  1. well swing out sister did play 2 dates at the royal albert hall in 1997 without the need of a tell all book to boost sales... its a good starting place and when did motley crue get asked to play at the switching on of the blackpool illuminations cheers stuart
  2. Despite frequently saying that I'm not into prog I have been listening to the first Transatlantic album again after a gap of a while, and i have to say what an amazing work of musicianship. For those who don't know Transatlantic is a modern prog supergroup whose members are: Roine Stoltz (the flower kings) - guitar Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) - drums Neil Morse (ex-Spock's Beard now solo) - key and vocals Pete Trewavas (Marillion) - bass It is a completely self indulgent and superb album, clocking in at 1 hr 17 minutes despite only having 5 songs. The album is called SMPTe (made up of their initials). The band is called Transatlantic cos 2 of the members live in Europe, 2 in the states. They released a follow up album, Bridge Across Forever which i was sadly never able to get into, they then split up. The band only ever played 19 times and only twice in the UK, I was lucky enough to see them on one of those dates, although to be honest the gig wasn't one of my favourites looking back and listening to the album now i'm glad i went. For anyone who likes complicated rock music played by amazing players its well worth checking out, possibly one of the best rythm section i've ver heard... Webcast here for anyone with time to watch and a high speed connection: http://www.studiomlive.com/nearfest2k/transatlantic_fireworks.htm Cheers Stuart
  3. It was part of the release of his new book, done through Ottakers, only 4 quid to see an acoustic Vienna, it was superb, he's playing some acoustic dates next year he was sayiong the only Scottish one so far is Dunfermline, but I was trying to recommend Drummonds as a possibility. Cheers Stuart
  4. I'm just back from seeing Midge's acoustic shoirt set (4 songs) and Q&A session at the Lemon Tree, what a nice and interesting guy. It was great to hear Vienna done live, believe it or not despite having been to 3 of his gigs I'd never yet actually seen him play. He was charming, told some great stories and for me showed a great sense of humour when he played the first line of Joe Dolce's 'Shuddupa your Face'. It was good to see him again, and he is one of the most talented musicians Scotland have ever produced, he moved from Rock in Thin Lizzy to Pop in Slick to Punk in the Rich Kids, and then into electropop with Ultravox, not that many people who are that versatile. He has also produced some stuinning work. If the only thing he ever did was co-write the Band Aid single then he would have assured a place in rock history, although Geldof was the public face Midge did as much to organise Live Aid and is one of Scotland's ost underated musicians, multi-talented and lovely bloke, not many of them around Cheers Stuart
  5. Actually Stryper have reformed Del, they recorded new tracks for a greatest hiots album a year or so ago. See i know all kinds of crapbeing a musical snob as i am Cheers Stuart
  6. I thought the point was that you could like different genre's I like the beautifull South, Metallica, Dido, Def Leppard, Asia, tatu, Racine, Transvision Vamp, Wolfsbane, Iron Maiden, Marillion etc etc... liking one genre doesn't preclude you from liking another... Cheers Stuart
  7. I'm not middle-aged and i like them, and surely most of the original Motley Crue fans and band members must be middle aged by now, bet they all like the Beautiful South Cheers Stuart
  8. Nah not impossible to like them just making comparisons, some are better than others Cheers Stuart
  9. The Housemartins rock I'd much rather see them or the Beautiful South than Motley Crue, their songs were actuially half decent. And the Beautiful South have just covered ELO, ELO could blow Motley Crue off the stage for a showmanship too Cheers Stuart
  10. Just been listening to a lot of the Barenaked Ladies recently, been a big fan since Gordon but recently got much more into them. They're undoubtedly the best live band I've ever seen (and I've seen a shitloads of great performers) and they're playing the UK again at the end of the year. If you get thre chance try and catch them they're an amazing live act and the vibe of the concert is a really fun one. The new album has the amazing 'Another Postcard' on it, no other band could do an album with a song about someone being sent random stationary with chimpanzee's on them. They also do amazing serious songs like 'The Flag' and 'Wrap your arms around me'. For people who like mellow pop/rock they're well worth checking out. Hope to see some people at the Glasgow show Cheers Stuart
  11. Ahh true, but none of them were bands of the 90's lets wait until the 70's shows come up Cheers Stuart
  12. Nah they'll be in the 80's show tho somehow i doubt it innovative marketing etc, but not much innovative in music, thenagain i'd argue the same about Radiohead. I think they have missed out a lot of innovative and interesting bands from that era. I'd argue the KLF possibly should have been there, and theres a few others spring to mind. Cheers Stuart
