  1. Exactly, people with poor education are fucking gross and diseased
  2. Just got my copy of Alessi's Bedroom Bound EP after losing my last one. It came in a hand stitched bag with a handwritten thank you note. It makes the whole CD buying experience a lot nice when the artist puts in the effort.
  3. I'm mostly amazed at the Daily Mail actually taking a surprisingly Liberal and intelligent viewpoint on the matter.
  4. As was I, would have liked to see them promoted. I'm just glad Ayr's managed to stay in the Second Division, it was looking pretty ropey at one point, particularly with our near complete inability to win a fucking home game.
  5. The show they try it on was before they had any kind of fame so I think it's been lost, not sure if they got through. There's a brilliant resource for anyone interested on Main Page - Pilkipedia, they have pretty much every episode of Gervais XFM show from 2001 onwards (with the music generally edited out for legal purposes). The three years of recording comes from around the time The Office was coming out on BBC and before Karl Pilkington was generally heard of through the Podcasts and was just their orange-headed producer who they regularly have a pop at, despite being on air. One of the best moments is when they find out the game he's allegedly been working on for months is is an idea ripped off from Simon Mayo's show. 'Your taking the piss out of me, your taking the piss out of Graham, and you're taking the piss out of London. Tune in next week if Karl can get his act together. The disheartened Karl just sighs and plays a record.
  6. I enjoyed that pavements song at the top more than I've enjoyed anything by a local act for a good while. Good job.
  7. I understand boycotting Israeli produce, but a band is the creative work of an individual, and I assume you have no idea of their personal political stand-point. Would you feel comfortable having your music boycotted in Iraq and a thread about your music being used as a forum to display news links to atrocities at the hands of the British? As well-meaning as I assume your intentions are, you can't boycott art in the same way as you can a product as you are boycotting human beings, with opinions and feelings and you have no idea where they stand on the issue. It's not the same as a Nestle bar or a pair of Gap jeans.
  8. Shit, they do the best pizza's ever. They have an amazing one where they use Chilli Con-Carne instead of tomato sauce, it's genius.
  9. I certainly remember Mixtwich and Gash. I was never big into Whitmore (the single isn't my copy!), quite liked 4ft Fingers at the time though. I'm glad to hear all these bands are still on the go though, I thought they'd all been wiped out! Yeh, wasn't totally sure about that one! Rocket From The Crypt are an awesome and pretty seminal Punk band, not totally sure if the rest of them are really viewed in the same light!
  10. I actually think I have that Whitmore single kicking about somewhere! Whatever happened to 4ft Fingers aswell? Infact what happened to the thousands of regular touring pop-punk and ska bands in the UK!
  11. Tuesday is definitelly my favourite night, it's pretty much the only nightclub in Aberdeen you'll hear stuff like Dylan and Al Wilson. In the last few months I've also heard some old Manics, Belle and Sebastian and Rilo Kiley, which makes up for any musical misdemeanours for me. As a whole, it's not the best club in the world, but it's a pretty standard small, busy Indie club. You know what you're going to get, and it's cheap. Can't really complain that much...
  12. You're on the Dog on Wheels artwork AND you had soup with Isobel Campbell? My life is rubbish.....
  13. I'm there all the time, and I've still not ended up in any B&S artwork, I feel robbed! I've been in the cafe from the Dear, Catastrophe Waitress cover quite a lot, but I'm still to see Stuart Murdoch eating spaghetti.
  14. Possibly the most insane and gaffe-prone broadcaster of all time? She's so ridiculous that if someone showed it to me, I'd assume it was some kind of genius Chris Morris wind-up. Is anyone else aware of her utterly remarkable work? Her fiancee was murdered and she has since adopted a state of permanent outrage at every single crime. Her programme is a magnet for ridiculous but hilarious gaffess. This might be the funniest news blunder I have ever seen. YouTube - CNN- Nancy Grace blooper She's such a nut, even the backstage staff have such contempt for her, that they deliberately sabotage her show.
  15. I travel between Glasgow and Aberdeen every couple of weeks and normally manage to get the Saver Return thing for 20 pounds, but if for some reason it's not available you end up having to pay like 50 pounds, and they give you no reason why it's not available, even if you book well in advance. I'd always assumed it was something to do with the train's being busy so they sold at full price, but the time's I've paid the full amount the trains have been dead.
  16. Has The Mae-Shi and Johnny Foreigner gig at Snafu been cancelled? It's listed on The Mae-Shi myspace for May the 8th and I thought I read a thread about it on here, but according to the calendar on here it's Soft Toy Emergency and The Acute?
  17. This is probably your best post. Seriously though, I don't know what part of my post your referring to. I assume not the bit about Snafu and Kef playing electro/DnB etc as that's pretty much fact. Just to clarify the last bit, I didn't actually mean Aberdeen was in anyway like London or NY (I'm not that mental), I mean't that people have slightly too high expectations of the city I think. We have had bands up here I never would have imagined when I first started going to gigs and people still complain as if they lived in a huge city. I don't understand how you can spend so much time being at pains to say how shit and backward Aberdeen is, and then be surprised that there isn't a massively diverse music scene. I've talked to people from down South who are surprised there's electricity in Aberdeen, let alone a club that was voted Scotland's best, and at least 4-5 decent venues.
  18. There's plenty of places that play music/feature bands that don't fall into those genre's in Aberdeen. Kef did it for years, Snafu has regular nights of electronic based DJ's and bands, I walked past The Tunnels the other day on a weekend night and they were putting on an evening of traditional African Drumming! I don't know what you're looking for or where you're looking for it? Also, where do you think you are? This isn't London or New York, it's an oil city in the North-East of Scotland! Of course the primary interest is going to be in genre's like Pop, Indie and Metal. Considering it's a provincial British city which the majority of people in the UK know little to nothing about, we do OK. Infact I'd say the worst thing about Aberdeen at the moment is people trying to act like it's Camden or Manhattan, there's a bit of a faux-cosmopolitan thing emerging.
  19. The reason I assume big bands just tend to do Glasgow and Edinburgh is that Scotland is simply that they generally don't have the time/funds/backing to play more than a couple of gigs in Scotland and they're obviously going to go for the two biggest cities. It could be much worse, we could live on the Western Isles or something. At least it's only like 2 hours on a train to Glasgow.
  20. The built-in effects are great in general, the reverb is fine, but the delays are very much just a simple delayed reptition of the notes as opposed to a pedal like the Boss DD6 that gives more sweeping 'passages' of delay that I'd like. Also, external effects pedals would let me use more than one at a time, whilst with the built in processor I can only have one MFX, one Reverb and one Chorus at a time.
  21. It's the Juno-D, it's their kind of entry-level one but one a full-scale keyboard as opposed to the MicroKorg or the Micron, which is why I got it. I'd quite like to get a decent delay/echo/reverb on the string sounds. There is a built in delay but it's not as good as the other ones.
  22. I can hear what I thought was someone on my roof, but judging by the fact there's lightning aswell it would suggest it's incredibly loud thunder.
  23. Thanks for the advice! I'm going to have a scan around for a good second-hand multi-fx pedal. Yeh, it will give me something to occupy my feet with! I've already got the D-Beam for mental onstage hand gesturing.
