  1. Oooops My apologies for prompting or initialising this bitch slappin fest... Nothing really wrong with guys that have been around for a long time and are still playing and writing original material... I'm not into those that dig themselves out of the grave for a little money making bandwagon excuse for music... I myself have been around for far tooooo many years and will soon fall into the aforementioned categories! If though, you see me playing in a covers band in the Globe in a few years time... SHOOT ME!!!!! FOR GODS SAKE SHOOT MEEEEEEEEE! Especially if I am wearing a leather waste coat and have vinegar stroke expressions on my face whilst playing the drums at zero volume! Jim
  2. Okay I'm not going! (I love getting excited about music and I love others doing the same... Just not when its rehashed crap that was crap the first time round a zillion years ago. this is no reflection on any promoter or an attack at anyone in particular)... Jim I hope those that go enjoy it though coz I'm nice like that.
  3. Well Not everything on these boards should be taken seriously you know... But with mention of Europe and Vanilla Ice I do get strangely cynical... But with a wry smile (most of the time) Cheers Jim
  4. Cool I'm so gald that the music that is coming to Aberdeen is still pushing the boundaries of cutting edge! Now what's on at the Globe tonight?!
  5. Never once entered my mind that you were referring to the us lot... Especially regards to the 'shite promoters fuck off' bit. Now I'm confused coz I'm quoting you quoting me refering to you speaking about the "scene". I ain't getting into it again as I am now boring myself... Jim
  6. C'mon Dave. Sort yer grammar... Its 'hudded'
  7. There and there again....... I wonder if the penny will drop at all.... But come on Shaz! Why haven't you sorted a massive three city advert featuring Friz Turdinhand shown in all the national cinemas to promote a huge festival type thing, huh huh huh? Slacking are ye...? Come on couldn't cost that much.... J
  8. The way the original post was worded suggested that you felt that local promoters never or can't bring interesting and varied acts to Aberdeen and it has to be left to the large financed companies to do so. That's the way it was read and that's what got me a little huffy... Maybe you should consider your wording before you, unintentionaly I'm sure, insult those that care and do their absolute best with no, or very little thanks... I do understand what you are trying to get at but it was a helluva way to put it across. How about 'shite promoters fuck off' ? sums it up no? (not me saying that by the way) Jim
  9. Yup Been a long time since I have been in that place and it brought back a whole mess of memories... Used to be a cracking venue in its day and could be again. Liked the two room feel, something we only ever dreamt about at Drake's. The problem is that it doesn't have a in-house gigging PA therefore one has to be dragged in and hired which adds to hassle and costs and reduces the likely hood more gigs there any time soon. Never say never though! Big thanks to Alun Elizium and Co for lugging stuff around and brininging Elizium back to town (even though I didn't make it)
  10. Stacc Set We played this overhyped dive in Glasgow once on a Monday night for a guy that said he was a friend. He totally stiffed us and even stole the petrol from Andy's car and tried to make off with Ziggy's girlfriend! We have still to get him back! The night was named 'Orio Dipfucks' or something. If you know who I mean avoid at all costs, he's trouble and carry's a knife that only stabbed backs!!!
  11. Where possible... We (drakes) always made the point of paying as much as possible and would never take the piss! There would be times, as Bri Said, where there was simply not enough funds available (I had the cash flow at Drakes down to a fine art and could easily be juggling at Covent Garden) and therefore a verbal 'iou' was issued and nearly always accepted with a smile of understanding... I was the first to hand over more than an agreed amount if it had been a great night, to bands and promoters alike. God Damn it!!! Just figured out why we are not there anymore!!! Paying bands is never easy though but if in doubt, to all bands, get a draft of a contract written up and use it where possible and where accepted. This should help a little in weeding out the unscrupulous venue owner. If they are happy to sign then it puts a positive light on things. Not to say they will stick to it but hey, nothing ventured nothing gained... Problem is, if all bands followed and adhered to the Musicians Union rate of payment then they would never get any gigs! Comes with the turf of being creative I'm afraid. cheesh that was a ramble Jim
  12. Going to gigs! [quote name= Overall I thought it was fantastic' date=' and kinda proves that there are lotsa people in the deen who will go to underground gigs en mass if the promoters got their shit together /QUOTE] Aye if you stick a big red T on the tickets and posters and charge 15 a pop! Corporate sponsorship allows the money to be spent on these acts!!! No one there at T risking at least 25-35% of a weekly income on something that may fail!!! Just a wee point and a flag wave for local independent promoters! Not a dig at anyone unless you stay in your house and never go to gigs and then moan about things! (don't ye hate it when the quote thing gets all out of sinc and you can't be arsed to fix it, I'm sure you get my drift)
  13. Cheeeeesh! Dr Drake's!!!! You may have unwittingly just reiterated my point........
