Howards Alias + The 44s at Cafe West!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3/2/2005...this is really last minute but shall rock immensely.
Howards Alias...
Ska/punk from southampton on Householdname records. their original glasgow show got cancelled so we are putting this on instead. A rare chance to catch this amazing band in an incredibly intimate venue.
The 44s...
8 piece jazzy/rocking tunes from glasgow.
+another band tbc.
Only 2 entry!
This will be amazing

It`ll be 30 at least to see the Foo Fighters again. Say another 30 to see Green Day....
Add travel etc down and back twice..... another 40
thus 100
Soon adds up.
dont forget the privelige of sitting in a field full of neds for 2 days....priceless

They are modified by a guy from glasgow and i like them but i still want something with a bit more kick in the teeth!!!!
who is the guy in glasgow? my mate is looking for someone down here to give his jcm900 a service...

To be fair...you answered your own question there. That gig was the first time HA had been to aberdeen, so would you expect them to pull a huge crowd???? I know for a fact that they werent entirely surprised that alot of folk left...they knew themselves that it was fairly inevitable since they hadnt toured up in scotland that often and thus they are fairly unknown. its just great that promoters are willing to put these bands on in the knowledge that the attendance is likely to be much higher in the future.
As for the "rent a crowd" comment...since the 44s arent an aberdeen band this is nonsense. the reason people came to see us was because they had seen or heard about us from the many times we have been up to aberdeen in the past. whats wrong with that? unfortunately we have no control over whether they stay or not...as much as id have liked for the place to be packed for HA.

this is really sad.
drakes has been amazing to me and my different bands over the years...from the awesome tar/evergreen gigs back in the day (ambulance home anyone?) to the first time the 44s played in aberdeen. you guys were always incredibly helpful and generous.
best of luck!

Our shiny new site is up now at www.the44s.net/index.php as designed by the rather talented Johnny mac.
still some stuff needing ironed out and some content added but the main stuff is there.
Any thoughts?
cheers

48 other people have pretended to be Joe Scully. That's disturbing.

ive got the modded rat...its rather good indeed. i really like the 3 way switch...gives it some much needed versatility...except they switch broke off mine the other day and so is stuck in one position one day ill get it fixed...i need it too much at the moment though.

rubbing the grooves of the nut with a pencil whenever you change the strings is good...probs doesnt look that great but im told it does the job...
-
i heard jif changed to cif because jif meant cunt in turkish...or something like that.
maybe someone was having a laugh with me though...
-
cheers...those lights in moshulu are rather fun indeed

That could rock! Perhaps I could judge it (cos Im a professional photographer). The winner could get a lock of my hair (kidding). An ab music photo competition would rule though.
was thinking we could set a closing date for entries, then stick up a poll for the winner...the public decides!
you think?
also...should we go for actual categories or just a "best photo" competition?
-
dammit...i really meant to go when i was up. is this one just paintings or photographs as well? anyone know when it is on till?
how about an abdn music.com portrait competition?? people stick up there best picture of a person and people can comment. anyone?
-
ah the banter...
-
i'm not going on my own!
nu-uh.
you can speak to us big man
we wont see you alone...
-

a wee question...what wattage is the head?
-
i saw modey lemon supporting mccluskey the other night...thought they were ok but nothing particularly exciting. cool bass synth stuff though.
Mcclusky totally blew them away though...

well ive done a fair few mixes on the s5s now and so far they all transport really well to other systems. my only criticism is they are a little light on the bottom end side of things. however for 250quid you really cant complain.
the alesis M1actives are also worth a look in this price range
-
i dont know of anywhere in aberdeen that lets you try them out...
Academy of Sound in glasgow are pretty good at letting you test stuff. when i bought my monitors i spent a couple of hours listening to cds on various different models in there. I eventually went for the Tapco S5s and they are awesome for the money.

I think the QM is ace. Good as both a club and as a venue. I've seen Dashboard Confessional, the NME tour and Jimmy Eat World there,to mention but a few, as well as some of their local band nights like tonight, and i've thought the sound and atmosphere have been fantastic every time. And Dominic Diamond goes to gigs there, so if it's good enough for him....
