  1. Though saying that, I was playing a strat through a big AVT at Drakes, had the gain at 2, channel vol about 6 and the master at 9 and it could feel it feeding back. My SG doesn't do that.

Probably a combination of sheer volume + distance from amp (about 3 feet) and single coils.

Didn't sound too bad though ;) - Hendrix style feedback baby.

  2. Plus, as for it being nothing new musically, we do have other more complex tracks, but due to monetary pressures can't record them all. So we had to pick our most immediate tracks to record as they are "demo" recordings. Just the way it goes.

We're playing Drakes a week on Wednesday (see my signature) if you fancy watching a whole set.

The other bands we're playing with are damn good as well

  3. I had the DSL201, worked fine for me. Occasionally blew a fuse but i did run it pretty hard.

Sold it to my flatmate and about two years (from original purpose) it crapped out on him and he had to have the whole thing re-soldered, for 30. I've heard about this happenning quite a lot on these amps, often sooner than two years. But it didn't cause me any problems regularly gigging with it.

Dunno what you want to take from that but...

  4. Yeah, getting better valves does make a difference.

I run those Sveltanas in my Marshall, previously having the Ruby Tubes and they are better.

However you can get them cheaper from:

    www.watfordvalves.com

They have almost every type of valve you could imagine and long test reports telling you the differences between them all.

I've bought valves from them a few times and they deliver quickly and the valves are always working fine, not broken or anything.

Here's an example of the prices:

Sveltana EL34 (dual or quad matched) 10.64 each (you have to add VAT to that so probably about 12 I think). That's way cheaper than the prices quoted above. They also have lots special offers and have a different type of Sveltana called the EL34R for 8.51 each.

    There you go.

If your amp doesn't sound better when it's cranked there's something wrong with it.

One - it's a valve amp => getting the power tubes working will make it sound better. This is fact.

Two - The speakers - When they're moving around more (at a higher volume) they begin to interact with the amp tone and colour the sound slightly, normally in a good way. Maybe they're broke.

Keep it up loud (like above 4 if it's a 50W or 6 if 100W) and then re-EQ it as it's different from your bedroom volume level EQ.

Plus on an a whole rock'n'roll attitude thing, work with me here!
