  1. There's been at least one.

Fantastic clean sound' date=' everyone pricked their ears up when the guitarist fired it up.

The distorted sound was awful, I suspect it was user error though.[/quote']

That's weird - I would have called it the other way round.

The clean sound isn't bad, but it isn't amazing either. Compared to a Fender or Vox it's not as good. It's a very "clean" clean if that makes sense.

I should be getting a loan of a 4x12" (or possibly 2) so that'll make the biggest difference.

  2. it was set up for metal, I'll agree. The thing I noticed about the ENGL is that it has an incredibly responsive EQ - especially compared to a Marshall.

Here's some more clips I found.

    Screamer Heavy

And someone doing a Steve Vai song with a Thunder.

    For the Love of God

Their mid gain tones aren't excellent, but are usable I find. I ended up picking up the Thunder over a TSL60.

I actually have an Orange OR80 which I'm getting fixed up at the moment - can't wait to see what that sounds like!

We're playing the Moorings this Saturday, and I'm bringing the amp up. Not sure if there's ever been an ENGL in Aberdeen before.

  3. TSLs are pretty good at low volumes, and open up even more at high volumes.

The DSL50/100 have a good rep - you should try them out.

But, you'll be happy with one of those.

As a second reccomendation, check out an Engl Thunder or Screamer. I have the Thunder 50 head - it rocks the big one. it's 3 channels, the screamer is 4 with a solo boost.

    Pretty similar pricing.

Laney VH or GH 100 heads have a good rep.

  4. This Saturday at The Moorings, deadenstereo will be playing with Saz (female fronted metal from Dundee) and Souldrive (heavy driving rock band from Glasgow - sound a bit like QOTSA or Fu Manchu), all hosted by the AUBL

This will be our last gig in Aberdeen, which we shall be heading along to after watching the football at Pittodrie - we're having a band day out. Give us a shout if you want to come along.

    Keep on Trucking!

  5. Don't worry about it - we've got indie up to our aresholes in the central belt. Reading the reviews in the Metro or Jockrock makes me wanna become Craig Cuntkicker, go get that pink reversed headstock tele I had, buy a huge fucking stack, and actually get round to forming Sluts on Junk - the greatest siamese twin metal band in the universe.

  6. I have a Line 6 delay modeller on route from the States.

3 savable presets - each with their own footswitch, and a 4th footswitch for tap tempo.

You can choose from a bunch of different delay types, including a reverse one (reverse delays rock my world!) and it also has a loop sampler thing on it.

Those are really handy actually. You just play the chords for one of your songs, sample it, loop it and then you can make up your lead lines over the top. No need to get your pal to come and play the chords over and over!

I saw J Mascis doing an acoustic set in the Belle Angele in the Edinbronx and he had one. He'd record while he was playing, and then stamp on a big muff or something and let rip with these huge sounding solos off of his acoustic. I was very impressed with the osund.

  7. I have a Tokai Love Rock from Japan (called the LS85Q - i.e the expensive one (not that I actually paid for. Crime pays)) and a Yamaha SG

The Tokai is significantly nicer, but the Yamaha is a matt black sg so looks cool as fuck.

    I think I'll keep both.

  8. I'd put "The Hogg" from deadenstereo up there for this one. Admittedly we haven't been up to the 'deen for a while, and last time we duid he'd only just joined us, but the boy works through his mental difficulties to drop out some immense beats - especially with music so depressingly bland as ours!

I'd also like to take this time to promote our gig in a couple of weeks - at the Moorings on November 27th, a Saturday - an AUBL gig with a band called Saz and another band whose name escapes me at the moment.

I'd also like to announce the immenent demise of deadenstereo
