It loads up the setup window, i go for install windows, delete the partition, format the drive, it copies all the install files across and reboots.

Now, i did this the other day with my laptop and when rebooting it gave the option to bypass boot from cd and takes you to the installation process. But my pc will not bypass the CD boot, and when i take the disc out it refuses to load until you put the cd in. So everytime it takes you back to the blue setup screen with no option to move forward.

I'm at the peak of my knowledge on this matter, and none of the online help guides mention anything of this happening.

Any of you more tech savvy folks have any advice?

    Cheers!

  3. PS3 is not without small reliability problems as well

Though, in the event of this happening, the sony technical help seem quite good, a friend of mine called up today with a dud blu-ray unit (he has the original euro 60gb which they dont make anymore), they've got a new one lined up and will be delivered by friday.

thought that was pretty good customer service.

I'm not going to wade too far into this topic as I bought my PS3 on launch day after months of saving and salivating and dont regret it one bit. If it were not such a derogatory remark to make, i would consider myself a fanboy.

The only thing the PS3 needs is more games (2008 should see to that).

I wouldn't mind some form of achievements system like the 360 too, but i think there's going to be something like that built into Home when it surfaces (getting 100% on Assassin's creed with not so much as a "well done" or "get a life" is still smarting :) )

  4. It wasn't quite as clear cut as it appears tho, with production costs significantly higher than HD-DVD, i honestly thought it was curtains a few months back when Paramount signed that 18 month exclusivity deal with HD-DVD.

I'm pretty certain PS3 won this for Blu-Ray tbh, expecting Xbox owners to fork out n additional 100+ quid for the drive probably a step too far. Tho im completely certain had the Xbox been able to come out with the drive initially it would be a very different story. Regardless of what the studios were backing, Blu-ray's been outselling HD pretty much 2:1 since the PS3 came out.

Personally, fucking delighted, firstly that sony managed to finally back the right horse, and secondly that i dont have a rather expensive piece of (soon to be) obselete technology under my telly :)

  5. Aye, think Download's gonna be a miss for me this year, more bands coming through every few days, but still at this stage in proceedings the only acts i actually really want to see are The Offspring and In Flames, the rest i would watch if i just happened to be in the same room as them and they just happened to be playing, but im not spending what would probably end up being nearer 3-400 quid for the experience.

  6. Funny, i've been banging on about hireing a steam cleaner to give the place a clean up for an age now, but it's not to be.

However the carpet was cleaned with an industrial carpet cleaner only a couple of months ago. It's just so fucked it didnt make a great difference.

Moshulu's in line for a wee spruce up over the next few months, i expect it'll be gone after that.

  7. As the "conversation" approached the 20 minute mark she was almost at shouting volume, when I finally snapped. I turned around and shouted "for Christ's sake woman, keep your voice down", to a chorus of "Hear, Hear".

Awesome, you may of just become a personal hero of mine :)

People like that are probably one of my gripes ever, along with people who pay near enough a tenner to go to the cinema just to talk through and ruin it for everyone else, why not save your money and just have a conversation in the street.... grrrrr.....

  8. It seems you are damned if you don't promote things enough, and damned if you do...

You don't have to read the bulletins if they annoy you!

as i said in my message to the myspace, theres a difference between healthy active promotion and just spamming.

15/20/however many bulletins in the space of about 2 hours falls into the latter catagory.

Anyway, i feel a conflict of interests coming on, so i'm going to shuttup now :)

  9. Has anyone given it a go yet? I noticed there was a bit of interest on the 'Games looking forward to' thread.

i'm just about to have a bash at memory block 5, 3 more assassinations to go and enjoying it immensely. Already planning a replay to collect all the 700ish flags n that.

I think it's got alot of pretty unfair press tbh, my only problem with it so far is a poor frame rate when the shit hits the fan and it's made my console crash 3 times. Other than that, gameplay, graphics and plot/storyline all have full marks.

Anyone else picked it up or is everyone having trouble keeping the red ring of doom at bay (i jest!).

  10. Sega all the way,

    my progression went:

Master System (with Alex Kidd built in - oh yes!)>Mega Drive>PSOne>PS2>PS3

(Sould be noted that i was absolutely gutted as kid never to find the 32X or Mega CD under my xmas tree as a kid. Slightly less gutted in hindsight mind you.)

    Handhelds:

    Gamegear>PSP

i believe there may be a bit of a theme in there.

And being a Sega Boy my heart did sink a little when Mario + Sonic @ the Olympics was announced. Just for the fact all the trailers show the little podgy plumber holding his own in the 100m sprint against the supersonic hedgehog. I had him more down as a Shot Putt or Weightlifting kinda guy.

  11. One of the worst kept secrets in the games industry has finally been officially announced. After a flurry of rumours and leaks that a new 40GB SKU of the PlayStation 3 would be coming' date=' Sony has finally confirmed the speculation is, in fact, no longer speculation.

The new 40GB version will debut in the UK on October 10 and is "no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation 2 titles," according to Sony. It will also only sport two USB slots instead of four and will ditch the multimemory card port--although this can be added on with an accessory. The 40GB version will go on sale at a price point of 299 (about $610).

In a statement, Sony said of the lack of backwards compatibility that it reflected, "both the reduced emphasis placed on this feature amongst later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive lineup of PS3-specific titles."

When asked about PSOne games, Sony told GameSpot, "the backwards compatibility of PSOne titles is achieved through software and the vast majority of PSOne titles are backwards compatible with the new PS3." Sony did not return calls to comment by press time on why PlayStation 2 compatibility--which has always been handled with software in European PS3s--could not be achieved with the new model as well.

That's not all UK Sony fans are getting for the holidays. Sony also announced a price drop on the standard 60GB version, which will continue to be sold alongside the new model. The current Starter Pack, which boasted a 60GB PS3, two first-party games, and two Sixaxis controllers, will be discontinued.

It will be replaced by the new Value Pack, which will feature a backwards compatible 60GB PS3, one Sixaxis wireless controller, two first-party titles, and will cost 349 (about $712)--a 76 (about $155) price drop from the current price of 425 (about $868).

"As we approach our very first PlayStation Christmas, it is satisfying to be able to offer UK consumers the choice of two PlayStation 3 packages both now representing remarkable value," commented Ray Maguire, managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment UK.

    [/quote']

Thought it might be of intrest man, dunno about that PS2 backwards compatability, they fixed the old 60Gb's with a network update, dunno why they wont just do it with these ones, odd. Anyway, yer 60's a good dose cheaper now too.

  12. New flooring you say? Sounds slippery, are they going for vinyl stuff?

everywhere except for that bit beside the poles, we're putting an oil slick in there, keep it slippy.

Don't get too excited folks, we've had a quote n that for getting it replaced, but as we dont deal with things on a first person basis, it's not just as easy as getting it done, athin has to go past 'the powers that be' first.

Plus the moshulu carpet may be boggin, but it's never going to achieve the legendary status of the palace's flooring. That thing was a true achievement.
