  1. I'd probably go, I'm not a fan, but I'd be curious to see what they were like here..depends where, though.
  2. Wasn't it just plain odd? You'd think if they had a licence for what they were doing, then the moaning gits shouldn't have had a leg to stand on :|
  3. I'm way too tired to comment properly, so all that i'll say is that the good old Cuts are really, really getting into the swing of things now - the early gig nerves seem to have been replaced with a new found confidence that they're winning over people. I have to say that they were outstanding tonight, with everything slotting into place just wonderfully. I missed Turning 13, so can't comment. The venue itself was a bit strange - I can't say that I'm too keen on the place as a venue, it seemed a fine place to have a drink, but it just didn't have the same vibe that The Moorings has. I think my feelings are probably summed up in the sense that they were just "trying too hard" as a venue and not hard enough on other aspects - I'd probably go and see bands I liked there, but I wouldn't go there in the hope that something exciting might be on. There was also an acoustic solo act, I didn't catch the person's name, but she had a beautifully haunting voice, and the nature of her performance suited the place far more than full on bands. All in all, with doors being advertised at 9pm and soundchecks still being done then, it didn't lend itself to being a very credible venue - it just doesn't seem to "fit" in the grand scheme of things.
  4. how the hell did i completely manage to miss this? :| *blames camie*

  7. It's not kind, it's just a bloody ace song it's just very, very quirky and odd, i can't define it to save my life, but i found myself singing it in my head a couple of days ago...so surely that's the true definition of a good song? it's damn catchy, that's what it is i've made so many people on my msn list download the video too

A half pint of John Smiths in Drakes for the Hundred Reasons album.
  11. Seeing as I can't reply in the original thread i posted about things being moderated, I'd like to ask about when we're going to see these "guidelines" being issued so we know the score as far as why threads will get locked/deleted/people being banned/etc.
  12. yeeeeeeess that, along with Summer by the good old Cuts (much better live..come and see it on thursday *nods*) and Long Ago Boy by The X-Certs. 124 Worlds by We Become Less is an old favourite too, probably the first song that truly made me wake up and wonder what the hell it was (locally).
  13. Saw them at V2002 in warm rain..was an experience

    The Cuts

welll..let's see http://www.cuts.tk is the official site. they're playing at ..i can't remeber the name of the place off hand, but it's between that terrible 70's place and Yates on Justice Mill Lane next week - do a little search, you'll find it. They're playing with Turning 13, free entry. errm, what else..what would you like to know?
  17. you're doomed, we now know exactly where you live, mwahahaha

    Gigs

It doesn't' date=' as far as I can see. I know there's nothing wrong with putting on good bills, I mean, Strobing Goat are damned original, but it surely can't be healthy to have gigs as poorly attended as this? Granted though, The Moorings seems to be kicking ass as far as attendances go - every time i've been there for a gig, it's been fairly damn busy. It would probably help a hell of a lot, but they just seem utterly apathetic towards the whole thing. I don't know why, but you've gotta wonder why the independent and the herald haven't started full scale music features, it's not as if they have much else to put in the pages. I think you're right - I just hope it doesn't result in any problems for any of the venues.

    Gigs

I can think of a great example though - Strobing Goat seem to be getting gigs by the shedload, yet (no disrespect to them), they seem to be doing precisely fuck all in terms of bringing people actually to the music. There was hardly anyone at the Sluts of Trust gig, and then the Fudge night was shockingly attended on top - so why the hell do they keep getting gigs? There's no such thing as an easy fix in any industry, and it's painfully apparent in this case.
