  1. Was at the 36 Crazyfists gig in Glasgow tonight(which was ACE, can't wait to see them in Edinburgh tomorrow:D) and realised where everyone seems to have got the inspiration for the 'cool trendy down with it' one sided floppy fringe look:

More Play School than old school....

  2. I have listened to their last three albums or so' date=' and I really do think that they have nothing interesting or new to offer. Since [i']Dookie, they haven't particularly developed as artists, with the possible exception of "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)", which turned out to be a one-of-a-kind.

Warning was an absolutely dire albumI remember buying it the day it was released, very excited, with high expectations, only to take home a complete dog of an album.

The whole "concept album" idea smacks of desperation. Green Day are under fire from younger pop-punks, and I think that making a "punk symphony", or whatever else they mis-label it, is an attempt to distance themselves from the young upstarts they created and try to retreat to some pseudo-intellectual high-ground that doesn't interest Blink 182, Sum 41 and their ilk.

Good Riddance is about as standard a Green Day song as you get when you look at the chord structure, it's just that's it played on an accoustic guitar and has violins and shit(on the re-recorded version).

If you listen to the Kerplunk to Insomniac era albums, all the songs are pretty standard three or four chord songs played mostly in the same way. I'm not slagging them off, these are my fave GD albums. But if you then look at Nimrod and Warning, yes they do have the 'signature' Green Day feel to the songs but you can hardly compare most of them to previous work.

You're right, they ARE trying to distance themselves from Sum 41 and the like, rightly so. If Green Day had hashed out two or three more albums along the same vien as Dookie or Insomniac then everyone would be up in arms about them NOT trying something different. You just can't win sometimes.

I'm still not 100% sure if American Idiot(the album) is my cup of tea. I think the single is great, a return to spite filled form, but yeah, still not sure on the whole album myself. I don't think it's fair though to say they're not trying any new or whatnot.

  3. Warning what the most punk album they've every made! It was a two fingers to everyone else, they made the album THEY wanted to make and the last time I checked, that was punk.

But let's not start the whole 'what is punk' debate again....:o

  4. I got it yesterday. Haven't listen through to it properly but initial impressions are that it's a bit of a miss-mash, which I don't know is a good thing or not. That first 9min 'medly', what the fuck is THAT about?! Is it just 5 songs they couldn't be bothered finishing so they squished them together?!

Does seem to play like a gig too, one track into another here and there, which is good and fuck me, how fucking ACE will be to be singing along that 'We Are Waiting' or whatever it's called song gonna be like in, like, the SECC or something?! Ace I think.

Like I said, haven't given it a PROPER good listen to yet so hopefully with grow but after hearing the single and being totally fucking :headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang: , the jury is otherwise out...

  6. WBL did no bad on the CD front. 'our first EP' only ever had about 20 or 30 made and most of them went, the second EP with the funky case was the best seller though. On the opening night at the L8 CD launch we sold about 80. I think OneUp sold about 50 or 60 of that one CD with another 200-odd sold at various gigs over the year after it was put out. Also sent away about 150 of them to various magazine, promotors, given to other bands, chicks, DJs, the usual. The last CD there only sold about 50 copies in that one week of touring with about 20 odd sold in OneUp. If anyone wants a copy and can't get it out of OneUp just gimme a shout, they're all in my boot....

  7. As for the drum kit i agree why should the Touring Band be treated special and get to take time away from other peoples sets just so they can use their fancy kits?? I have a very good expensive kit but i don't demand that i get to use it every time Point play a gig. Its stupid. Everytime i have used it i have let the other drummers enjoy using a good kit for a change. I hate it at kef when you get made to set up at kit in front of the touring bands kit' date=' it makes the local bands seem insignificant compared to the touring band. Also if he keeps the kit in the condition which he says he does with new heads, tuning and what have you then why complain?? He is going out his way to do that, drakes dont do that although they do have a nice new one. Kef dont even have any cymbol stands and the heads are worn out. So to me it seems your getting a very good deal from the Moorings.[/quote']

Well quite frankly, the local band is quite insignificant compared to a touring band - you're local, they have a record deal and an agent and managers etc etc - doesn't that put them a couple of notches above you...? Certainly in Kef there's space to do this. Remember, it's not YOUR gig, it's THEIR gig. The chances are the band and/or the promotor are doing you a favour by putting you on at such and such a gig so that you can play to a different audience and vice versa. If you feel you're getting treated as second best when you're SUPPORTING the MAIN ACT then maybe you shouldn't support any touring bands.

Plus, I dunno about you, but I certainly have a VERY specific way I like my kit set up. 99.9% of drum kits can be set up the way I like it but if I was on tour after releasing an album - you know, doing it professionally - I'd sure want to use my kit whenever I had the chance. In fact, I would pretty much insist on it at every gig, whether it was the Moorings or Kef or the Lemon Tree or the Barrowlands. After all, I'm the professional and these are the tools of my trade. You wouldn't expect David Beckham to wear off the rack boots now, would you? At the same time, if it were a Moorings or Drakes gig, where space is obviously very limited, I would easy let the other bands use my kit.

But at the level you and I are at, my friend, we're hardly in the position to throw a strop over having reduced stage space or having to use an inferior kit if it is demnaded of us.

This might be the wrong thread and even forum for this but, pff:P

  8. What's the size comparison to the Moorings to Drakes? Like I said, I ain't never been in Moorings for a gig but from the one time I have been in there, I don't recall it being any bigger than Drakes. My point? Drakes don't mic up the kit......!*

Also, I'd like to point out, I never EVER have drums put through monitors unless the bass drum is naturally VERY VERY VERY quiet, cos the drums is by far the loudest thing on stage and I have to listen out for the bass and guitar. Or maybe I just kick/hit hard.

*Although aye, the bass drum sometimes has a mic in it.

  9. I must say, I agree with Big G. Fair doos I've only EVER been in the Moorings once and it wasn't during a gig but that's not really the point.

On the drums, takes an hour to erect?! I mean, if it your house kit, surely you know exactly where the 'points' are, don't you?! If you INSIST on using that for EVERY gig then why not just leave it set up all that time?!

On guitar amps, I'd be fucked if I was to spend several hundred pounds on an amp to then let any Tom Dick or Harry to use it, so I can't see that being very popular...

  10. Well, I say..... Mr Lucifer told me this thread existed but I frankly didn't believe it....until now....!

Aye, RBC, that was a total egotistical pile of wank. Didn't really realise it at the time, of course. It turned shit when I started to believe my own hype, I think.

And tbh, folks, I don't think there was really much promotional genius on my part, it was just because I wouldn't shut up about it to everyone cos I was so excited about it. Then it just seemed to make sense to stand outside the Palace and flyer like everyone else did, so I suppose it was no suprise to nearly sell out that first gig. We really should have given up after that, tbh, and been legend.....! God, how fucking bad was the Raging Speedhorn gig?!?! lol

As for the lineup, was talking to Marty DLS about this over the weekend, there wasn't really THAT many lineup changes, no more than a band should do to get the 'perfect' lineup.

Anyway, learn from our mistakes, eh....? :O

  11. Well that's your own fault, Craig fecked off somewhere last time and I had to sleep in my car:'(

I remembered the other night the one thing about the Fudge flat that actually change my life forever. It was the night of my 21st birthday, well pished, slept upstairs and woke in the morning with this massive lump at the top of my arse. Turned out to be an abscess roughly the size of a grapefruit which had to be cut away and scoped out and....well, plenty of you know the story after THAT!

  12. 200 on Ebay don't sound too bad - does that include all the stands and cymbals aswell? Bare in mind the shipping. Dunno about anyone else but I struggle to put my kit into my Clio, to get that shipped from somewhere would cost a fucking mint. You might just be as well going down to R&B or Bruce Millers and getting a cheaper starter kit from them.
