  1. There should be someone that decides what is and isn't art. I vote me. Or Hitler.

Hitler tried it but it didn't go down too well. Anyone that says they know best usually fails and anyone that says they're gang is better than someone else's gang usually looks a bit daft as well.

The creative sector in all its glory is a wonderful and mental place full of ego and mentalness only to be encouraged... That's not to say that someone cant look a twat but if kept in context they are only a twat to their own immediate peers... Stick something on the interweb with full Po Face and all its good for is shits and giggles! That there is the risk..

Vote Teabags for world art guru!

  2. Me like art and often the more challenging the more I like it. Not always and sometimes a can of shit is simply that, or a can of clay... I could also state that I am cool by saying art is shit and wank but if I then play in a band and express myself through said 'art form' then I too am buying into, and choosing, a form of art as expression which in turn validates most other creative processes. Some of the art works being mentioned were, of their time, and therefore frowned upon and ridiculed by the wider public and art world. That was the point! A similar same point to running around a stage, in front of an audience, screaming at the world. From an outside perspective as pointless and ridiculous as smearing oneself with a tomato sauce based tinned product then taking a piss.

  3. I'm not being funny, but I don't think Aberdeen's crime problem is on a par with NYC's. If they don't get stolen there...

Yeah. Awesome idea. Not sure where they'd all go. But I'd love to see it.

NY is not the city it was a few decades ago. I know which city centre I would feel more comfortable walking about late at the weekend and its not our drunk mess of shithole

  4. Don't want and have not wanted to say too much on here but yes, I will be working at the Lemon Tree from the 28th June in this position.

I guess Its pretty widely known now it would seem so thought id post.

Looking forward to getting stuck into the Lemon Tree and working with the guys over there.

There's no hard feelings with the Warehouse at all and were on good terms - for personal reasons I have decided to leave the venue but wish them all the best for the future.

So although the company are still deciding how to proceed at Warehouse, there will be a position going in my place - whether they get someone based locally or not is still to be decided.

However, I have been asked to forward notes of interest / suggestions to the management - so if your interested, send me your CV and ill forward on for sure - steven.milne@aberdeen-warehouse.com

Fecking disgrace I tell thee. Doomed doooomed! What were they thinking?!

  5. Stop all this rubbish I know who it is pish. It seems to be obvious that it's not a secret so just come out and say it.

Just leaving it to the person that got the post to say...

I made reference to it due to my previous stamping of feet and general huffinesss at being snubbed and I thought it best to address the balance.

My mention of a 'she' was a wee jape is all...

    Who's got the job?

Cant say but it is a very good choice which makes everything okay with the world again :)

  7. To be honest I would say that all you guys who were rejected have had a lucky escape while Im sure you had visions of being able to bring more variety to The Lemon Tree in terms of broader appeal of artists and at more recession friendly prices, I am pretty confident you would have entered a world of being forced to book an endless stream of tribute bands and endure much criticism for inflated ticket prices which was outwith your control

Since it re-opened things seem to have become worse. Certainly no discernible difference. Worse advertising probably.

All things that crossed my mind on every paragraph of my application but needs must. And I wasn't really that bothered about not getting that job. Just perplexed that an application, whether mine or anyone else's, that ticks every box, and some, across the personal specification and job description, at both a professional and interest level, was deemed not suitable or strong enough for their organisation. It does raise questions about intent... I'll reserve a full opinion until I hear who gets the job... Or, I'll simply forget about the Lemon Tree again until it's once more in the papers.

  8. You know what makes me laugh? I found this when looking at the Lemon Tree listings - THE LEMON TREE : New Art Exhibition Opens

Now - if they're going to hire an assistant programmer, wouldn't it make sense to interview in someone with knowledge of art who might be able to expand the job role into that area, too - and even potentially mixing the two in some way?

Or is this just way too logical?

Those listings on their website aren't the full listings, surely? They're absolutely horrible!

It's sad to see that they appear to be doing absolutely nothing "eclectic" despite their promises when they originally took the place over.

Not to mention the duty managers they were seeking as well... Been informed by former members of staff that not getting the job, not that I expected to I will add, is a 'lucky escape'. haha.
