  1. This is a very exciting idea & what a fantastic musical line-up you have put together for the 1st one. All three parties should be applauded for such an inspiring initative.
  2. you are right, we need an audience to support our synergy electronic project, we have some great plans for the future, but we need audience in the very wonderful Dr Drakes, from this one onward. Tell your friends........
  3. ahem, i'm slightly embarassed now......................... as i am ignorant of their music i didn't realise their was a corrolation between their style & Pedro or LP. grove...........sorry
  4. well not b4 u posted here, is there any relevence to why you posted this on this thread. ru promoting their next uk visit?
  5. I agree with what has been said & with Graeme's list of beaut's, (esp marta sebestyn) plus i would add Adem on the jas yorkston night & poss mylo. The LT should be applauded for what they have brought to Aberdeen over the last twelve years, however times are tough for them & you have you have to search deeper in their progrmme for those special nuggets of joy. Whilst the programme is content to uplift the number of tribute bands offsetting this with an increase in local band nights, this has provided a platform for those wishing to bring interesting music to Aberdeen to plug the gap. I to, will renew my regular membership because I believe in what the LT is about & that things go in cycles.
  6. yes you've got it, all interesting music promotions gigs feature artists that are interesting..... and to be quite frank, are different from what everyone else is putting on. you will see artists that haven't been to Aberdeen b4 or if they have in as different guise/set up
  7. very 1 st Aberdeen appearance Dr Drakes Frid 1st Oct Doors 8pm pedro (meloidic) lucky pierre (melodic) andy la kipp * melodic have been on the go for about 5 years now, steadily growing and gaining critical acclaim for their particular brand of beautiful, considered electronica. james ruteledge (aka pedro) has been with the label since its birth, he was actually the first artist to record for the fledgling imprint. since then weve seen two astounding pedro records which have set us up nicely for his new album which hits the record shops later this month. support on the night comes from lucky pierre (aka aidan moffat) who has also recorded as one half of arab strap and will be performing a special L pierre dj set. * ' a beautiful soundtrack for your life that teases out those dormant emotions ' dj magazine on pedros first full length for melodic * 'an astonishingly evocative, emotionally potent record with a serene but terribly sad beauty' (4/5) - the times on lucky pierres hypnogogia (4/5) muzik on hypnogogia * album of the year nick warren (dj) on hypnogogia * * www.melodic.co.uk

  9. i'll be amazed if anybody can pick out Dawn of the Replicant's references in indafusions music!!!!!!!!!! thats some list of reference points
  10. interesting music promotions present our all consuming electronica nights ::synergy:: which will be on the 1st Friday of the month (Sunday in Nov). ::synergy:: @ Dr Drakes Frid 1st Oct 04 Doors 8pm Door Tax 6 Pedro (Melodic Records) Lucky Pierre (Melodic Records) Andy Le Kipp (Fopp Records) Pedro's debut album was possibly one of the most anticipated debuts of last year. Especially, given the fact that 24 year old James Rutledge first delivered his debut EP for the Melodic label in June 1999, indicates to us that this is a young man that wishes and deserves to have his album taken seriously. But this is no time for bemused corrugated foreheads. This album has twists and turns but is not one that cannot be understood. This album was well worth the wait. Shall we dispense with the Folktronica tag at this stage then? Why not. When a record has so many signifying strands, it would be trite to dismiss it as simply that. As James puts it himself, I was trying to take a hip hop aesthetic and expand the range of references to stuff like 20th century classical, jazz, 2 step, early electronic music all the stuff that I get inspired by. I wanted to move on from the sound of my 2 ep's and I think Im progressing A humble heart or simple understatement? We think the recordings are a validation of him chasing hell and high water for that new found aesthetic. Essentially, he is finding his voice, in the only way he knows how; through a distillation of many many music forms. The warmth of To Rococo Rot, coupled with the hip hop backbone of Boom Bip and the ambition of Jim O'Rourke. A morphing electronic player with the underpinning of rock. What singles Pedro out from the crowd is the soulful elements and the doffed cap towards nature. For a man that has recently relocated to London, this album is covered in shrubbery. His life of old. But before one thinks about the parochial, Pedros mastery of programming slaps doubters into place and onto a fast track to the modern age. Lucky Pierre is Aiden Moffat of Arab Strap's latest project, a more soothing version of his usual trade, and another endeavour named straight from the pages of Razzle. "It's a gay joke"!! explains Aiden, and what happens when you sit around laughing at porn for too long!!!!! Lucky Pierre is a brief distraction from the day job of Arab Strap, claims Aiden, with his principal mission to make music to fall asleep to &. Indeed the inspiration to create a relaxing wind-down record of his own came from the incessant spawn of contrived chill out records which currently invade record stores everywhere. I can't stand those chill-out things and I was having real bad sleeping problems; I just couldn't relax. So I decided to find some sounds which I liked and put them together, its as simple as that. Lucky Pierre has two heavily-limited singles to his name to date, the 12" Blank For Your Own Message and Pierres Lucky Day, described by the NME as "single of the week had it been raining". His album was also inspired by friendly rivalry with Arab Strap guitarist Malcolm Middleton. "Basically he bet me I couldn't pull it off, so I had to take him up on that"! It was constructed to meet in the middle and specifically for vinyl, so that either side was perfectly fit in order to help the listener relax, tailing off into acoustic bliss and the land of nod at its end. There are even references to previous work here and there, with Aiden raiding the cupboards of Arab Strap's second album, Philophobia, for ocean-sized cello and string sections. Andy Le Kipp is a new kid on the block, fresh from manning the queues at Fopp sale, Andy proves laptop entertainment can be individually styled to meet fresh demands of playing solo.
  11. interesting music promotions present an evening of delicious thrills Dr Drakes Thurs 30th Sept 04 Doors 8pm Door tax 5 Misty's Big Adventure are SL Records of Edinburgh's first non-Scottish signing. The 8-piece psychedelic popsters from Birmingham will release their debut album "misty's big adventure and their place in the solar hi-fi system" in September. The album was co-produced by Richard March (Bentley Rythm Ace) and Matthew Eaton (PRAM) and follows on from their two singles "cool with a capital c" and "night time better than the daytime/I killed the neighbors They have been attracting press attention, with mojo, uncut and even the NME interested, who are linking them with The Zutons and the new "schroomadelic" movement! Dont let that put you off, They are lots of live fun. www.mistysbigadventure.co.uk The Vandelays formed in June 2003 when Andy Pirie, Vocals + Guitar, and Dave Stephen, Vocals, Guitar + Keyboard, got together to work on some material for a few acoustic shows. Some more members were added In September, Craig Reid, Vocals + Bass and Bryan Forrest, Drums, before the band started to record and play around Aberdeen. Highlights being supporting the Needles at the Lemon Tree and the MPE Band at Dr. Drakes. At the moment the Vandelays are rehearsing new material and will be gigging around Scotland before completing recordings for an E.P or album. Talk Book is Joe Hearty and Richard Scott. Both live in Stonehaven, which is often a lot like Twin Peaks. The music, is for the most part, pretty stripped down and to the point. It could make you dance frantically, while crying, but thats only a rumour. Objects used; guitar, drums, pick, organ, tapes, dictaphone, hands and electricity. Amen.
  12. here's a couple were putting on interesting music promotions ::synergy:: Dr Drakes Frid 1st Oct featuring Pedro (melodic records) Lucky Pierre (melodic records) Andy Le Kipp (fopp records) & Cafe Drummonds Tues 5th Oct Jackie Leven & Caroline Fowlie ps here's a late Sept late booking Dr Drakes Thurs 30th Misty's Big Adventure (sl records) The Vandelays Talk Book

  15. i think you should shout it from the rooftops better still did you volunteer to take the sandwich board up & down belmont street??
  16. its the old domino effect from when the bands arrive, soundcheck, feed. i would estimate doors 7.45pm Alan on 8.20pm. both are clear as mud.
  17. All I can say is this is going to be one hell of a gig. A great supporting cast & the major's live gig's with Nan are hitting level's that other two piece bands can only dream about........ health warning, Schwervon's gigs can seriously damage mortal muscians for life
  18. tonight doors @ 7.30pm two artists from Bob Dylan & Low's home town only one of two Scottish dates. expect a magical evening a not to be repeated event in Aberdeen's best intimate venue. both artists second releases with catapault them onto the next level. youve been told
  19. tomorrow night @ drakes will feature the real thing from Duluth, Minnisota, USA - Bob Dylan's home town, artists acknowledged by Alan Sparhawk of Low - "as very fine" play in Aberdeen just come along & see what is real & what isn't bullshit bollocks
  20. I am reliably informed that in some cases, the combination of writing, remembering & regurgitating words & chords at the same time can cause some mere mortals of muscians to panic or freeze. And then expect a paying audience to appreciate the art. I am full of admiration, but I think i'll stick to helping promote these excellent touring artists in Aberdeen, supplemented by aspiring locals who are trying to do something slightly different.
  21. come along & see how its done US style Charlie Parr & Hayley Bonar this Sunday night (see posts elsewhere)
  22. Lets not be too cynical, maybe hey will pour-in for this show & prove you wrong........ Lots of new faces in drakes............they should do, i recommend this show & artists wholeheartedly
  23. can you use the smut/porn websites/chatrooms please some interesting facts about Haley Bonar Her music is versitile and subtle, swinging from melodic and full, to hushed and sublime. Her second album, "The Size of Planets" was released on Chairkicker's Union, a Duluth-based independent label owned by Low's Alan Sparhawk, in April of 2003. "The Size of Planets" was voted one of the best albums of 2003 by the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and recieved raved reviews from presses like The Big Takeover, Miles of Music, Minneapolis City Pages, Chicago Sun Times, Pulse Magazine, Splendid, and more. Over the past year and a half, Haley spent time touring with bands like Low, Richard Buckner, and Mary Lou Lord, and shared the stage with such bands as Pedro the Lion, Mason Jennings, Josh Ritter, Neko Case, the Black Eyed Snakes, and Ester Drang. This is her very 1st time outside the US & the two dates in Scotland, Glasgow & Aberdeen has got her especially excited, as Scotland is her ancestral home. Come along & make her feel at home & see a young star in the ascendency....... ps Charlie Parr's live shows are very special too & certainly not the kind of thing you will hear in Aberdeen every day.
  24. all good things come to those with a bit of of patience???????????? Come along to the wonderful Charlie Parr/Hayley Bonar event on Sunday 5th Sept to get the latest news!!!!!!!!!
