  1. well at last some transfer activity down in the swampland of the blue square toilet premier league, still in shock that Cambridge have actually paid hard cash for a player, all of 15k, a much needed striker from that football giant Welling United!
  2. only one season in league 2 and champions as well! Struggling in league 1 though after 12 games 4th from bottom and dumped out the league cup and JPT in the first round, a long season ahead! Was offered the Hull job last season and name keeps getting banded about for bigger jobs!
  3. Lee Dixon was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt on MOTD2 last night but it looks like a clear stamp and I can see him getting a 3 or 4 game ban. The Arsenal fans are running out of patience with Wenger now! If they lose Van Persie which is looking increasingly likely they'll be right fucked though that Ox chap looks a great prospect.
  4. Spurs were desperately unlucky against City but that's football, shame Dafoe couldn't bury that chance as it would have blown the title race wide open, back to a 2 horse race I think. Surprised there hasn't been a mention of Aberdeen's magnificent draw at Ibrox unless I missed it or are the dons fans still celebrating! When are the scouse supporters gonna run out patience with King Kenneth? I watched the whole game against Bolton and they were abysmal. And now he comes out slating the players off!!! You signed them mate mostly at overinflated prices as well! For that kind of outlay they should at least be nestling comfortably in the top four!
  5. Never thought I'd ever say this but compared to quite a few teams in the conference, Cambridge are quite a well club these days! At least we stopped throwing money at promotion and living within our means for a change!!! It's such a tough league to get out of with only two promoted teams and nowadays around half the league is made up of former football league teams with similar ambition.
  6. I don't know the full story but Reynolds was spouting shite how Darlington were going to a Premier League side in 10 years and needed a stadium to match that ambition. The daft thing is, the capacity is restricted to 10,000 for football matches so in the unlikely event they did make the promise land it'd have been about as useful as a chocolate fireguard! And Reynolds knew this when they put the planning application in. It has been used for the odd gig (Elton John has played there) but it's a ring around their neck for sure.
  7. it's a depressing situation down in the conference and further down the non league pyramid, my own club have been in admin and an inch away from going bust. In the seven seasons we've been in the conference I don't think the relegation places have been sorted out on the pitch once. Someone always goes bust or is demoted a few leagues whilst other teams get a reprieve. Both Darlington and Kettering are in serious trouble this season, feel especially sorry for Darlo as they were right royally shagged by former chairman George Reynolds. They play is 25,000 all seater stadium but get crowds of barely over 2,000!
  8. I'm with you there, would love to see Spurs win the title, they play fantastic football and always admired dodgy 'Arry although would never buy a second hand car off him! They're looking good for the champions league so should be able to keep the squad intact for next season as well.
  9. Swansea played some good stuff yesterday and deserve to be where they are in the league, good on them, nice to see the promoted teams doing well for a change save QPR who will prob be ok with Hughes at the helm and money to spend in the window. As is typical once an unfancied side (e.g. Spurs) are talked about as title contenders they go and fuck it at home against relegation fodder but all the sides up the top have been dropping points. A pleasing if not flattering 4-1 win against AFC Telford in the trophy on Saturday and for once at a trophy game a bit of atmosphere! Third round draw today, really fancy a no pressure day out at Wembley in May so hoping we can get a lower league team such as Dartford or Carshalton at home but knowing our like will prob end up with a tough away draw at Luton or York.
  10. won the conference with ease third season now back in the cauldron of League 2 and in the play offs after 8 games, wage budget is shit compared with the other teams so had to shore up the squad with loan signings as usual, don't expect to do a Stevenage and get promoted twice on the trot but will be happy to avoid scrapping against relegation! A new stadium is on the way apparently. It's weird because it has the capacity of the Abbey down as just over 4,000 and is not allowing standing which is shit when you get a home tie in the FA cup like last season against prem league opposition and the ground is half empty! Still didn't complain at the 150k tv money!!!
  11. bloody hell it's the 2nd round of the FA Trophy tomorrow, what an oversight! Was forgetting the sneaky 1-0 win away at that football giant Borehamwood in the 1st Round, I was there, it was bloody cold and there was no atmosphere. I do remember a billboard stating Arsenal woman play their home games at their run down 'stadium'!
  12. its a 4-4-2 system for weaker teams I found on the SI forums, will try and find a link to it, deffo works. I had a tactic I used for years but lost it so for the first season was using my own which was pretty frigging hopeless! This is a link to the thread where I nicked it from, think you can view it without signing up (you may well be signed up anyways!) http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/292007-4-4-2-blitz
  13. must get myself motivated for tomorrow's FA Trophy 1st Round tie at the Abbey tomorrow against AFC Telford, it'd be nice to have a no pressure day out at Wembley come the end of the season but at this stage of the competition, no-one seems overly bothered. Where I usually stand is closed for the match and be lucky if there's much over a thousand in attendance, doubt Telford will bring anything near to the 172 who witnessed the league game back in August! Should it be a draw we'll have to play them midweek and again in the league next Saturday!
  14. finally succumbed and purchased it last week, runs pretty slow on my machine but enjoying it so far. As usual first game is with my beloved Cambridge United - first season was on verge of the sack, finished 15th in conference. admittedly nicked a tactic from the online forums as hopeless as creating my own tactics. vast improvement second season won the FA trophy and got to play off final losing to Fleetwood and third round of FA Cup (humped 7-0 away at Blackburn!), third season 18 games in got an 8 point cushion at the top of the league and in second round of FA Cup.
  15. Coffin Dodgers Ahoy FC 1 Robin Gibb (joker) 2 Prince Phillip 3 Anna Wing 4 Clive Dunn 5 Maggie Thatcher 6 Ronnie Biggs 7 Kirk Douglas 8 Zsa Zsa Garbor 9 Peter Sallis 10 Aretha Franklin 11 Nancy Reagan 12 Ian Brady 13 Dame Cleo Laine 14 Gene Hackman 15 Pete Doherty 16 Nelson Mandela 17 Vera Lynn 18 Roger Moore 19 Muhammed Ali 20 Al Megrahi come on you lot stop dodging them coffins and bag me some points!
  16. whatever happens with Steve Kean he got a win at Old Trafford and not many managers do that! But Sir Purple Face treated the opposition with no respect hence his team and bench selection, he always gets away with it though cos he's Sir Purple Face.
  17. my prediction that Blackburn would get null points against Man U and Liverpool! Ha what a wally lol!
  18. not a fan then? you never know Newcastle might surprise you! I hope they win Dalglish is becoming annoying now!
  19. We've sent our Antigua and Barbudan international Keiran Murtagh out on loan to Woking! Hope it frees the funds to get a striker who can actually score a decent amount of goals... that would be nice!
  20. transfer window almost upon us cue lots of teams shipping out mediocre players and replacing them with mediocre players from the french and belgian leagues often on loan... and Dalglish spending shitloads of money... on mediocre players!
  21. I'm bloody fuming with that inconsiderate old sod Phil the Greek, I got my hopes up he was gonna bag me some points before the lock down and now he's only gone and got released from hospital. fucks sake you selfish bastard, your 90 man, you've had a good innings, think of others for once! You are right about royal snuffings, the buggers live seemingly forever as they get the best medical treatment etc. he won't be in my list next year.... bet he bloody dies in 2012 now just to really take the piss!
  22. I saw the funniest thing at the Cambridge v Braintree match yesterday, Braintree hoofed a long ball forward and it was perfect for one of their forwards to latch onto and he would have been clean on goal. It beat the offside trap and our defenders were nowhere to be seen... then the chap who was racing to latch onto the ball fell arse over tit and the ball went harmlessly out of play. Right in front of the United fans as well! He lay there for ages wanting the ground to swallow him up!!!
  23. not for me football was brilliant today as I witnessed Cambridge beating that football giant Braintree 2-0 for our first win in an age, still chipping on those play off doors in the blue square premier, gotta play them away on new years day, looking forward to it. well done Blackburn for getting a point at the scousers but they are making a habit of drawing against premier league fodder at home this season!
  24. I shall be shot down in flames for saying I am looking forward to the new Ting Tings album! And The Wedding Present's new album is finally due to come out in the new year. You can never have enough Gedge!
  25. The treatment of Kean has gone way too far but something fishy certainly seems to be going on at Blackburn. Next two fixtures are away at Anfield then Old Trafford so null points expected over the festive period!
